Those Stoke stats clearly can't be right? Will try and find another source.

thought we'd lose to today to be fair. Nice passing football but ... and how many seasons have we said this (?) ... no end ball. But as said, I expected Stoke to be too physical for our young team but that didn't prove the case.
The Fear
Why do you not think the Stoke stats are right? From what I heard they had a lot less possession and didn't have a shot on target
zigthevilla
looks right to me, seen them differ from 60% to 64% possession for us. Neither team pulled a proper save from the keeper in 90 mins, that is a bit scary!
The Fear
I scanned the Beeb text commentary for 5 seconds and found proof they had at least 1 shot on target hence my assumption it was one of those days for the stato's lol
mike_field
Stoke's stats are out in that there were two yellow cards for Shotton that made it an automatic red. There was one on target attempt zig, rememer Brad punched it out. Overall I was pleasantly surprised, as I thought Stoke would bully our youngsters all over the park. Weimann would have been a better partnership for Tekkers, as Gabby has definately gone.

To me we are improving at the back, but it still isn't clicking properly up front or we're still not taking our chances, or creating clear enough chances. We've a good defensive bedrock now for the most part, now we have to get the mix right up front. Good point though given most expected a loss in reality, I'd have more than taken a point before the game and for a change got my prediction spot on in the pre match interviews lol
mike_field
Was the possession more 67% today? Because we had around that for most of the day and I don't think it once dropped below 65% for us (I think as I was checking every 5 minutes or so) and I also saw that Stoke had 1 shot but not on target (but again I was only checking every now and then)
Avfc94 we do
And yet another game we can't score,
andy3221
Played them off the park for most of the game. Got scrappt when rHolman and Gabbywent off. Bent gave us nothing. Should have had a penalty for the challenge on Lowton in the box.
Villa_Grizzly
Take away Tekkers and we couldn't score in a brothel.....
Pride of Lions
Stoke had a few decents periods so Id imagine 60-65% possession for us is about right... Im going for us to beat Liverpool next week they will come out and try and play us which should lead to a few chances and not the bus parking we witnessed today...Its a pity Suarez wasnt banned for our game because we would defo win that game if he was missing...
CDX_EIRE
Fair result, kick on. Baker was simply outstanding today. MotM for me by a ways.
JWiLs2315
I thought we played really well. This back four look really solid considering injuries, experience and age. Last year we would of lost that game.
PiperUK
Its a back 3/5 isnt it? because if Herd is playing DM he drops incredibly deep and Lichaj/Lowton are providing width... Clarke looks like he is a sweeper/covering CB...
CDX_EIRE
Agree with CDX, that formation today was designed to battle it out with Stoke and not to take the game to them in an attacking sense. Baker will play for England one day, no doubt in my mind about that. But thought Westwood shaved MOM today. Total energy and good distribution. Yes we held them well but that was the intent. Hope the Wigans of this world will find us with a more attacking formation.
Gordonsleftboot
Talking of Wigan - now its a must win game. Need to try and find at least a point from the other games before it. The corner recedes ever more behind us but fyi, we cannot play 4-4-2 without wide players eg Gabby (who went off) or Weimann...or was it still supposed to be 3-5-2 at that stage (as the commentary had it from the off....). Apart from Baker, Eric played really well today aside a couple of idiotic touches.
malacaxeta
Agree Gordon Westwood is a class act, had all the ball but just couldn't break through. At least we are hard to beat now, next step is beating others.
AdzVilla11
Stats about right except I definitely remember two Stoke shots. Both second half. One went for a throw, so maybe BBC decided you couldn't count that. Bit lacklustre after the substitutions. Looked 90% OK. Improving bit by bit. KTF
chocolate teapot
Did somebody say Bent played...don't tell 444, or i'll have to tell him off...;-)
koolbill
Its 5 at the back, not 4. We are unbeaten in 4 and have conceded 1 goal in 4 games. We need to revert back to inswinging set plays, we score against Reading from an inswinging corner, we looked dangerous all game from inswinging set plays. We then insist on reverting to outswinging set plays.....why? We were so unlucky not to win today, we had enought clear chances to win it - I am surprised they are as high in the table. Very poor Stoke team.
KSarge1
What's going on with Ireland?? Can anyone shed any light?? Surely he's our most creative player?? Although I haven't seen how he played today.
gdav
Lets be honest, Ireland's only scored once in 70 games or something like that, when he and Bent came on, Villa receded, can't see either of them being a VP in a year or two's time. Lambert's doing a good job, steady as she goes, but I'm very happy to see this young side doing well, couple of January signings, stay up and some decent summer signings and the future could be quite bright, so hope that Wiemen pushes on, think that he could turn out to be a jem of a player.
PhilK
Villa Babes 0-0 Stoke RFC. Says it all really. A better point than you think. Well done to our young defenders, Vlaar injured yet only one goal conceded in three games without him. Malacaxeta is right, Hard to see anything coming our trip to Chelsea, Wigan is a must win, but I think we can get something from Tottenham and Liverpoo, although it's hard to see where the goals are coming from. Can't see anything coming from our trip to Chelsea, but remember last season? Must at least try to win three of these games, but 5-7 points from the next 4 games not unrealistic. imo.
Madirish
Sorry, repeating myself, copied and pasted but forgot to cut.
Madirish
Bullied Stoke all game, and they didn't like the taste of their own medicine. We also played some good football, the work rate was outstanding and the movement of the ball was also great. we went immediately flat with the double substitution. I think we should carry on with the 3-5-2 formation but replace Gabby with Bent as there were a few occasions when the ball went into the box and no one was attacking it. Bent would have.
BKKVILLA
Lol koolbill. Believe you're right in saying that the "not so mighty Benched one" did make a trip onto the hallowed turf other than to warm up at halftime. Not sure if he touched the ball more than twice though. Really looking forward to the Jan transfer window now. PL has proved that he's making us hard to beat and most of his purchases have been a success. Randy must back him now.
Villan444
absolutely 444. If Randy gives pl the funds pl will deliver the quality needed to fly up the table. Could be exciting times again. over to you Randy.
king villa
Lambert did say there was more money available last summer if he'd wanted it, so there must be funds. Also, some big wages are bound to be leaving in the summer (including Dunne who is at the end of his contract) and maybe money from Bent sale?! They do need to make sure all the money from any sales go to Lambert for sure.
The Fear
Would be happier with that point if it had been at stokes ground, position we are in we need to win a few home games, the only stat that matters to me is where are we come end of season. Do not think we could have expected much more effort than we got from them in this game, delighted to see us trying to pass our way around them, even if we did not have the player to open them up at the back. ps The Fear lets hope Hutton & Warnock find new homes as well.
