Well that was different. Pre season friendly pace, and the fun from our previous games with crossing etc.

However, well done Delfouneso for his first (of many I hope) Premiership goals. A nice 3 points in our Top 6 fight, so should be a reasonably happy day for all.

Nice to see a win but sick of those annoying Pompey Drums and Bells .. Had to turn the volume down after a while .. wont miss them next year .. pity cos Pompey fans are usually good people .(just annoying)
Doug4ever
A lot of decent passing but too close for comfort. Moved above LIverpool and that is the least we should settle for this season.
JimmyG
Pre season friendly pace ? ridiculous comment .Our crossing was poor all day One decent cross and Gabby missed a sitter. But such was our dominance a goal was surely going to come.
sirdennis
Villa's inability to kill teams off almost realised by our lack of goal scoring power....some new strikers in the close season please. Heskey out (anywhere please!), Carew on the bench, the Fonz needs more time to mature, well done for the winner though!
juddy
lol Doug4ever, have to agree, the bell especially kills me! Think it gets on the nerves of a lot of pompey fans as well to be fair!

Thought the game was sort of entertaining but it was a bizarre one, certainly at times looked like a pre-season type thing, the space Carew had for his goal was astonishing! The points are all that matters though, keeps those below us a bit of a distance and sends Liverpool out of European contention for now!
The Fear
Might put a bet on Liverpool to win then we will be guaranteed to stay above them .
Doug4ever
By the way can anyone explain to me how we never had a pen in the first half when Gabby was wrestled to the ground.Has he upset referees or something ?
sirdennis
GAbby has had affairs with all the ref's wives, true story... hence no penalty decisions!
krisvilla
Great end result... keeps us in the hunt. I thought Warnock was particularly poor today however... some bloody awful passes! Great goal by Carew, shame about the misses :s Nice to see young Nathan score too, that'll relieve a bit of pressure to get his 1st premier league goal.
thorpyuk
thorpyuk Me and my son were counting Warnocks shocking passes we counted 7 then gave up .. Thats at least 7 moves that were halted by his terrible passing which is becoming a regular part of his game lately .
Doug4ever
got to say it was an entertaining game - really enjoyed it!
merlin
Running down the wing, see his dreadlocks swing, viva Delfouneso. Great fighting spirit again, have some faith 4th is still on!
pauled177
Well alright - 6 points out of 4th. Man city at Arsenal and Spurs at United - if we win at hull. That puts us 3 points out and 1 behind City. 4th is still possible...i can still dream...
los_angeles_villan
I had pork for lunch
Trekker
we get the win yet some of the villa fans still want to moan.
leeb25
Yes, because we could have had more wins, i think that would have been good
ant1ant1
We huffed and puffed for about 80 mins. Besides Carew's goal which if he had of missed would have been unacceptable considering the time and space he had, but besides that Carew and Gabby never looked like scoring to me even with all the chances they had. I feared the worst when I saw Heskey as I can see why he plays but will not get you a goal when we need it. But when the Fonz came on he showed his talent as something we have been crying out for for years a natural goal poacher. I feel like I did after Gabby's goal against everton. Hopefully now MON sticks with him for the Hull Game. I can see why MON does not want to presser him but he should get his go.
Tallaght Villan
*pressure him
Tallaght Villan
First of many Prem goals for the Fonz, we hope. Nice lad too. Great to get above liverpool, now to stay there
Madirish
Mon uses squad rotation, subs bench changed a bit well done MON.
ShaneBlack
LA Villan big assumption that Spurs and City will lose next weekend
keefdayid
Persoanlly I am delighted with the win, it cetainly showed that we can keep going till the end (or at least till we get the lead). Mon has learnt how to make match winning substitutions - terrific. Well done Fonz, soon you will be a real proper player.
RiF
Hey Keefdayid, LA Villan is right, we have a midweek match which if we win we will go 1 point behind Man City and 3 points behind your shower of sh' it
RiF
im very happy you guys won best of wishes for the rest of season please finish ahead of l'pool
RagingSpur
as much as it pains me to say it spurs deserve 4th this year. but i think what LA Villian is saying is its been a strange old year and anything can happen. we will see.
1982benny
Keefdayid - no I am not assuming anything. If we win at hull, we are 1 behind you. You both have tough games this weekend. If i'm being optimistic, I'll need to hope you 2 lose and we also win on Sunday. My point is that as much of a longshot as it is, we are not out of it yet and I will battle on till the end. You may be on a high right now after 2 wins over Arsenal and Chelsea (and yes fully deserved, congrats) however, you lot could lose at United, get a bad result against City and your season's over as well. Gloat all you want now, but it's not over and in a weeks time I'll head over to Vital Spurs and it will be "HARRY OUT! SACK THE BOARD"...
los_angeles_villan
Benny that's right results are not easy to predict but I think we can get a result against united who are not on form at the moment and I also think that City will do well against Arse who again are not on form. Unfortunately for Villa that will make it very very difficult to get to 4th, not impossible but unlikely.
keefdayid
LAVillan I'm not gloating just pointing out how I see it, the only time I have had a go on VV is when you lost to Chelsea and when I have had a go at P Villa who is a nasty little *****e. Yes you could get above us but we would have a game in hand and I think that then either us or City will still get 4th and you could finish 5th.
keefdayid
I have Villa finishing with 70 pts. Spurs with 70 pts. and Man City with 68 pts. That's being optimistic. Spurs still go through on goal differential.
los_angeles_villan
We deserve 4th as much as everyone alse. I think spurs will get it doe, They have been great in there last 2 games, If we beat Hull,Birmingham and spurs/city lose, we will be 2points infront of city/ level with spurs But they have a game in hand, them 2 draw against each other, we beat city 4th is ours. What a longshot!
Blitz
Liverpool have 3 easy (if any game is easy) games and Chelsea at home and they have come back to some better form recently but I still think they will end up in 7th possibly missing out on Europe completely, thus making it harder for them to sign the really big names that they obviously need.
keefdayid
I said to the Fear yesterday, i'd be delighted with 5th and just about happy with 6th........ 4th very unlikely as 13 draws this season so far has once again let us down. Home form has been diabolical and goes back to the first day of the season. Getting 4 wins? Doubtful after the way we played against a patched up team yesterday. I think its afir tos ay any position above Liverpool would be great for us
reza
whooops with the typo's !
reza
Totally agree with reza, been saying the same about too many draws again.Cant see us beating city on the pompey display and the bluezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, soz, nodded off, game is a derby game, anything can happen.Fingers crossed though.UTV
