Vital Villa Summer Interview: villabob
villabob steps up for the Vital Villa members interviews.
Q: When did you become a Villa fan and why?
It was the 1974/75 season when we were in the old 2nd Division. We beat Albion 3-1 at home - The first goal was scored by Tony Brown for the Baggies and then a brace from Keith Leonard and one from Chico won it for us. It was also featured on MOTD that night as well. I was well and truly hooked!
Q: The season just gone, good bad or ugly? What did you think of it?
It was a good season where we made more progress in all domestic competitions. It could have been so much better though. Ours is most certainly evolution and not revolution. Each year in points tally, we are getting closer to the CL places. Its going to be hard but we must keep striving to reduce and get there.
Q: Best and worst moment of last season?
Best - Blackburn Home Semi
Worst - Chelsea Semi
Q: James Milner... is he off do you think? If so, what price (realistically) should Villa hold out for? If off to Man City, which - if any - of their players would you want in exchange?
Yes, I do think he will go - I would prefer him to stay though. I reckon £30m would be a great price, and could be done with less and Ireland if he goes to Citeh! - No respect if he does go there though cos it will be for the money. If he moved to a CL team then I could understand. Lets see how his stock looks after the World Cup. Would be interesting with his transfer, sale of fringe players and new sponsorship. Lets hope that MON does the business!
Q: What signings (type of player or specific name/s if you wish) would you like to see Villa buy this summer?
1 x GK, 1x RB, 2 x Midfield, 1x Attacker - Must be real quality that will move us forward and not just to retain top 6 spot. Ireland, O'hara spring to mind for midfield - Maybe Keane but not at more than 6-7m. Would like to see MON keep Young (RB), Davies, NRC though - We will need these to attack all competitions next season
Q: Where do you stand on Martin O'Neill (I don't mean literally, that would be assault) ?
I think that the new season is crucial for him. I really want him to stay for at least another term. If he cannot break into CL places then I think it might be that he has taken us as far as he can. Overall, when will all look back 'on his watch' then it will be viewed positively. I loved the singing for him at Wembley against Chelski. I do worry about his tactics (great away from home, not so good at VP) sometimes though and the way that he favours keeping certain players on for 90 mins every week - Petrov being the main one!
Q: Your opinion of Randy and the board?
Great! - I love all the subtle changes that he has made in/around VP, Bodymoor Heath. The way he stays in the background (unlike HDE) and he provided funds. Keep it up Randy!
Q: Favourite current player and favourite all time player/s
Current - James Milner (Do you think he will stay now that he knows this) - Ha Ha Ha
All Time - 1. Brian Little - 2. David Platt - 3. Paul McGrath
Q: Do you expect progress next season, difficult to answer before the transfer window closes I know?
Yes I do. With or without Milner's transfer. If he does go we could have around 60-70m to spend (fringe, summer money, sponsorship) - That could buy 4/5 quality players to take us to next level. If he doesn't go then I still expect circa 40m - Could be 2/3 quality players - Remember we would still have Milner and we have the base of players there already. Just that bit of quality could make the difference either to break into CL or win trophies.
Q: Right, lets lower the tone... which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!
Couldn't possibly say as I am married and my kids will read this. I do think that Scarlett Johansson is hot though!
Thump - Anyone who brings one of those Vuvuzela's into VP next year, although I think that there might be a queue!
