A very good performance today to be honest. Nice to see Gardner back on the pitch and nice to see a player willing to take shots at every opportunity.

Passing was a bit off and we still need to get more consistency in our crosses, but nice to end the season with a win and grab a fair 6th place even though it should've been 4th and then 5th but hey who's counting?

Only annoying bit of the day - final 15 minutes, chances are Newcastle will throw everything at us so we again take a fullback off for Heskey, and then move Milner to right back.

On that score we got lucky today, buggering around with the defence didn't lead to us conceeding but Newcastle came very close to making us pay for that 'tactic'.

Heskey looks low on confidence, that much is obvious but he offered absolutely nothing whilst on the pitch. Gabby's break down the wing and into the box (before Carew went legless and missed the ball), Heskey was lumping round two defenders - where was the movement, where was the step back from the goal to create some space for a shot???

Sorry final game of the season, why not give Delboy another crack? Why not give Albrighton a crack?

We surely do not need to bring on Heskey EVERY single match and move players around to accomodate him do we?

Fair enough if he can find some form, and create a partnership with anybody at the club, we know what Heskey can do. Namely score very few, but create a lot for another.

At the moment he's not scoring, not giving anything, and certainly has no understanding with his fellow strikers. I hope during the summer he forms a partnership with somebody cause the way it's going he'll be playing even if he spends his time on the pitch sitting down on the halfway line.

That said it was nice to see 3 subs again if only for the timewasting benefits. Had Petrov not been limping and Carew not got cramp I doubt we'd have even seen that though.

Will be an interesting summer - Come the opening day of the season we'll know both what kind of campaign we'll have, but more importantly we'll know exactly whether we are treading water or building on the basics we have.

So what you are trying to say then Mike is that we are ****e but that Newcastle were even worse and that MON needs to get his finger out of his rectum if we are to have any impact on the top 6 places next season.

Oi what happened to my paragraphs! JF! lol

No I thought we were alright today, but I just don't understand Heskey. I don't understand messing around with the defence (again) just so he can get on the pitch. If this is going to be a general pattern though and regardless of form or what's happening in the match, Heskey will come on for a defender we are in deep trouble.

As said the summer will be interesting, it'll tell us all we need to know.

I do worry for the summer. Make or break but based on what I've seen I expect it to be break. MON has done reasonably well for us so far but I just can't see him bringing in the new faces required at this stage and if he doesn't it will be an even bigger opportunity missed than in Jan as all our immediate competitors will be doing their utmost to move on, that much is guaranteed.
