Vital Villa Interviews 2012: SIMONBIGRON

Vital Villa Interviews 2012: SIMONBIGRON
SIMONBIGRON is next for the Vital Villa interview.

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

Since Italia `90 when I first got into football full stop. David Platt was causing a stir and he was "one of our lot".

2) Paul Lambert? Your opinion please?

Of the bunch I wanted, he is probably the one that comes with the least negatives. Rogers and Martinez both play great football, but Rogers walked into a Swansea side that had been playing that way for years under different managers. Martinez has a terrible record despite his exciting football and we might have had to put up with a few more years of dross before his tactics reaped their rewards. Not really sure why Holloway was overlooked, but again his record is patchy.

So yeah, a solid candidate and probably the one I wanted most of all. Saying that, I want to be careful because last year I thought 'Eck would be a good choice as he`d take us back to basics… oops.

3) Best and worst moments of last season?

Best - Feeling at half time at the emirates in the FA cup game.

Worst - Feeling at full time at the emirates in the FA cup game.

4) Your opinion of Randy Lerner and the board, can a decent season next season make up for last season?

I think our initial impressions of the board were gleaned through a MON-shaped lens. MON`s organisation and professionalism hid the fact that the board were incredibly inexperienced and hadn`t really thought their business plan through.

The idea that they could spend us into the champions league and then stop spending has been the cause of our last two years of heartache. A slower, more considered approach may have been better than just allowing MON to spend 70 odd million on quite a lot of average/old players.

I am one of those that still struggles to understand why Villa fans persist in blaming MON for the boards mistakes. It isn`t the managers job to set the transfer budget; MON spent what he was told he could. I can`t blame the bloke for leaving if the board suddenly changed their long-term plan because they realised they had cocked up.

In addition I think the way the last two managerial appointments have been handled has been laughable and some serious PR work needs to be done to get the club back to where it was four years ago. They also should have got rid of 'Eck a long time before they did. Last season could have been very serious for this club and we shouldn`t forget that just because they have finally got the right man after 3 attempts.

Saying all that, I do think their heart is in the right place and some of the off-field work the board have done has been excellent. I am hoping that after learning from their mistakes, the board can take the club on a more sustainable path to the champions league.

5) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?
Goalkeepers - Ruddy, Foster,

Defence - Re sign Cuellar, two new centre backs, two decent full backs
Midfield - Dempsey, Adam, Milner, Hoilett, Moses, Hoolehan, Sigurdsson,
Attack - Morison, Holt

6) Which player/s should Villa get rid of this summer?

Hutton has to be the worst Villa signing ever?! Him and Warnock, one of either Dunne or Collins… N`Zogbia if he doesn`t change his attitude.

7) Favourite current player?

Stan Petrov.

8) Favourite all time player/s?

Paul McGrath, Stan Collymore, Martin Laursen

9) What do you expect us to do/finish this season assuming a decent transfer window with £25m or so spent?

Premier - Top 8
FA Cup: - Quarters
Carling: - Quarters

10) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

Q- What would have happened had MON stayed at Villa?

A- We would have won a trophy and we would have qualified for the Champions League. Providing he doesn`t throw his toys out the pram at Sunderland, we may well see them do just that.

11) Just to change the theme slightly, a snap shot of you outside of football, answer or ignore at your leisure:
(based on our WHO ARE YOU thread!!!)

a) Which celebrity/s would you most like to meet and why? None. I`ve had the pleasure of meeting most of my heroes and they all disappointed in person.

b) Age 30 this weekend

c) Location: Oxford

d) Favourite alcoholic drink: Lager

e) Favourite non-alcoholic drink: Milk

f) Favourite Film/s: Grosse Pointe Blank, Bob Roberts, Ghostbusters

g) Favourite TV Show/s: The Walking Dead, Buffy

h) Music?: Manics, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedy`s

i) Best ever moment in your life: Seeing Yellowstone national park

Well never agree, MON had hit his ceiling lol It's what it's about though, we are getting things right off the pitch, we need to get them right again on the pitch and hopefully Lambert will be both the right man for the job but is also a clear sign that the board have learnt from earlier mistakes.
