15th, p5, 4pts. Anyone think that's good enough? Albion are kak, should be putting teams like that away. I'm a big gabby fan, but he didn't cause them enough problems today.
onlyteaminthemids
Glad of the point TBH.... But disappointed. Mind you, for all the effort, we didn't deserve to win. Not good enough.
Pride of Lions
Mixed bag today though holman and vlarr were our stand out players while the snake charmer Ahmadi was poor !!!
marshyboy87
Bent to the rescue.....again. WBA are a decent outfit and Steve Clarke a decent coach and manager. Outside of the two Manchester sides, the two big North London clubs and Chelsea few would be overwhelming favourites against The Baggies. The table doesn't lie.
VillaWillRiseAgain
We played some good stuff, Should have scored more, were lucky not to concede more, overall a fair result.
sherlockgt
onlyteaminthemids--- you need to wake up man our team is not good enough and any fans not willing to support Villa unconditionally this year need to leave and support Small Heath/Wolves/WBA etc... We only have one player for the top 6 days worth mentioning... This team is deep in transition and this year is not going to be an easy one... Lambert is still testing things out we still havnt found our best side and we are yet to have a full injury free squad to pick from... Looking at today some of the new players need a couple more games to really bed in... Lowton and Holman are the only two who have fully settled in... In short once we get through this season which will be tough Villa will be in a strong position to rise through the table and reclaim a top 6 spot and beyond...

How can we only have 4 pts when we beat Swansea and drew with N'castle before today?
jonah
Onlyteam - its 5pt from 6 btw. They played deep because of Gabby today which is good for our possession, if Benteke had put away the chance he created on the touchline (or better still, passed it) it may have been a different game with Gabby able to break as they pressed. Still - we remain in transition and have to survive games like next week's. Still believe Baker should start CB. Has he mouthed off in training or something ? Is he training with the badgers on the farm next door ??
malacaxeta
Sorry CDX, but I won't be clearing off to Small Heath just because my views differ to yours. There's a difference between loyalty and blind loyalty. There's an Emporor's New Clothes syndrome going on here - if you're happy with 5 points from 5 games, that's lovely for you. Massive rebuilding task for Lambo and agree it's early days, but we're heading for the Championship at this rate.
onlyteaminthemids
After looking at the list of top EPL scorers -- so far -- can't help but notice that there is no Villa forward among the names (lots of players on three league goals). Bent should be a starter. Agreed, CDX. Saw an article about L'pool that basically said John Henry and many supporters will stick with B. Rodgers even if they finish the season in the bottom-half-of-the-table. Why? Because they know Rodgers is potentially building towards something big at Anfield. Villa are in a similar position. If the fans get Lambert sacked and we later -- say three seasons hence -- see a resurgent L'pool how will everyone feel? Gutted probably. Villa will come good under Lambert. Keep the faith.
VillaWillRiseAgain
West Brom done a lot of time wasting. Half way through 2nd half. If we started with the 3 subs in the starting 11. We would of won. Bennett looks good, Benteke is only young, he will come good, remember his 21 living in a different country. Delph was no way motm!
Blitz
What a great game. Lots if noise; the fans right behind the team. There is no chance that you might think you are watching Barcelona but fantastically exciting. 33 shots; that's one every three minutes! Yes - we need to improve but we will. The Baggies are an established team. Their style is settled. We are a work in progress. You need to wise up if you think we are going to be pushing for anything other than respectability - 14th or better. When you consider the dross we had to put up with these last two seasons this is a breath of fresh air.
chocolate teapot
'Red Nev' (Gary Neville) said before the match that Villa Park was his favourite away ground as a player. Top fella!!! Good endorsement. Hopefully, Villa will be there for another 138 years.
VillaWillRiseAgain
VWRA, we probably will come good under Lambo, and there are signs of progress, but we can't afford to start gelling in March / April, need points on the board ASAP. Going to be a roller coaster season by the look of it. We're capable of getting a win at Spuds, equally capable of getting spanked. Just hope it's the former.
onlyteaminthemids
If we are heading for the Championship where are QPR, Reading, Norwich, Southampton and Wigan heading?
chocolate teapot
Does Red Nev mean he only ever lost one league game here "you'll never win anything with kids..."?
onlyteaminthemids
He said he loved the atmosphere and history.
VillaWillRiseAgain
Fair play to him - has been surprisingly harder to hate than expected since going to Sky - what ever people think of him, does know his footie.
onlyteaminthemids
@Blitz you can not say that as you dont know how the 3 subs would have played f they started i see it as a good tatical change that saved us the match and its now good to know we have people that can come off the bench and change a game another plus is that we never sat back after the equalizer but rather we pushed on and tried to win the game i saw alot of positives in the game but some that do not know alot about football only want to pick up on the bad points i wonder if half these moaners even watch the game or just look at the results and say we were crap clueless i tell ya !
black_villian
onlyteaminthemids - We'll be absolutely fine. The team are just starting to get to know each other. Things are starting to gel. El Ahmadi and Holman look to be excellent aquisitions. There are easily 3 worse teams than us in the league - Norwich, Reading, Wigan, Swansea even...and QPR are a mess. We have team spirit and the fact that the likes of N'Zogbia and Bent can be left on the bench is an encouraging sign. It'll be a rollercoaster, but we'll be fine. The negativity is pathetic mate.
olofthegreat
Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't we fans been complaining that we were always starting with the same players, regardless of their form, and that we should change it around? Lambert is doing just that, and that is why we came away with a point today rather than none. Lambert and half the team are new to each other, and the rest are mostly very young. We need time. Let's not get carried away with either the wins or the losses. We'll get there, if nobody starts panicking.
BobTheBuilder
We were the much better team...playing well just quite poor in the final third. When N'Zogbia, Bent and Bannan came on it was much better, a lot more movement and chances created. On performance we deserved 3 points, in terms of chances a draw was fair.
P.Avfc
Like it or not WBA are a good side, and we more than matched them. I think all the criticism of Benteke is unjustified, he put himself about and tried hard....he'll be good for us. I would start with Benteke, Weiman and Bent....Gabby is the sort of striker who is great as a 'hit them on the break' striker, but pretty ineffective when we're trying to press a game. I keep saying this to all the doom merchants...this is a better side than last seasons already...we won't go down.
MASON_PARKER
Black Villian your right. I sat behind the goal in the North Stand.St holder. We are to slow out the blocks. Them Yamyams had me fuming.
Blitz
I blame the Ref. Villa were just starting to get warmed up. What happened to extra-time?
OnMeHeadFred
no comment from Villa444....interesting
Steve64k
I think we'll be OK. Takes time for midfield in particular to get to know each others games and gel. Where I do disagree is in the dismissive stance taken to rivals. Wigan, Reading play good football. Hopefully Swansea are on a downer but everyone was raving about them all last season and just two weeks ago when they came to Villa Park. Concentrate on ourselves and we should be alright - but it was last season's mentality that we would be ok only because other teams are far qworse. We want to be and will be better than relying on that this season - but all teams deserve respect. Most PL teams are capable of good results and performances on their day. We just need to ensure we have more days than they do.
stennyvilla
Thought we were the better side, certainly had enough chances to win it. We have to be realistic and accept this year we will probably finish between 12th-15th but at least we are fighting for the shirt, having a go, playing some decent football rather than bending over like last season. The back four are still learning to play as a unit and its a big learning curve for the young fullbacks. Lambo still hasnt figured out his best midfield imo but its good that theres competition. Nice to see Zoggy come on and look sharp. Benteke is young and learning we have to accept he will be inconsistent. As for DB9, today showed exactly what hes about - clinical when the ball drops to him.
Lion Heart
Steve64k...444 is on his pc busily editting the worst bits of Bent to upload hatetube lol...seriously tho...did anyone notice Bent came on and scored a volley through an incredibly tight mass of players! No-one likes a smart arse eh? Except the smart arse. Anyway off home to get under my duvet with VOTH and Bent...P.avfc is most welcome as he's been proper positive today.
koolbill
Humour aside...I was very pleased with all players...Marc showed he can pass and not just whip a cross in blind. Bazza played v well with quality measured passes. Benteke is showing much promise. Gabby was committed but blocked by the parked bus. Defence was mostly good but had some ball watching moments. Despite what some say WBA are a very good side and we should be proud we matched them with a virtual new team of young and EPL-inexperienced players!!!
koolbill
Bennett looks good.
Lock
Fair result today. We are again slow out of the blocks and that needs to be addressed. Benteke had a shocker and we looked more a threat with Bent. Vlaar, Holman and Bennett were pick of the bunch.
holte ender 1969
Onlyteam-- I wasnt trying to pick on you or anything it just seemed very negative... Im not happy with 5 pts from 6 games nobody would be Im just trying to say you will need a whole lot of patience this season and maybe even some blind faith that things will be ok... I understand when things are going bad some of us have a tendency to see the worst I taut we were destined for relegation last year after the wigan draw... However I dont see us facing a relegation battle we might struggle up to Xmas but by the time January rolls around we will start making bigger strides...
CDX_EIRE
Totally agree with CDX & VillaWillRiseAgain, massive rebuilding season but PL will get it right, no doubt. All we need to do as fans is back him and the team 100% and enjoy the ride.
AdzVilla11
It's going to be an up and down type of season whilst the team gels, but I am more than happy to be along for the ride! At least we stand a chance of some ups (like Citeh away) with Lambert in charge. Come on guys, it was utter dross last season with that mug at the helm, let's get behind the team and see what happens! On and by the way malacaxeta surely its: Ron, we betalen te schoppen met beide voeten!
juddy
There were lots of positives from yesterday's game (the battling, Holman's performance, Bent's goal, Gabby geting 90 minutes, Albie back the team etc) but also alot of negatives. The biggest worry for me was the tactical naievity shown again yesterday by PL, who I am starting to think is trying to be too clever for his own good. WBA were under strength at full back yesterday so instead of sticking with the 442 formation that was effective at Citeh PL changed to a narrow diamond and went for lumping it long against one of the biggest centre half pairings in the league?????????? As expected loads of room down the flanks that we didn't exploit (credit to Albie for being disciplined it must ve been torture). No problem for me with Bent starting on the bench but the formation should've been changed before half time and either Weimann or Bent brought on for Benteke far earlier than happened as he looked way off the pace. For the life of me I can't see why Lichaj didn't start.
AVbornandbred
I thought Bennett did a good job and he will be our left back of choice I would assume, so it is not surprising Lichaj didn't start. It was a good game with the lads taking charge of the first half, just wish they could have taken their chances and buried the game then. The Baggies gave us more of a fight in the 2nd half and we let our heads down. But we resurged especially after DB9 put the ball away gawd bless him!
Charizma
Very happy with how the season has started. Results are not the most important thing at this time of the year..
alcoollie
WBA are renowned for playing a 5 man MF so the 442 would have seen us overrun in MF by their very experienced MFs. For that reason I think PL was right and if not for Bentekes profligacy we would have had three extra goals...he's getting in the right position though so Im happy.
koolbill
Results are pretty important!??!?! lol But I think I know what you mean, you feel they are gelling and building? Would still rather a few more points on the table, if only for the confidence of the youngsters. It is the worst start to a PL campaign ever so they do need to gel and click quickly, we've not played the top lot yet.
The Fear
do not think we should underestimate this baggies side would not be supprised if they turned out to be this seasons "Newcastle"I think Bent being sub was a good thing for the whole team they all know now that they will be picked on form not on who you are. Delighted for him that he got a goal hope it improves his confidence as I believe its the key to this player in particular. Holman continues to impress with the amount of effort he puts in.
Merlin128777
Haven't read any of the comments above, but for me I thought it was a decent game and the draw was a fair result imho. Pleased with the atmosphere and it looked from my vantage point in the Holte that the Baggies fans joined in with the Petrov applause. It is pleasing that the oldest player was 28. This augers well for the future. Bennett needs to muscle up at little, but has obviously been tasked with some of the deadball responsibility. He could turn out into the next Leighton Baines. I thought Albrighton was quiet and the substitutions were good ones and well timed. We are in for a few hard weeks and these young players need our support and positivity and I was a little disappointed in the 8000 empty seats.
voiceoftheholte
Thanks for that CDX, good of you to clarify and perhaps was a bit raw in my response. I'm seriously worried about the points on the board, but is it better to watch than last year's rubbish? You bet!
