To be fair those stats look horrifically wrong to me. I don't believe for a second we matched possession from what I saw but it's a decent point.

The defence and Richard Dunne deserve their wages this week. Midfield wasn't up to much other than helping the defence and short of a few chances for Milly our attack was basically irrelevant.

Why Heskey got on the pitch nobody knows. Why we didn't bolster midfield under after they scored nobody knows.

Thank God we have a decent defence this season is all I can say. Sadly Barry will leave tonight wondering how they didn't obliterate us, but confident in his decision to go.

The bright point of the night, Hokey Cokey got back on the pitch. Dark point of the night (even ignoring Heskey) Hokey was playing on the right wing.

If it wasn't so sad, I'd be laughing.

Agree with you totally . When we went through 10 mins of total pressure in the 2nd half i was screaming(at home) for Mon to take Carew off and put a midfielder on . So what does he do Waits till they score and brings on Heskey .I swear that man gets clumsier every time i see him . I think we missed a trick here by not making the correct subs when we needed them . Dunne and Collins were great and are the main improvement from last season . I thought Barry had a good game (unfortunately) overall it was a great game of football.

"Barry will leave wondering how they didn't obliterate us?" I'm sorry but they didn't obliterate us because we matched them as the stats prove. Yes our defence played well. That's why you have defenders. It's there job. Gabby gets better by the game and I thought even Heskey had a few decent touches and helped back in defence when needed. That little flick to Milner in the box right near the end was brilliant. I really enjoyed the game and feel happy with the point.

Sorry Adam you lost me on the mention of Heskey and I already said the stats aren't right. 6-3 to them would've been fair.

Came on here yesterday winding you up,but you didnt bite too hard,a draw was about right, was hoping youd take the game to us and we"ed hit you on the counter but it was the other way round, both teams will have to improve a bit to break the top 4,you in midfield us at the back. The annoying thing from my point of view is Dunny was the best centrehalf on the pitch, far better than lescott. And finally after watching city against Arsenal i thought the abuse Adebayor got was bad but nothing compared to Barrys after 12 years and over 400 games he deserved better than that, our fans clapped dunnys goal that abuse was way over the top

Totally agree the booing was way over the top and pointless, fair enough to boo once but for the whole 90 mins? As for the game I reckon it was a fair result, we played well as a unit but didnt show much creative spark. Hats off the Dunne, Collins and Gabby.... Young was terrible, he really needs to sort his act out and go back to basics....Get your heels on the tounchline....take it past the defender....get your cross in. No fannying around

Abuse of Barry is pathetic and does us no good at all. Thought as well as our defence Petrov played superbly and was a midfield dynamo. Sidwell on the other hand made 3 big mistakes and nearly undid all the good work of the defenders behind him. Carew not in it much, but no creativity to help him. Given Delph was one of the few players to perform well at Ewood, can't see why he should lose out. In the long run blooding the skills of him Albrighton and Bannon has got to a better way forward than to rely on good solid players who unfortunately won't get us to the next level. Our youngsters might or might not but will not be given the experience for us to find out. Their record for the reserves is hugely impressive and for those that say it is a big step up - yes it is, but that is how you progress if they are good enough they will deliver. They need the chance for us and MON to find out though. Sidwell and Gabby are never going to develop the close control that the real top players who are comfy on the ball need. MON has many great qualities, but in terms of use of subs and in terms of bringing youngsters into the team he is too little too late and too never.

Strangely enough Villa v Man City mate. It'd be pretty stupid of me to watch another game and then assume ours went the same way.

What a fantastic game. Loved every minute of it. And the atmosphere was actually quite good, best so far this season. Barry Boo-ing apart. Up the Villa.

1-1 was a fair result in the end. We looked the better team in the first half and it was good entertaining end-to-end stuff. I'd guess those possesion stats are maybe half-time stats?? In the 2nd half we didn't see enough of the ball and when Ireland came on he was tearing us apart. I have to agree that I'm totally at a loss at the Heskey substitution. Carew was running out of steam, but sub him for Hokey and pack out the midfield. I think Dunne taught Adebayor about 'tactful' goal celebrations too!!

Yes the Heskey sub was weird. Especially as Young was so obviously in pain every time he kicked the ball. Would have made more sense to bring on a midfielder at that point. Dunne was immense. So was Collins.

I thought this was our best performance of the season, though a draw was a fair result. Fortunately, Hughes matched O'Neill's ineptitude when bringing on Santa Cruz at the same time as Heskey. Until Santa Cruz came on, there was only one team who was going to win the game after City equalised. I would say that, were we to play as well as we did tonight in every game for the rest of the season, we might sneak into the top 6. But that's not going to happen, so as it is, I think we'll be well off the top 6 pace, and will be battling with Everton and Sunderland for 7th-9th places.

As a City fan, even I don't agree that 6-3 to us would have been an appropriate result. Cracking game, honours even and it was your workrate and commitment cancelling out our flair and passing. Can't see the Villa finishing any lower than 6th and with things so wide open you might even finish 4th - as long as we're third! Just one thing - WHY OH WHY did it have to be Dunney? Good luck and see you at ours.
fifthcolumnblue
Dunne AND Collins were excellent tonight..MCFC have some serious attacking potential which the above mentioned dealt with superbly. Back 4 looked like they have spent more than 3/4 games together - cant fault commitment. Midfield - would like to see abit more creativity than hitting width, but MON knows....Up front - Carew/Heskey with Gabby....maybe we need a different trick up our sleeve? Anyway, good solid performance - deffo Top six. SOTC

revdpete, I'd suggest that drawing at home with Man City is about as good as it gets for us, and judging by the reaction of the post match interviews, I think the manager and players feel the same way. We played well today, and as you suggest, thank goodness we did otherwise we'd have certainly lost, but we look a long way off Spurs' standard, never mind the bigger clubs, given the way we are set up to play, the players we have, and most importantly the manager we have. The optimist shall always be disappointed.

edd_d_duck, solely on the basis of tonight's game you might perhaps construct a case for us finishing in the top 6. But on the basis of our game with Blackburn, we are cast iron certainties for relegation. The truth lies somewhere in between. Top half I'm sure, and competing with Everton and Sunderland, but no more.

AVFC4ME, Come on mate, us City fans cheered Dunney throughout the game, even when he scored. Adebayor has had 18 months of rubbish from the Gunners "supporters". Arsenal fans can give it but can't take it, do you not agree? Your lot need to look at their selves too after a full ninety minutes of booing a guy that's played 400+ games for them. Anyway, terrific entertaining game tonight and I hope the return will be a real nerve jangler because both teams are pushing for the champs league.good luck for the rest of the season.

Just watched it at 3am in hong kong - here on business. Thought it was a decent game, but one or two of our players just don't seem to be pulling their weight - Carew looked half interested most of the time...also Sidwell - I really want him to push on a play like he did at Reading but he seems to be lacking in confidence...oh well, the jet lag confusion was worth it i suppose...

I have to say, Mike, that I'm really perplexed by your report. We more than equalled them in the first half, and Brad wasn't seriously troubled until nearly half time. In the second half, it was their flair against our commitment. If you believe that we can build a squad of flair players to equal the "top four plus ManC", on our relative budgets, I think you're mistaken. We therefore have to match the top teams on hard work and commitment, which we did. 6-3? Your view of the game, and of your own team, is harsher than any of the neutrals and most of the Man City supporters.

thecamelsfoot - I don't disagree on both points. Agree that Adebayor may have had a bug to bear although I still don't think that condones his celebration. However, my point was not meant a stab at him but rather a comment that I thought Dunne showed a lot of respect for his previous employers - something that I hope Barry would have done too if the opportunity had arisen. With regards to the booing of Barry - I thought it was a disgrace.

camelsfoot, the big difference between you cheering Dunne and sections of Villa fans jeering Barry is in the fact that Richard Dunne did not want to particularly leave Citeeh and therefore deserves respect. Whereas, despite Barry saying that he would only leave to go to a club playing Chumps league and then joining Citeeh purely for the money deserves the contempt that was evident tonight. At half time I was watching the highlights of the 1st half when the picture panned in to show Barry taking a corner in front of the Holte End and it showed a guy with the most fitting of gestures towards Barry...he was waving what appeared to be wads of cash. If you Citeeh fans think that any of the players that you have signed in the last 12 months have gone there for any other reason than for the massive wages that they have negotiated, you are more deluded than the players that have gone to Eastlands thinking that there will be Chumps league football there next season. R.I.P football as we once knew and loved it!!

Totally disagree too. I thought it was a thrilling game. MC had the most flair obviously, when you spend 240M you would expect flair, but we were certainly not agricultural. There was a lot of nice football played tonight!! Still not sure why Heskey came on, would have loved to see Carew off (may have made a lot of the long balls but distribution was Sh***) and Delph on in his place and Albrighton on in place of Young when he got injured.

Villa 'fans' on here trying to justify the booing of Barry get over yourselves. It's petty minded and you make the club look bad. End of. Man City fans showed class last night towards Dunney - that's how you should treat an ex-servant of the club. Barry will play Champions League football with ManCity and he'll be vindicated for moving.

Bored about the Barry talk now, he's gone and doesn't play for the Villa now. I thought it was a solid performance and the best we've played at home since our comeback against Arsenal last year. The only downside is the lack of goal scoring chances. Carew doesn't look interested, Heskey - well nothing to say that hasn't already been said and Young was injured for 60 minutes so why continue playing him. Even if he wants to carry on surely any manager should be looking to put fresh legs on. All in all though a fair result for both teams in a game more about 2 players returning to old clubs.

agree revdpete best game of the season for atmosphere and also effort. We aren't perfect but when they put in a battling performance I struggle to complain. I do agree as above that Heskey is a mystery, when Ash got injured he could have gone 451 with Delph on, hey ho!

One of the big differences between Barry and Dunne is that the former is a top four player, whilst the latter isn't. That's why Barry is at Man City and Dunne is with us. One of the reasons City fans can afford to be magnaminous towards Dunne is that they have a better quality of player now. The fundamental reason why a section of Villa fans hate Barry is that he is shown that Man City are now above Man City in the pecking order. Fans who genuinely hate Gareth Barry because he is a 'disgraceful human being' don't have a clue, because everyone who knows him knows that he's one of the good guys. Most fans are making Barry a scapegoat for our own (relative) lack of ambition, and mismanagement.

Dont think Barry went to City for the Cash..... I think its similar to Benzema Leaving Lyon for Madrid. Things had gone stale.. MON pushed him to be a great Midfielder but he had achieved that and That was as much as felt he could with us at Villa park.. he wasnt being pushed he was being selected without any pressure (we all know MON doesnt rotate)...At city players like Ireland who are on top form couldnt start the game due to the quality in their squad. And we all come on here including me and complain about MON doing things wrong and it angers us. Barry lived with the drama of Villa for years.. And anyway you look at it its easy to get excited about City and there chances unlike Villa in the summer after the second half of last year...So sorry for my rambling and apologies if you disagree with me but it really disappoints me when Barry was booed... Christ sake he saved Us from Relegation how many times?? We Could have easily been BIG club in lower leagues like Leeds,Coventry, Newcastle, Forest etc etc.
