Honestly, I think it's time to forget about merit. Gonna have to get the big names in and make sure they perform because we're cutting off our nose despite our face right now. Bent, N'Zogbia, Given, Benteke & Albrighton all gotta start for the foreseeable.

You try to be positive, but it just comes back and kicks you in guts!!!!!!
Pride of Lions
we were 8th after 8 this time last season. Gutted, we have no leaders/experience, you can't bring through this many kids and champ quality players all at the same time without those two ingredients to help them. Gulp.
The Fear
Fair argument schoolboy but Lambert will go back on what he's said to all the players and change his ethos by doing that. It's a start on the road to having Eck back and defending all game. The change from the horrendousness last season will take time to get out of them. Didn't see the game but we were in it till the end and away from home etc. Radio said we had good spells. Thank McGrath that Bent played eh?? Could've lost if he hadn't, oh wait a minute...
Villan444
True Fear but if you look at the last games of last season and go back, it's probably very similar to our form then.
Villan444
We lack real quality in Midfield imo, Im sure Lambert will get us winning sooner or later, but Randy will need to dip his hands in his pockets in January if he wants a slice of that 70% increase in TV revenue me thinks!
CLIVETHEVILLAN
Another frustrating day its all about chance creation and taking those chances... Defensively we are ok for the most part, fine in possession but its the final ball that kills us.. We have little in the way of creativity I would give Nzog and Albie a start next match and line up straight 442 with Bent n Benteke up top... Im still not going to get carried away we havent been terrible this season and getting negative will help nobody... We havnt been great but we still have more than Wigan, Southampton, Norwich, Reading, QPR and over time I think we will have more than Sunderland and West Ham...
CDX_EIRE
Agree with Villan444. Eck started the season with a team that was starting to find form from Houllier & by Xmas he'd stamped it out of them. Lambert has the same situation except the other way round. He needs at least until January. I'm prepared for more of the same for a while yet.

There's just not enough quality quality or pace in midfield atm, plenty of industry but no ideas. For me N'Zogbia, Al Ahmadi, Ireland Albrighton is a million times better than the one we fielded today. All faith that Lambert will get it right and we'll have a steady season to build from, but we need to get some results or we're gonna be putting a lot of pressure on ourselves.

PL needs to work out what our best 11 is. Its nice everyone getting game time and all but lets not delude ourselves we need points. For me its Guzan, Lichaj, Clark, Vlaar (our best player thus far), Lowton, Ireland, Bannan, el ahmadi (pips it ahead of delph), Zog, Bent, Benteke. Gabby as a sub pretty much every game in the 65th minute. I'm pretty sure that team could have got a point at least today, but i guess we will never know. Bennett is not good enough yet. He will learn his trade and looks like he could be decent but just does not cut it. Should not be starting.
overlooked_villan
Once again a missed chance by Christian makes all the difference. I dont know what to say about that given that Bent did not get a clear chance all game - but perhaps that chance only fell because Fulham were a little disorganised following their goal. Ironically Bent would have probably buried it. As far as Nsomnia goes, I have finally worked out why three opposition players descend on him when he gets the ball going forward - - because he will invariably opt to take them on rather than take them out of the game with a telling pass - he ends up giving them the ball. Was disappointing that Albrighton did not come on instead. I am afraid to say that Bent and Gabby doesnt work, or Lambert has not got it to work yet. Frankly I would consider starting Weimann with Bent rather than Bent with Benteke.
malacaxeta
and - the next game is huge - on all levels.
malacaxeta
I cant believe we start Bent away from home and Benteke at home. Surely that should be the other way around ?
TelfordVilla
Think we're buggered, basically.
BeoVilla
Lets not all panic. Not long got in and surprised to see all the finger biting. In the last two away games we have matched both Spurs and Fulham across the park but have failed to capitalise on the few chances we have created. The link and understanding between midfield and attack is not there yet but it will come. There was nothing in this game and we were equal across the back and the middle against a Fulham side who have a fabulous home record. If Baker had not gone off injured, forcing us to reshuffle we would have had the point we deserve. Disappointing but its a lot more positive and encouraging in terms of where we are heading though it will take time. It will click eventually.
Villa_Grizzly
Some very sensible points made because this team can only get better in terms of understanding, partnerships and confidence in the league. They still haven't clicked, look at the wrong decisions on passes made when people panic...that will come with training and experience. They need more than 8 games in the league to settle. If by the start of December/mid November we don't see some real understanding and consistency then toys and pram, but until then, this was never an overnight project.

I blame Martin O'Neill.
chocolate teapot
why do people want to play albrighton he's absolutely *****e id rather zat knight on the wing than him
avfcwills10
avfcwills LOL i nearly bloodey choked when i imagined what you said play Zat Knight on the wing LOL that fella couldn't head a ball even though he was 20foot tall lol it always used to go behind him weird, anyway mike's right (first time for everything) this is a project its hard to see our club so inconsistent but i have faith in Lambert he is trying to do the right things win matche's thats all we asked for remember last season try and win games!
CLIVETHEVILLAN
In desperate need of a creative midfielder who can thread a few passes to Bent. I do feel by christmas looking at the fixtures we may be hovering around the bottom three. But am miles happier with the football we are playing than last season and on the plus side think Lambert has found a diamond in Lowton. Like Lambert and hope we can pick up a few points to ease the pressure a bit.
