Vital Villa Summer Interview: AVFC4ME

AVFC4ME steps up for the Vital Villa members interviews.

Q: When did you become a Villa fan and why?

Back in the mid 80`s, my father was given some tickets through work and at a young age took me to see Villa Vs Liverpool at Villa Park. We sat in the upper Holte and it was exhilarating! I guess that was what really got me interested in football and really based on that match I would become either a Villa or Liverpool supporter. Everyone at school supported Liverpool at the time and I wanted to be different (plus probably thought my Dad might take me to a few more games if I chose the local one!!). My brother has a very similar story, but my father took him to Leicester Vs Man Utd - the poor guy never stood a chance!!!!

Q: The season just gone, good bad or ugly? What did you think of it?

I`m thoroughly disappointed that we didn`t get that coveted fourth spot and I think at the end of the prior season I`d set my own expectation that we`d get there in the season just gone. So disappointed from that respect. However, with the emergence of Man City and Spurs, the proverbial goalposts had been moved slightly and so I`m pleased that we were still competing for most of the season. How we move forward now is the big question - can we compete for 4th again next season? The answer is of course 'yes` but we need to compete in the transfer market first.

Q: Best and worst moment of last season?

Best - Beating Chelsea and Man Utd on their own turf

Worst - losing the cup final to Man Utd (who my brother supports)

Q: James Milner... is he off do you think? If so, what price (realistically) should Villa hold out for? If off to Man City, which - if any - of their players would you want in exchange?

I think the likelihood is that he is off. Personally I think he is one of our biggest stars and would be gutted to see him go, but having said that, if the resulting cash and/or players moves us forward it might be a great thing for Villa. I would be happy to see Ireland and Richards at Villa park plus some cash.

Q: What signings (type of player or specific name/s if you wish) would you like to see Villa buy this summer?

Number one on the list is a striker. There are other areas in which we need to strengthen too, but up front we need some more options. This HAS to be the main focus.

Q: Where do you stand on Martin O'Neill (I don't mean literally, that would be assault) ?

Today, I rate him extremely highly and think he is (still) the right man for the job. I honestly can`t think of anyone else I`d rather see in the seat right now (from those who would realistically take the job). He can be frustrating sometimes in his rotation policies, but then I don`t see how players perform on the training pitch so who am I to judge? Transfer policy wise, I think this summer is his most important yet and may therefore test my faith!

Q: Your opinion of Randy and the board?

Well as boards go I have two I can compare: the Ellis era and the Lerner era. There is no question the Lerner era is better in every conceivable way - so two thumbs up from me!!!

Q: Favourite current player and favourite all time player/s

Current - James Milner

All time - so many, but I think I`m going to go with Dalian Atkinson, Paul McGrath (goes without saying), and I always enjoyed watching Tony Daley too!

Q: Do you expect progress next season, difficult to answer before the transfer window closes I know?

So dependent on what happens in the transfer window, but if we bring in a decent striker, I think we can progress for sure.

Q: Right, lets lower the tone... which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

Charlize Theron, and I can`t think of anyone more punchable than Cristiano Ronaldo!
