Vital Villa Interviews 2013 - Perthdave

Vital Villa Interviews 2013 - Perthdave
Perthdave is next for the Vital Villa interview.

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

It was 1977 aged 10 there used to be a bus called 'the villa special' that picked up at the top of our road me and a mate decided to jump on it one Saturday afternoon as a bit of an adventure, I think it was thirty pence for the bus and under 16s got in the Holte for a pound!! These were the days when two ten year olds could do that kind of thing and a villa game inc. transport for 1.60!! ahh the good old days!! Oh god I just realised I turned into an old git! sorry!! I remember walking into the Holte the smell of beer and cigarette smoke, the roar from the crowd as the team came out (you cannot beat the working class supporters of the 70s and 80s villa won 1-0 and I was hooked

2) What is your favourite Villa moment of all time/most treasured memory?

There's been a few, the European cup, league cup wins tranmere and blues 5-1 games! when villa park is rocking it's rocking but it got to be the league winning season of 81 I was lucky enough to go to every home game that year, off the pitch I remember a mid week away game against wolves, there fans were giving it the mickey take villa! villa! villa! chant, we responded with half the claret and blue singing Villaaaaaaa stretched out for like a minute in the middle of this the other half of the army started with the same Villaaaaaaaa line so they were overlapping this lasted the whole game, it was like it was planned absolutely awesome support! anyone who was there will know what I mean, cannot remember the year but was in the 80s was the night the West Midlands police kept all the villa fans in the ground for around half an hour I think it was to give the wolves hooligans time to get in place because when we came out it was like a bad day in Beirut

3) If you could bring back a former Villa player into this team (at his peak) who would it be and why?

Paul McGrath is the obvious choice but I would go for Gordon Cowans in my opinion a player ahead of his time, P McGrath said if he hit a wayward pass Sid would jokingly say 'what the f erm hell was that?' You got to be some player to criticise god jokingly or not! god also said Sid was one of the best players he ever played alongside and if he says that no one can argue!

4) Paul Lambert? Your opinion please?

I like him, he is not scared to drop a 'big name' player if they not performing we had our fair share of managers who were to scared to do this, I also like how he is building a team who work hard for each other the only thing that worries me is they are all kids and we all know you don't win anything with kids right?

5) Best and worst moments of last season?

For me the season started off poor as we expected really new manager new team etc worst was the middle section December/January I feared the worst! Best was the way the team pulled together and turned it round I really believe that was our last season flirting with relegation for a long time or am I just hoping that

6) Some say last season was a success, others not so much. What is your opinion?

I think we were a mess after MON walking out a week before the season and then the next two managers making things worse! we needed a massive overhaul and to do that with very little money while trying to reduce the wage bill has to be classed as a success

7) Your opinion of Randy Lerner and the board?

I think they have made lots of mistakes which we are still paying for, we all knew cuts had to be made I just hope there not making them too fast and too deep, having said that 5 signings already and a manager not afraid to drop someone will give us competition for starting places which we not really had for a while

8) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

Belhanda sounds class and sounds like he wants to come to us I would love to see him down there but hey what do I know? that's why I ain't on the touch line down the villa in a track suit

9) Which player/s should Villa get rid of this summer?

I think everyone's answered this question the same! we all know who they are, I was disappointed with Bannan last season

10) Favourite current player?

I going to go for the old man gabby he played a big part in the end of season upturn, mat lowton deserves some credit too, Benteke would of got it if he came out and said he going no where

11) Who was your first footballing hero and who are your favourite all time player/s?

Gordon Cowans! He used to play with no shin pads and socks rolled down, so when I played kids Sunday football I was exactly the same! He could of got my leg broke!!! but I sure if he saw me play I would have been his hero!!!

12) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?

Premier 6th
FA cup winners
Carling quarters (not winners because we be playing our second string team of kids! average age of 14)
I confident on these predictions! get down the bookies lads

13) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

Question... Will I see the villa play in the champions league in my life time?
Answer... Yes my son, your going to die in 2016 but hey your team do well in the next few seasons
I wish I never asked now

Can we not, just as a one-game experiment, take the seats out the Holte ?
