Vital Villa Summer Interview: Aspinall

Aspinall steps up for the Vital Villa members interviews.

Q: When did you become a Villa fan and why?

Dad used to take me down from age of about 6/7 so 1980ishhhh, probably went to a night game with the AV floodlights on and that`s it isn't it? You just get hooked.

Q: The season just gone, good bad or ugly? What did you think of it?

On paper great,cup runs and top 6....but can't help feeling money could have been spent more inventively and we are pretty poor to watch on the whole,a bit like England where we just stick with what isn't working and we don't adapt. Felt very low after Cup final with MON`s lack of speed to change anything and don't think that'll ever change.

Q: Best and worst moment of last season?

Chelsea at home made me think...hummmmm we might be onto something...and Reading away was a great comeback after looking out of the FA cup.


Cup final killed me and the inevitable fall from grace,promised so much and delivered nothing ( unless you rate top 6 ).

Q: James Milner... is he off do you think? If so, what price (realistically) should Villa hold out for? If off to Man City, which - if any - of their players would you want in exchange?

I think Man City may think again and they've already bought 2 midfielders, Gareth Barry and Ireland would do me fine.

Q: What signings (type of player or specific name/s if you wish) would you like to see Villa buy this summer?

Robbie Keane would bring the best out of Carew and Ashley Young if his legs aren't shot. Yaya Toure would have been worth a shout but gone for astro money,but any other midfielder with same abilities please!

Q: Where do you stand on Martin O'Neill (I don't mean literally, that would be assault) ?

I think he's massively overrated and loves himself, he can't understand how anyone doubts anything he does.

Q: Your opinion of Randy and the board?

I thank them for everything so far, although we haven't exactly lived the dream we may have thought, can they make the tough decisions if required around MON as he seems above being targeted.

Q: Favourite current player and favourite all time player/s

I rate Ashley Young technically but can't say I have a favourite player in this team, none of them excite me like say a Yorke used to.
Peter Withe and Platty I was pretty much obsessed with.


Q: Do you expect progress next season, difficult to answer before the transfer window closes I know?

I think we'll be poorer than last few seasons, I can't see much money being available after what we've spent over last 4 years and this may cause some grief at VP, with Luke Young not getting any more games the balance looks poor and teams will pick us off.

Q: Right, lets lower the tone... which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

Jeez so many Id like to bang...Cheryl Cole, Natalie Sawyer about 3 birds in Corrie, Barbara Windsor.


I'd smash Jasper Carrot all over the place, and I reckon I could as well.

Agree with mon is over rated but I cant help thinking that he would have jumped ship if he didnt have any money to spend. I can see us getting rid of the dead wood such as beye, shorey, sidders etc and we'll wait until the last week to sign anyone and we'll have an even smaller squad than last season.
