Vital Villa Interviews 2012: BigFatRon

Vital Villa Interviews 2012: BigFatRon
BigFatRon is next for the Vital Villa interview.

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

I was born claret and blue, so 1973. My granddad was a rabid Villa fan, so I was never going to support anyone else. As a nipper I lived in my Villa tracksuit, and when my mum took me shopping in Kings Heath on Fridays, all the old dears would ask me my name and I always replied 'Andy Gray', so yeah - Villa pretty much since I learnt to talk!!

2) Paul Lambert? Your opinion please?

I was initially caught up in the whole OGS thing, but now the dust has settled, I think its a really good appointment. We need a no-nonsense manager to weed out the wasters (of which we have a few) and knock some pride back into the team. I think Lambert is just the man.

3) Best and worst moments of last season?

Worst - The arrival of Mcleish. I was one of those who voted with his feet, and with a heavy heart binned my season ticket after ten consecutive years in disgust at his appointment, and haven't been near B6 since.
Best - The firing of Mcleish. I'll be back now - Saturdays ain't been the same, although probably not with a season ticket yet. My mates around me all cancelled too, and are yet to be convinced to return - such is the level of ill feeling that the whole Mcleish thing created.

4) Your opinion of Randy Lerner and the board, can a decent season next season make up for last season?

See the answer above! They have lost virtually all of the good will they created in the early days in the last season, signing Mcleish in the face of such vociferous protests was just a huge smack in the face, and then the stazi-like response to anyone daring to protest in the ground has left a really bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. Still, Randy can redeem himself - and his recent actions are a step in the right direction.

5) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer?

Not sure about all the talk around Grant Holt - think he may have had a fluke first season and he is getting on a bit. Other than that, an entire defence, and we desperately need a holding midfielder - not sure who though, lets see who's available in the coming weeks, as the Euros are bound to influence the transfer market.

6) Which player/s should Villa get rid of this summer?

As mentioned - the entire defence, a complete liability, and if the gossip is correct disruptive off the pitch too. I think the Fonz has had his chance too.

7) Favourite current player?

Stan - so hope he beats his illness.

8) Favourite all time player/s?

Sid Cowans, Tony Daley, Ian Taylor, God, Juan Pablo Angel, and Martin Laursen.

9) What do you expect us to do/finish this season assuming a decent transfer window with 25m or so spent?

Premier Top 10
FA Cup: 3rd - we are cursed!
Carling: Semi final??

10) You can ask yourself any question you want to about Villa and what is your answer?

McLeish, what were they thinking??!! (I don't think anyone can answer that one!!)

11) Just to change the theme slightly, a snap shot of you outside of football, answer or ignore at your leisure:
(based on our WHO ARE YOU thread!!!)

a) Which celebrity/s would you most like to meet and why? None of them - although I have to agree that a previous interviewee's choice of meeting Simon Cowell, just to give him a slap sounds quite tempting!

b) Age 39

c) Location: Solihull

d) Favourite alcoholic drink: Any German beer - Augustiner my current favourite

e) Favourite non-alcoholic drink: Coke

f) Favourite Film/s: Big Lebowski, Sexy Beast, Pulp Fiction

g) Favourite TV Show/s: The Wire, Sopranos, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Boardwalk Empire

h) Music?: 90's Indie music, and a bit of Metal

i) Best ever moment in your life: Being at Wembley for the league cup win against Man Utd was pretty special!!

j) Ambitions: Sell the house, buy a yacht, and spend my retirement years sailing around the Med. (I must get round to telling the Mrs about this...)
