Vital Villa Interviews 2012: Angus Baskerville

Vital Villa Interviews 2012: Angus Baskerville
Angus Baskerville is next for the Vital Villa interview.

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

In 2009 (age 13) I became a Villa fan when I went to Villa Park for the first time in 2009 19th December against Stoke when we won 1-0 and John Carew was the scorer. My Uncle supported them which also made me a Villa fan.

2) Paul Lambert? Your opinion please?

I think Lambert was a great choice for Villa and is just what we need. He was also the best chance we had seeing that Martinez is linked to quite a lot of manager jobs and Soljier wanted to stay in Norway. Lambert guided Norwich to 12th in the premier league and got them promoted from league 1 to premier league in the space of 2 seasons and I think that`s the sort of manager we need. I don't just not like Alex McLeish because he came from our rivals Birmingham. He also nearly got us relegated and only won 6 out of 38 games last season which I really could picture happening before he came.

3) Best and worst moments of last season?

Last season I really thought we were going to get relegated and I really wanted McLeish to get sacked. I think that we have really to pieces since O`Neill left. I think our best moment was our 3-1 win over Chelsea and Wiemann`s goal against Fulham. I think our worst moment was Dunne`s own goal against QPR or our 2-1 loss against Bolton. This season has been quite a nightmare for us with us only staying up by two points and Darren Bent getting injured and our captain being diagnosed with leukaemia.

4) Your opinion of Randy Lerner and the board, can a decent season next season make up for last season?

Opinion - I think we need a new owner. After Lerner fell to pieces after the appointment of McLeish who he barely could afford to sack. I don't know what it will take to bring the relationship with the fans and the board back either.

Answer - I feel we can only make up for it if we get champions league football otherwise No.

5) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

I think we need a good striker that will play well alongside Bent. I also think we are quite weak in Midfield so we need a new midfielder to replace our captain Stiliyan Petrov and a good attacking midfielder to replace Ashley Young. I think Brett Holman is our replacement for Milner. I also think we need a new right back and another centre half and obviously a new reserved Keeper to replace Guzan.

6) Which player/s should Villa get rid of this summer?

I think we should definitely get rid of Hutton who hasn't really proved what he's worth this season. Stephen Ireland is another player I think we should sell seeing that he is costing us a lot. The final player I think we should sell is Warnock. He has had a few bad moments this season so I think we should sell Ireland, Hutton and Warnock this season and get some new players to replace them along with some more new players to strengthen our squad.

7) Favourite current player?

Darren Bent - Darren Bent did really well this season scoring his 100th league goal against QPR and getting a few assists. He was brilliant for us until he got injured against Wigan but I think if it weren't for him and Shay Given, we would have got relegated.

8) Favourite all time player/s?

My all time favourite player who's ever played for Villa is James Milner. Milner's been my hero ever since I became a Villa fan.

9) What do you expect us to do/finish this season assuming a decent transfer window with 25m or so spent?

Premier league: 4th place
FA cup: Final
Carling cup: Semis

10) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

Question - Best memory about Villa

Answer - Our 1-0 win over Man United on 16th December 2009

11) Just to change the theme slightly, a snap shot of you outside of football, answer or ignore at your leisure:

Sell Ireland because he costs a lot? On that basis we would always sell our most expensive player, whatever he can do. Can't agree with that. Champions League or a new owner? Nothing wrong with some ambition but lets keep our feet on the floor at times too please.

Agree with Gordon on this mate, bit unfair to say if we don't get Champions league then the fans relationship with Lerner will stay ruined...Don't think it is ruined anyway, yeah he made two managerial appointment mistakes but he is human. For example Mike Ashley was one of the most hated men in Newcastle, one of the reasons they went down, they were all over the place but he sorted himself and the club out and now look at them...Lambert gets us playing well and gets a reasonable finish and we will all praise him. Also Gordon is right, if we were to sell players because they cost us a lot then that's a whole lot of ambition thrown out the window...Think Ireland may come good under Lamber personally.

I thought all the answers were good pride, he knows that Warnock and Hutton must go anyway so I like him! Just gotta know how stuff works and to give Lerner a bit of a break because 4th is not possible for 3 - 4 years max.

Must admit, I care not one bit for the Chumps League. The FA Cup however I would walk over hot coals to see us win before I snuff it!

Think the world of Milner too, gutted when he left. And i like the trophy winning Angus, i was proud of my Daughter when she won that at her school! Lerner is still Learning though so i would agree that he needs a break, one bad Manager does not a bad chairman make, ( i don't think GH was a bad manager btw)
