Vital Villa Interviews 2012: col8

Vital Villa Interviews 2012: col8
col8 is next for the Vital Villa interview.

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

1 back of 14 Rodway Street Hockley Birmingham 19. Was a slum just a stones throw from Newtown Row. Those old enough to remember when Summer Lane was the main artery into and out of town will remember the area, real sh*thole but a short walk to Villa Park. Everyone supported Villa…………..

2) Paul Lambert? Your opinion please?

Not my personal choice, I hope he does as well as he did for the Canaries and there`s is no reason he won`t, will the supporters be happy with mid-table after mid-table? I wanted another manager. Slaven Bilic would have been my choice!

3) Best and worst moments of last season?

Worst moment of last season was the appointment of Alex McLeish, 99% of the supporters told the board, Paul Faulkner and Randy Lerner in no uncertain terms how big a mistake they were making. Sadly they and a majority of the press took the easy route and labelled the Villa supporters as "bigots or ignorant" stating time after time that the reason was his "Former Birmingham City Manager" connection. Even Paul Merson (who I now have little respect for) was still giving the trite response to the supporter`s reaction. None of the media had the bollix to stand up and say "I just watched Villa play Bolton and Villa were shocking, boring, clueless, unable to do the basics"

Stan Petrov getting leukaemia was a double edged sword, terrible news for the man and his family, although Villa were absolutely crap the 110% shown to Petrov by the supporters was amazing, it mattered not the club were floundering in the league. I`m much the same way Bolton supporters united behind Muamba Villa and football stood to a man in support of Petrov. Chelsea players wearing No shirts 19 supporting STAN. But above all it highlighted the fact that football is what it is football, give the choice 110% of people would give all to see Stan healthy again.

4) Your opinion of Randy Lerner and the board, can a decent season next season make up for last season?

I still think Randy Lerner is a good, decent Chairman. The fact that he doe`s not seek the limelight like some Chairman endears he to me, previous Chairmen have made a living about talking on TV and doing nothing. I think he has been let down badly in recent years, by former managers who he backed to the hilt and advisers who sadly Ill advised him on managerial appointments.

But a good man.

5) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

We could do worse than Grant Holt, linked recently, could be a good strike force with Bent, but sadly we need players in all areas. Rumours are Hutton will be told to "jog on" well he needs to take a few with him. Lamberts biggest problem is not the front end it`s the defence. We need a central defender who can command the defence, take control and work with the midfield captain to organise set piece defending. Watch Chelsea with Terry and Lampard, 2 banks of players, Terry rear rank, Lampard second rank, before the ball is delivered by the opposition each player knows who he is picking up and sticks to his man like sh*t to a blanket. P.S. We need a reserve keeper.

6) Which player/s should Villa get rid of this summer?

Everyone will opt for Dunny, Collins, Warnock and Hutton but these guys have looked crap this season because they have not had the support of "anyone" tracking back to give them a hand. The number of time you see players at other clubs tracking back to assist the defence…… It never happened, all too often I think players adopted the "the balls passed me so I will wait for the hoof ball"

Before we slate the defence or put all Villa`s ills down to their poor performance we should look at every other department, when we do we will see a crap defence, crap midfield and crapper attack.

7) Favourite current player?

Shay Given, player of the season, that one handed save at The Hawthornes kept Villa in the Premiership. I have no doubt if Given had not been in the form of his life we would be playing Brighton and Leeds this season.

8) Favourite all time player/s?

Charlie Aitkin Legend, never got his face in the paper for kicking in a night club door or drinking himself into debt. A role model for younger players.

9) What do you expect us to do/finish this season assuming a decent transfer window with £25m or so spent?

Premier: 10th season of rebuilding.
FA Cup: Out Early
Carling: Out Early
I think Lambert will go all out to qualify for Europe next season.

10) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

Q. Will Villa win the FA Cup in your lifetime Mr. col8
A. Yes 2015 League and Cup Double.

11) Just to change the theme slightly, a snap shot of you outside of football, answer or ignore at your leisure:
