UTV!!!
VillaWillRiseAgain
Saints are a decent outfit. No shame in losing to them. Villa are probably -- more or less -- on the same level as Saints and Swansea.
VillaWillRiseAgain
dreadful half time substitution lost us that game
fulford
Didn't see the match but Lambo will make mistakes, fulford. Remember it took Fergie years and at least one terrible run until he turned Man Utd into a decent side(s). Lambert is the right man for the job.
VillaWillRiseAgain
Ireland may have been injured. Nothing would surprise me. He picks up injuries very often. I can't see that Lambert would have changed it otherwise.
AMS78
Ireland must have been injured even the commentators were saying his influence was growing...
CDX_EIRE
Lambert out. We're certain for relegation! :P
revolutionatlast
I actually thought it was one of Ireland's worst performances. Just didn't seem to click for me so I welcomed the sub, but it just didn't work.
mike_field
Hopefully, the fans will keep their nerve. This is a disappointment but the club is moving in the right direction. There might be new faces in January and short of a sheikh or oligarch coming in -- a terrible thought -- this is reality for the time being.
VillaWillRiseAgain
Absolutely dreadful. I can only assume that they were playing to instructions. If so those instructions have to change. 80% of the time when Guzan or a defender had the ball it was kick it as far as he could up the pitch. Completely aimless. What's the point of having a midfield if the ball consistently sails over their heads? Why the change from last Saturday when we played some decent football? This time it was all kick and hope. Come on Mr Lambert. Norwich didn't play like this this last season. We didn't play like it last week. If we play some football then we have a chance. If not then we will be turned over week after week.

On a side note the ref was very poor. Vlaar's booking came from a dive by the Southampton player as did the penalty. HOWEVER, these mistakes had no effect on the result. That was down to us, pure and simple. I'm so mad I can hardly type this!

chocolate teapot
westwood was absolutely awful!!!
avfcwills10
Ha ha ha, revolution.
VillaWillRiseAgain
I'm not worried. We are a better side already than last season, and despite this result we will be okay. It'll be up and down this year.
MASON_PARKER
Lambert interviewed on Sky saying losing Ireland at H/T was a blow.
AMS78
There is some terrific footage of Fergie losing his rag and reminding a Sky Sports reporter that Man Utd once went twelve games (or something) without a win. The reporter then tells Fergie to mind his language because 'children are watching'. If you see it you might die laughing.
VillaWillRiseAgain
Reminder today that were in the *****e and this will be a long old season. Starting 11 is just not strong enough and we will need to fight hard to get our 40 points
Tylervilla2012
Villawillriseagain, I like your positivity but it's not acceptable to lose 4-1 to anytime never mind Southampton...I don't know where this team is yet, first we are good, next it's like this.
P.Avfc
Now convinced that Baker should start CB. I find it hard to understand why he is not even on the bench (not injured afaik). Guzan not at fault for a single goal which is unusual in 1-4 game - he did trip their guy though, as you would expect a professional to consider doing in that scenario. Saw it on Fox HD not 175Kb so take my word for it :) And he almost saved it.
malacaxeta
one more thing - what on earth was Gabby's sub role supposed to be ? I wasnt expecting that sub unless you took Benteke off which I didnt think would happen
malacaxeta
as chocolate said, dreadful today, but I think the midfield just aren't premiership standard and there isn't one of the 4 midfielders who would get into a prem team - not strong enough, not big enough, not hungry enough, tackling and passing poor, no creativity or urgency when they do get it, and no vision I think we'll stay up, and it's a lot better than last season but he needs to buy a midfield in January!
griffgriff
I don't think Swansea were that good a yardstick as they got stuffed at home by Everton 3-0! So what does that say about us? A real rollercoaster, but this has ruined my weekend!!!!!!!
Pride of Lions
P.Avfc -- nobody knows where the team are, they are blowing hot and cold each week. The club however is moving in the right direction. Lambert inherited a bunch of average and/or inexperienced players. He's bringing in his own players (Vlaar, Benteke etc) and trying to get the younger, mainly Brit/Irish lads playing. The newboys are in a new country, culture and league. The young homegrown lads are still learning. Lambert is still finding his feet at a club where the expectation is higher than Norwich. It will take time. Lambo might get his tactics wrong sometimes -- on a weekly basis, perhaps -- but the overall strategy and plan is -- probably -- sound. Keep the faith. yes, we want to see Villa winning every game but it isn't going to happen soon. The last thing Lambert (or Lerner) needs is the fans on their backs. a bit of positivity and we might see new faces in Jan. Again, Southhampton are a quality side who had some unfortunate opening fixtures. 4-1 isn't good though, agreed.
VillaWillRiseAgain
Ireland was poor, we needed a stronger player to replace him. Today was a game to soon for Westwood. Mistakes will be made, take away the 2nd half performance, we looked okay. I hope West Brom ain't a game to soon, I'm sitting right next to the away fans. They cheered at there full time because we lost lol. Massive game next Sunday, why No Nzog/Weimann!! Lucky Guzan got a yellow card.
Blitz
Ireland has broken his arm apparently !
MASON_PARKER
People must have been watching a different game to me...I thought Ireland looked our best player in the first half. When we lost him the connection between midfield and attack went completely hence why we just played hoofball to Benteke and Bent. I'm giving the squad time to prove themselves, they are young and hungry.
Greenslade92
Very poor second half, Gaston Ramirez had far too much time and ran the fsme omce they scored but i feel that the lads heads dropped after they equalised. Benteke played a wonderful ball through to Bent at one nil that he couldnt finish on his left and then he smashed a header just wide from a corner that left the keeper helpless... If either of those chances hit the net its a totally different game. But the approach play was useless in the second half, all hoofs for Benteke and him and Bent were too close to each other. But Benteke looks like hes got quite a bit in his locker and will be a real player once he settles. Lichaj was terrible. Ireland provided a link to the strikers that was sorely missed second half. All in all a day to forget but its a young team and confidence will play a big part all season - not just going into games bit during them too.
wizard21
And Southampton can be proud, they looked very good once they got the equaliser and a bit of momentum. They have a real player in Ramirez.
wizard21
Didn't think Ireland was great and he wasn't great against Swansea either but he does work hard. Anyone know the story with delph and herd? They both work hard and like a tackle, would have been ideal replacements at half time.
Lion Heart
We are a work in progress, chill everybody
kenner
Agreed kenner, we threw it away yes but it's a team full of young lads, lessons will be learned now we move on and belt Brom next week.
AdzVilla11
Stayed up again not so pleased this week. Can't fault the effort in the first half but execution wasn't there. Seemed strange to change it at half time but seems Ireland was injured so can't help that. Not sure Westwood is good enough ATM so would've preferred Delph. That's the poorest I've seen vlaar and lowton but it's a wip so going to have ups and downs. Bennett didn't look great but was in a no win situation really and gabby was played out of position, again. Can still see the fight in the players even though the quality wasn't there
Aussie Villain
Agree with Greenslade92, Ireland was the only one holding the middle together and I thought we played fairly well in the first half. Losing him didn't help, I suspect Southampton had a hairdryering in the changing rooms at half time as well cos they looked a lot hungrier in the second half. Oh well. No need to panic, we'll get beaten some games... UTV
ExpatVillaShirt
I blame Bent for not scoring another 4 goals :o
GibboVilla
ha gibbo! has 444 nicked the keyboard off you? ;-)
koolbill
I 100% support Lambert, I hope we can man up away from home though. We will. Easy to forget this turbulence is normal with a new manager, system and side.
thekentvillan
Now seen the TV replay and I agree that Guzan did trip the Southampton player. My apologies to all - including the ref.
chocolate teapot
Felt if Bent had scored from his other chance in the first half game would have been over. But full marks to Southampton plugged away and Lambert was immense. Vlar was not his usual confident self and Bannan disappeared for most of the game.El & Holman looked over run in the second half . Still early days the learning curb continues
