It was a young team with a mixture of players like davies who havn't had much football + Heskey was playing who really needs to be flogged on a free transfer if possible. Downing was useless and he really doesnt do it for me at all, I no its early but if i was madonald and he gets money to spend, id look to a creative winger to go on the opposite side to albrighon.

Piper obviously we got young, But im classing him as if he was playing in his advanced position meaning downing and albrighton both on the wings. So still i say id like to someone other than downing. Reo is crap, Agreed hog was out of position but didnt thinr reo did that bad, he did alot right but alot wrong especially towards the end of the match. And Heskey as always poor, need him to go

The Fear - i couldn't agree more. I just don't understand why players need a rest after 1 game!! It baffles me!!

give the youngsters a break!..games played in europe are about results. it was a good result...especially compared to last year!....so back off and get behind the team!

Why are Villa fans always seeing the negative side and complaining about our own players? I don't rate all of Villa's players but i will always be behind them until the day they leave. We were away, we drew, we got an away goal, and this was with pretty much our reserve team - this is GOOD!!! UTV!!!

Looks a pretty good result seeing as I don't recognise half the names on that team sheet. You should win the return led pretty comfortably - do you think Ireland will make his debut at the weekend or in the return leg of this tie? (Was he even registered in time?)

with 8 guys starting who aren't what you would call 'regulars' we did okay, got an away goal and hung in there.

Right my fellow villans come on how mant times have we faded towards the end of season cos we were knackered, like when we threw away an 8 point lead over arsenal for fourth! our players cant play 60/70 games a season WE HAVE TO blood our youngsters otherwise we wouldnt be seeing our own giggs oh i mean albrighton rip defences apart also bannon's tech ability!

Reo-Coker is crap
How has Reo-Coker got the 2nd highest % for MOTM he was dire tonight. Downing needs to step up. Alby and Bannan where class tonight. Bad game, good result. Davies had a bad game. Oh and Kev didnt "Rest" players he said he wants everyones to be given a chance.

Need a new keeper soon, Guzan never fills me with confidence, Friedel getting old...Maybe we could get the last few years out of Given after Friedel retires (which I would assume he wont be good enough after this season) and with *Siegist? or whatever his name is the young swiss keeper we have does anyone know anything on him

GOod result from the youngsters albrighton impressed and I thought lichai did well as well. The marking was crap in 1st half but got better in the second was gutted for young wieman

Decent result. Some good football played at times. Stronger team next week to clinch the tie. Worst thing for me - How boring does Iain Dowie sound as a pundit/commentator? I turned the sound off as I couldn't stand listening to him anymore!!

Interesting how everyone sees a different game. Personally I thought Beye had one of his best games but was still average, the whole defence looked shaky but then how many times has it played together as a unit? NRC clearly needs match time as he faded badly. I know Heskey gets alot of unfair stick but I thought he was poor tonight and his hold up play was awful. Overall I think KMac can feel a bit let down by the older players. It was a big step up for bannan and I thought he looked good, Albrighton gets better every game and the only way we'll ever know if Hogg or Lichaj can make it is to give them a go. Given injuries and suspensions I think KMac picked a decent side and the result means we should batter them in the return leg - we're all going on a European tour......

Why are people allowed to slag off RCIC Mike? It's a very valid point he makes in his username. Do their posts not get deleted or amended because you agree with them? One shouldn't base their editorial duties on their own opinionated views surely??

Its reading posts like this that reminds me how little a lot of Villa fans know about football... Heskey, Reo_coker, Albrighton Bannan - all had good games. Warnock and Davies were the only ones that had an out and out mare. Last year our first team lost to this lot, so to come away with essentially a win (on away goals) is brilliant.
