Also on Villa's bench, Lichaj, Beye, Downing (45), Reo-Coker (45).

Also on Benfica bench, Ramires, Menezes, Weldon, Kardex, Gaitain, Roderick.

Carlos Cuellar's substitution was precautionary, he felt a twinge in his hamstring but it's not believed that he's torn it.

Bit of a spanking, in fact we were outclassed if truth be told. John Carew apart, we looked way out of our depth. Still, we are the Villa, we shall regroup, recharge, and be back with a vengeance. Wont we?

I do not think we were outclassed. It could be 4-4 at the end. Carew (cleared of the line), Albrighton (inches wide of the post) and Sidwell (high into the skies), all of them have spurned golden chances.
