We will never get a better chance to beat them...frustrating. Davies should've scored, can't believe the ball hit the back of his head! I thought Laursen's header was in too...oh well, a point's ok-ish I suppose.

The stats don't tell all the story, for much of the match we looked like the only side that wanted to win, with Liverpool mainly looking dangerous when we over extended ourselves. Liverpool defended deep and in numbers, even the substitutions by Villa were more aggressive than Liverpools, with us ending up with no full backs on the field. Why does O'Neill not believe in full backs , by the way?
keithlees1978
Although we looked like we wanted to win, we didn't look like we knew how to break down a side that wanted to defend, except at set-pieces.
keithlees1978
On Sky Sports at the end of the match it said lpool had no shots on target...

did gabby play today ?
atkinson villa
Yeah, he did. He was very average. Although I personally think he's not to blame for the lack of chances today - we're missing a Merson creative type in the centre. Ashton would be all well and good, but I think we need someone like Riquelme or Arshavin.
olafthegreat
Do you know what, I count this as a very, very positive result. After leaking goals, we needed above all else not to concede. The fact that they came to defend and hit us on the break speaks volumes about their lack of confidence, but the last thing we needed was to get all gung-ho, extend ourselves too much and fall for the sucker punch. Let's bed our new defence in first - especially in games like this - and then build on a more solid basis. Well done for the point, lads.

Just read the story about Gabby in the NOTW, jes he's some boy! If he was as good at scoring goals as gettin girls pregnant we might have won today!!!!

You believe something the News of the Screws says? Blimey, I thought everyone knew it was a work of fiction.

gabriel agbonlahor was abismal today ! i missed the man city game as was on holiday ,, and went to stoke last week and i think that he really has a lot to work on ! also it looks like he has been hit by the big time charlie bud ! having got 3 DIFFERENT women PREGNANT at the SAME time ! get ashton or owen in and give carew and aggy some competition ,, problem is that both of them know that they are guarenteed a place as they have no serious competition for there places ! come on marty lets get some competition for places going up front ! impressed with petrov today also , and i believe milner should have started, but saying that okey-cokey did well (although looking unfit at times ! ) x

This is positive guys...we absolutely owned them without scoring ourselves. My mate who is a Man U fan was raving about Davies, comparing him to Ferdy and Laursen to Vidic...stating further that Davies must be a future England defender as he's so composed. Brilliant I say!
koolbill
OlaftheGreat - i think davies was pushed in the back, causing him to go under the ball, then for it to come off the back of his head. Liverpool didnt have a shot on target!!! let alone 3!! Clean sheet though...bout time really
NorthcliffeBandit
They came for a point, set their stall out accordingly, frustrated us, and in the end got the result they desired. We lacked creativity to break them down. They tightly marked Ash, and sadly that was it. If Big JC had have put away that first half opportunity, the result would have been so different. They'd have had to come out at us more.

Agree with Bob The Builder, we certainly tightened up defensively, and that has to be a plus point. Going back to our visitors if I may, what a waste of Robbie Keane!
