It's a shame really, MSK Zilina could've earnt themselves plenty of plaudits from their crisp passing and inventive set pieces tonight. Shame they are a team of individuals who epitomise everything dirty and disgraceful about footballers these days. How they weren't down to 10 men in the first half I'll never know, let alone 8 men by full time. I actually use the word 'men' very loosely here, a bunch of Barton's is more appropriate. Maybe the idiot in the middle does. At least he remembered he was meant to be a referee in the second half.

That said we were awful, and plenty of players again proved why they aren't good enough to wear the shirt, for some, least not in the positions they keep being played in.

The night wasn't all bad, and yes we are still through to the next round but well done Delfouneso. Brilliant full debut, great goal and somebody who we should see plenty more of in the future.

As for the ******* from Zilina, I hope they are proud of themselves tonight, we could've done them 5-2 on another night, but their memorable win will be remembered by the World as the night they hacked, sacked, and attempted to injure every player they came up against.

I hope you are proud. Out of the competition you go.

We may have lost tonight but we should be proud of our players for putting up with such disgraceful treatment without reacting and Man Uing the referee.....then again he booked Osbourne for a fair tackle, suppose we'd have been down to 3 men if anyone had argued.

marlon harewood.....that was quite possibly the worst display in a villa shirt i have ever seen by anyone! after seeing that im gonna dust off my dunlop boots and maybe get a run in the team.i never thought i'd say it but BRING BACK BOSKO BALABAN!!!!!!

Harewood was never going to be any good for Villa so no one to blame there for the money spend other than MON. No good blaming Harewood, we bought an average player and that is what we have. Remember he hasn't been given a game in two months now he is meant to be match fit? When will MON realise that you can't make that many changes to a team. It happens time and time again in cup competitions. Ho hum, through at least but tonight could have sealed us (pretty much) top of the league and that would mean a better draw in the last 32.

Osbourne, Salifou and Harewood were awful. What ***** was zat thinking?! Red faces all round. Another golden opportunity missed. Least we're through.Sort it out MON. Realise when its not working
04/12/2008 22:48:00
You guys paid the price for not starting with your best two players: Agbonlahor and Barry. Harewood should be playing in the Championship. He just isn't the real deal.
04/12/2008 22:56:00
we are through at least! but that was a shocking display. harewood was trying but could not cut the mustard. and Zat what were you doing?

The summing up of this match I am afraid is far wide of the mark. Any neutral would have seen a decent passing opposition who had 50% of the possession against a failing Villa attack who despite some pressure hardly tested the opposition keeper all night. Yes some harsh treatment of Ashley in particular, but not out of the ordinary and it should not deflect from a great underdog performance from the rank bottom one point outsiders of the group who were already basically down and out. If we had shown their commitment and comfort on the ball in the middle we would have won - but you've got to give credit to them as well as criticise some parts of their play.Well done the Fonz. Massive plaudits to Ashley Young for working his socks off again even if not having his best game. Absolute rubbish from too many others. Salifou was magnificent in Prague and totally anonymous tonight as was the rest of the midfield. If we can't try fringe players in a fixture such as this then we never can - so no blame for MON there - but if Ashley can be put through it as a flying wide player, then I am sure Davis and Laursson would have ben happy to and much less in need of a rest. Please stop changing the defence so much, they can privide us with a platform of solidity that we need to ensure games like this don't go pear-shaped, even if some players are not on the best of form. The substitutions for a final onslaught against a crowded penalty area with no space were a waste of time. Gabby is useless without space, great with it. If he gets the ball in the 6 yard box he is too surprised by it to usually even see a chance. The Fonz might have done something, he is instinctive and that was a bad decision to take him off. Barry should have had more influence, but didn't on this occasion. Looks like we will be relying on a lucky draw with potentialy the champions league dropouts or first placed UEFA teams now lying in wait as Ajax should now win to top the group and a draw will see Hamburg stay above us. Even if we win we are unlikely to be other than second now. All is obviously not lost, but we have absolutely no punch up front without Big JC and even then we have no one alongside him likely to get goals. I hate Everton more than anyone else in the Premier - so please take it out on them.

why doesn't o'neill win the match first and they try the fringe players? midfield was shocking tonight

One day we might get it right (BIG SIGH)

Not really many pluses from this shambles. When we had the ball we looked unable to break down a workmanlike, but no better, defense. On the other hand they carved through our midfield like it wasn't there (most times it wasn't!!).The obsvious journeymen have now had there last hurrays for me in a Villa jersey.Knight,Osbourne,Salifou and Harewood simply are not up to standard.Ashley Young may well have worked his socks off but his delivery was very poor as was Milners when he arrived. This was a golden chance to win the group and Mon and these players have blown it.The only crumbs of comfort lay in the performance of Delfouneso and the workrate of L Young playing again out of position.
05/12/2008 00:10:00
Salifou had flu and was apparently desperate to play...shouldn't be too hard him, although if he wasn't ready why did MON play him?
