Certainly a positive start, and it gives us another opportunity to develop our youngsters. Heskey having a good game is all well and good, and I'm pleased for him on a personal level. But I sincerely hope that his appearances will be very limited this season. I understand that Delfouneso had a decent game. This kid isn't just the future, he's the present. He needs to be given plenty of games to continue his development, and hopefully next summer we won't be demanding that millions are spent on the off-chance that we will find a '20 goal a season' striker.

The first half was terrible, the second half was excellent, we clapped them off at the end, booed them off at half-time....being a villa fan is a roller coaster ride, we all know that, but we need to turn up and support them 18753 crowd was very poor!

holte ender i think bannan did very well, certaintly capable of chipping in with some good performances this year and knocking on the door to the first team.

Lets not get carried away here. Until Emile came on we had been very poor, definitely second best, and were on our way out of the cup. Fine comeback, inspired by Emile, and we started to look a reasonable team, as we knocked the ball about with confidence. Long way to go yet, Houllier definitely has his work cut out, but this was a game we didn't want to lose. And we didn't.

Lets be realistic here. For 55 minutes we were dreadful. Shocking. Even worse than under O'Leary. Heskey changed the game, and for the last 30 minutes we played some great stuff. I personally thought Steve Sidwell was so slow, caught in possession so many times and although NRC improved he wasn't much better. IMO that is a major problem area, central midfield. Ireland can only play in a three, so we need either Sidwell or NRC to complement Petrov until Delph (or Gardner) is fit. Lichaj was ok, Clark good, Del boy bright and after a very poor 1st half playing off the front man wee Barry had a much better 2nd half playing wide. Good result, but don't get carried away just yet.

Attendance wise a vast majority of the Carling matches had lower than average gates so not that much of a problem... great 1st result Mr H.

Eddy1 it's not just the carling cup attendances what are poor at the moment, The league attendances are poor also.

And they are probably going to get a lot worse too. We've got some very exciting home games on the horizon, games where you would expect to see Villa Park full to the brim. Be interesting to see the sort of attendances we attract over the winter months.
