Vital Villa Interviews 2012: Toddyav

Vital Villa Interviews 2012: Toddyav
Toddyav is next for the Vital Villa interview.

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

My Old Man took me as a 5 year old when Villa were in the Third Division. We didn`t get promoted that year, but went up the year after. I have been hooked ever since

2) Paul Lambert? Your opinion please?

I think he will do OK . He hasn`t got to do much to improve on last season has he ? I like the fact he wants leaders and captains all over the pitch (like Ron Saunders did) and he wants hungry winners wearing the claret & blue shirt. This might mean some fans favourites leaving, but if they are not hungry do we still need them ?

3) Best and worst moments of last season?

The announcement of McLeish being sacked was the best. The worst was the performance or should I say non performance away at Spurs. Hutton and Heskey in midfield, 2-0 down at half time , and the manager sent the same team out to defend in the second half . This was the night I realised that McLeish simply did not know what he was doing, and it was going to be a long painful season.

4) Your opinion of Randy Lerner and the board, can a decent season next season make up for last season?

I have been vey vocal in my criticism of Lerner and in particular Paul Faulkner. They will always be remembered as the people that appointed McLiesh from Blues, in the face of vociferous protests. This showed a complete lack of understanding of the ethos of the club and in particular the mindset of the support. It was a disastrous commercial decision of Gerald Ratner size proportions Having said that I am impressed that they have managed to attract Paul Lambert to the club . I would really welcome a personal statement of intent from Randy Lerner because I`m still struggling to understand his motivation for owning Aston Villa, and I would also like to clearly understand what (if anything) his ambitions for our club are.

5) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

I would like to see Grant Holt follow Lambert to Villa . A Norwich fan at the last game of the season described him as "a beast and an animal " and Lambert has had him playing as his captain so I think he would shake things up for us upfront like Peter Withe did in 1980. We also need two quality full backs, but I don`t know who. Lamberts looking for players with hunger and ability, and at this stage I would settle for any new signings that fit that criteria.

6) Which player/s should Villa get rid of this summer?

Gabbys got to go. He`s a one trick pony that`s lost his trick , he cant live off a late winner against the Blues forever . Hutton , Warnock , Ireland , N`Zogbia Dunne , Delefonso should also be eased out of the door

7) Favourite current player?

Chris Herd and Barry Bannan

8) Favourite all time player/s?

Alex Cropley, John Gidman , Paul McGrath , Martin Laursen

9) What do you expect us to do/finish this season assuming a decent transfer window with 25m or so spent?

Premier 10th
FA Cup: 4th round
Carling: quarter finals

10) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

What your favourite Villa goal of all time ? Alan Evans late winner at St Andrews 1980/81 season

11) Just to change the theme slightly, a snap shot of you outside of football, answer or ignore at your leisure:
(based on our WHO ARE YOU thread!!!)

a) Which celebrity/s would you most like to meet and why? Bob Dylan so he can talk me through some of the brilliant lyrics he`s written

b) Age 45

c) Location: Studley Warwickshire

d) Favourite alcoholic drink: Strongbow in the summer Draught Guinness in the winter

e) Favourite non-alcoholic drink: Water

f) Favourite Film/s: The Sting , Pulp Fiction , Goodfellas , Life of Brian

g) Favourite TV Show/s: Family Guy , Spooks , Simpsons, Phoenix Nights

h) Music?: Bob Dylan , Rolling Stones , The Specials , Sex Pistols , Oasis, John Lennon , Adele

i) Best ever moment in your life: I`m lucky enough to have had many memorable moments , but if I have got to pick a non villa related one it would be horse riding along the beach in Antigua with my kids a few years ago , (a very special moment ) . With Villa it`s the European Cup Final

j) Ambitions: to go and see Villa play at Barcelona in a competitive match

k) Wise words: there are no luggage racks on hearses, so cram as much into your life as you can

That spurs game... *shudders* Just a terrible low. My dad sat there just shaking his head repeatedly saying how embarrassed he was! Some great music there as well Toddy... Stones are my all time favourites, just adore their music!
