Fair result, MUCH better than our 'performance' v Everton. Gives them something to build on. Ben Arfa's goal was a beauty, but we gave him way too much space. Few decent chances went begging for both sides as well. All in all, I'd have taken that before the game.

Yep, if someone said to me 1-1 before the match, I'd of snatched his hand off. Even though we were 1-0 up, I'm happy with the draw. Not happy with all the yellow cards and fouls.

Just spoke to a few other Villa fans, they was p"ssed of about the result. I told them to find a new club to support. What a great team performance. My heart was in my mouth the hole 2nd half, what a great point. Onwards and upwards. Swansea, Southampton and West brom,, maybe 9points? 10points in 5games. Yess please!! Lowton and Holman, My 2 motm.

Fantastic result in my view. Villa dominated almost the entire game in terms of chances. They were very composed and organized throughout the whole match especially in defense. The cards and fouls are a result of an inexperienced squad. They will dissipate as the season goes on. Gabby and N'Zog looked very good after coming on. Gabby very composed and N'Zog looked deadly. All in all a great game just a bit unlucky in regards to that Ben Arfa strike. Enjoyed it though.

Good result! Villa aren't burdened by high expectations. Yet. The club are arguably in a better position than Liverpool or Spurs who have fans with unrealistic short term hopes. What a difference eight days makes.

Ron Vlaar, Vlaar. He's the new Paul McGrath. He's stronger than Stella Artois. Ron Vlaar, Vlaar.

Proud of Villa today for sure. A difficult place to go, especially after the two defeats...but a great performance, couldn't have asked for much more than that. Looks like a few beers tonight for me...with a smile for once !

So much better, could of easily took all 3 points...Shocked Newcastle I reckon, they probably believed all the clueless pundits constant bashing of us. Does anyone just think that Everton was just a poor game? Is that not an option? We did okay against West Ham, we were the better team so I think we are too quick to look into things. I'm pretty sure we will be okay from relegation if we can match the toon.

Lol, 78!!! If you made that chant up then congrats. Quite amusing. Do hope that 'Concrete' Ron Vlaar also becomes known as the 'Beater'.

I did. He's got that holte legend look about him. Always bothered me we never gave Mellberg a proper song. More important than a point today is the fact that the team will start to believe that they can compete against over-hyped teams like Newcastle. Everton last week had me thinking we were definitely going down, no matter how early on in the season it is. Onwards and upwards now. UTV.

Wish Ireland had buried his chance, could have set his confidence up for the season.

Great game to watch, and much much better from Villa. Ben Arfa's goal was a cracker. Fair play to Pardew too for his after match comments, he was spot on. 2 weeks now for PL and the new guys to work on things, can't wait for Swansea!

I knew we'd get something out of today. I just knew it (see previous posts). A massive two fingers up to EVERYONE who predicted we'd get tonked! Have not get so optimistic about the future of AVFC for quite some time. Bright Future anyone?

WHAT THE HELL DID DARREN BENT EAT FOR BREAKFAST!! by far the best all around performance he has put in since coming to the villa. yes, he didnt score but he won everything in the air and his link up play was so much better! if he plays like that every game and benteke comes in and works just as hard then i can see us being much better! also ireland was much better in terms of getting forward and supporting. great overall team performance!! apart from maybe chelsea away i cant think of a better performance for years!! brilliant UTV

Agree Wills, just wish again he wouldn't take the touch and would just welly it though lol Isn't it nice to actually be a bit gutted we didn't take all 3 points, as we more than deserved and I can't fault Pardew for his comments either.

yeah i think he should probably have scored atleast one goal, cant complain about not giving him chances today! really can not believe that was the same team who played against everton! Also holman doesnt look to be the most technically gifted footballer in the world but my god does he make up for it with hard work! If we performed like that every week we would certainly be top ten! especially when you consider we have dunne bennett benteke westwood herd and delph to come back into the squad!
