Will no doubt go down as a classic FA Cup tie, but boy did we make it hard for ourselves. We just never really got going and Reading are a far better team than I expected. thank God Carew was with us today!

100% motm for carew then ? phew , what a game ! I'm not sure i can find the right words for that game . Just so delighted . Stoke or Fulham will do me ! . UTV .

We (fans and players) really have to start believing that teams who have knocked out RedScouse, Burnley and the Baggies are no mugs. When we do that, we'll reduce the risk of heart attacks ... As for 100% MOtM for JC, maybe we should give him 50%, since he didn't really turn up first half :o)

Got out of jail today. The goal straight after half time was key. If it carried on into the 2nd half at 2-0 the frustration would have grown... But fair play. Superb 2nd half.

Reading were pathetic, and deserved everything they got. Being the 'better' team is meaningless if you don't have any bottle. Any Villan proud of that performance deserves O'Neill as their manager. It's this small-minded mentality that so many of our fans and manager share that means we will never achieve anything. Until there is a radical change in this area, we will continue to be meaningless mediocrities.

Of course you don't jaspervilla, because you're happy with medicority. I'm sure that you don't think we are a mediocre side, presumably because you are comparing us to the darkest days of Deadly Doug, but the fact is that we are mediocre, and should we win the FA Cup - which I hope for, even if I think it unlikely - we will still be mediocre. A number of mediocre sides have won the FA Cup - which is part of the magic of the cup of course, and that's wonderful. But they didn't suddenly stop being mediocre.

Lol - it was a touch tongue in cheek, Jasper - although it must frustrate the hell of MoN (as it does me) that JC can play like he did in the first half, and be so much better in the 2nd. As for Albie, if you think Reading were pathetic you need to take more water with it. Pretty disrespectful and clearly untrue.

cheer up AllBranista......more roughage in your diet will help with what ails you.

it was a cup game albarnista, we won, that is all that counts in cup games. We are in the semi's, we've been to a final already, we can get to another and we still can get top four/five. I agree the performance first half was dire but as said, the lads did themselves proud the second half and had much making up to do. They did it.

How tiresome it must be to be so negative about life when in all honesty life's not half bad. Year on year improvement is all you can ask for IMO and year on year improvement is what we quite clearly have. Still in with a shout of 4th place, One cup final appearance already accounted for, a semi (& 2nd day out at Wembley) on its way is, I would suggest, slightly better than mediocre.

The Fear, I am happy that we still have a chance of winning the FA Cup, and should we win I'll be delighted, even if it will likely prolong the agony O'Neill inflicts upon me. But is the best that we can really hope for a lucky cup win? Portsmouth won the thing a couple of years ago, and well done to them because they're a small club who were punching weel above their weight. But winning the cup didn't make them a decent team. I want Villa to be good, but we will never be under O'Neill. And yes, the players fought hard in the second half, because as much as Reading gift-wrapped it for us, we still had to accept the gift. But we won that game in spite of O'Neill, not because of him.

I can't believe the difference in Carew when he actually runs insstead of walking everywhere, the first half so poor, but they came out trying and the difference it made was huge, I thought Milner was exceptional second half, first half nobody turned up, must have been a hell of a shock to be a Reading fan after the 3rd goal went in, they won't be used to our complete changes in form from one half to the next, some were in tears after 57 mins
ant1ant1
Have to disagree with anyone who said carew was poor 1st half - he held the ball up well, won plenty of headers, got into good positions, and even had the ball in the net (maybe he should give heskey some tips!). He was the best of a bad bunch 1st half. If he doesn't start our next league game it'll be a disgrace
thorpyuk
Congrats must go to Reading for making it such a cracker of a game , I thought they would play well and they did . Special mention to the Villa Fans still cheering when we were 2 goals down .

Albanista, you say mediocre, Pompey won and they we're in our league position, they lost there manager ( who must of been mediocre ) now look were they are, so if O'Neill left, chances are we'll fall back down the league, coz lets be honest, theres no one better to replace him, stop whinging, I'm bored of it, and if you beleive we're mediocre and won't go anywere under O'Neill then get on with it, coz it ain't going to change any time soon

Albarnista shut up where would we be without n'neil you fool are you a blues fan in disguise??, i agree that he made a bad mistake playin heskey and carew together i though delfouneso should have started with carew today. As for the game every player was very very poor first half it was a discrace basically, we were fantastic second half and derserved the win although i thought reading was very good and fair play to them.

winning well, winning ugly, common thing? Winning. That is all that matters in the cup, actually in the league as well. The top teams often grind out a result Albarnista, don't think we were lucky today. We were awful first half, MON and the players would admit that, but the second half we whipped them. Not sure it was luck, that was spirit and effort.

What a comeback, i thought we were dead and buried at half time. ant1 i think you're right about carew actually running for once. The timing and power he generated for the header was class and the key to his form might be as simple as that. RUN! Maybe it's just me but i thought heskey and carew linked quite well at times in the 2nd half.

We have certainly got a grit and determination about us, We can beat Chelski a bit of revenge for 2000. Concentrate on the league for a few weeks now. UTV

Yep, he looks scary when he runs full pelt, but he hardly ever does it, and also the crosses look much better when someone is running onto them, rather than either no one in the box or who is in the box just standing still

A win is a win, glad that the goal scoring Carew turned up. Must drive MON that we only turn up for one half per game.

We should be happy to be back at Wembley, and that the curse of the Gippo's P*** is still alive and well in Small Heath. "WE'RE THE FAMOUS ASTON VILLA AND WE'RE OFF TO WEMBE-LEE" (Again). Got to be worth smiling at.

everyone who wants one should be in a position to get a ticket for the semi final i guess...is the allocation more than the League Cup Final?
