Vital Villa Interviews 2012: Moocher

Vital Villa Interviews 2012: Moocher
Moocher is next for the Vital Villa interview.

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

First went to watch WBA in 1963 and found football boring. Then in 1967 went to watch the Villa and loved it. Still have a soft spot for WBA but forever a Villa fan!

2) Paul Lambert? Your opinion please?

Paul Lambert is a manager with potential and was probably the best we could have hoped to get. I am excited about him as he has started out well and from what I have heard is a no nonsense manager. Maybe in the Ron Saunders mould?

3) Best and worst moments of last season?

All of last season was bad. I remember Billy McNeil in charge and that was a bad season but at least there were attempts at football. The best of last season was when McLeish was sacked. I wish him all the best in the future but honestly can't see him being successful anywhere.

4) Your opinion of Randy Lerner and the board, can a decent season next season make up for last season?

I think Randy Lerner is still good for the Villa. He was a breath of fresh air after Doug, who in his way was limited but good for the Villa, and still has lots to offer. He was unfortunate with the way MON left and left us in trouble, ( I think that was calculated by MON and is unforgivable) Houllier was not a bad appointment and apart from his health could have worked out. His biggest mistake was in McLeish and I think he has learned from that. I would stick with him for a while yet.

5) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

I think we need a ball winning, tough tackling midfielder first of all and then a central defender with a bit of speed. Don't ask me who because if I knew then I would be the current manager. I do think that Agbonlahor needs to play in the middle as the main man along with Bent though and Weimann as the third striker. MON got the best out of Agbonlahor in that position often as the lone striker.

6) Which player/s should Villa get rid of this summer?

Most the defence but not all at once. We certainly need another central defender, although Clarke could be the answer, and a new full back. As I already said a tough midfielder is essential and the priority.

7) Favourite current player?

Probably Bent cause he scores goals. Shame Petrov has gone, he may not have been everyone's cup of tea but he always gave his best and is Villa through and through.

8) Favourite all time player/s?

Gordon Cowans, Andy Gray, Dalian Atkinson, Chris Nichol and the best of them all Paul McGrath. So many over the years.

9) What do you expect us to do/finish this season assuming a decent transfer window with 25m or so spent?

I expect us to finish 7-8th in league and quarter/semis in both cups. Always optimistic!

10) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

Which was the best Villa team I have seen?
Easy the championship side of 1981.

11) Just to change the theme slightly, a snap shot of you outside of football, answer or ignore at your leisure:
(based on our WHO ARE YOU thread!!!)

a) Which celebrity/s would you most like to meet and why? Ranolph Fiennes.....an absolutely amazing man.

b) Age 60

c) Location: Spain but originally from Brum.

d) Favourite alcoholic drink: Beer

e) Favourite non-alcoholic drink: Tea

f) Favourite Film/s: The Time Machine ( the original), Shawshank Redemption.

g) Favourite TV Show/s: Coronation Street Hehe!

h) Music?: So many to chose from can't say.

i) Best ever moment in your life: When my children were born and the European Cup win.

j) Ambitions: See the Villa successful again and competing at the highest level.

k) Wise words: Make the most of what you have today.

Corrie? LOL... ok, apart from that, great interview. Agree, Clark could be the answer, as could a few of the others coming through, including Nathan Baker
