Jed Steer saves a penalty as well!

Fair do's, far from perfect in terms of a performance but at least it showed some potential with the chances created, the effort, the play and the fact went 90 minutes without taking a half off.

Tight Man of the Match shout, Steer, Samba or Onomah for me.

Jed Steer was brilliant and a good job for Villa he was.

Very impressed with Onomah.. O'Hare looks a player in the making too. Think Bree is ready too if Huttons form dips.. Bit disappointed with wide players Adomah and Green.. Would play Onomah on Saturday at Cardiff. In for Bacuna otherwise same team

O'Hare showing Grealish how it's supposed to be done, with hard work and running. Hope he gets more game time, he's raw talent at the moment but for a debut he didn't embarrass himself. Bruce called it a makeshift back 4, I call it a disaster waiting to happen. If we have no left back cover and have to use a midfield player in that position, why the hell are we selling Amavi? Samba used as a striker at the weekend, Thor used as left back tonight. Should we expect a season full of everybody played out of position? I hope not.

Some positives - Steer and Onomah look good. O'Hare is quality and a natural footballer, the type of player we have lacked for many years. On the negatives, my concerns continue on our ability to control midfield throughout a game and, more importantly, SB's ability to resolve the problem. We have the players to do the job but sometimes I just do not understand the system nor the tactics. SB is obsessed with using wide players who do not contribute in midfield ( not very good with crosses either ). Playing wide is fine but, after all, the goals are in the middle of the pitch Mr Bruce !

Onomah was MOM for me, he looks a quality player in the making. Well done to Steer as well, couple of good saves. O'Hare showed some good touches, ran out of steam 2nd half. I'm usually a big fan of Green but he was poor tonight, Hourihane was just awful, the Colchester mids just kept running past him. Samba was terrible 1st half but I actually thought he was decent in the 2nd, made some important clearances late on. Hope I never see Bjarni at left back again, looked uncomfortable all night and used his right peg every time he touched the ball. Just glad to get this game out of the way, I was worried it could have been another Luton and there are some just waiting for any opportunity to stick the boot into Bruce.

Still find it difficult to understand why Nathan Baker was pushed out of our club to make room for Samba..

FFP and the boy wanted to be a starter DJ. It wasn't the acquisition of Samba that forced him out, it was JT.

Like O Hare a lot. Not so Green who gets on ball a lot. Many like his attitude and intent to get forward - problem is he is mostly ineffective, fails to deliver.

Nice to see some of the youngsters bloodied in. Conditions were woeful, so never going to be pretty. Good win.

Will be miffed if Onomah and O'hare are not regular starters, even in those conditions looked a far better option,
