Vital Villa Summer Interview: BeardMasterFlex

BeardMasterFlex steps up for the Vital Villa members interviews.

Q: When did you become a Villa fan and why?

This might sound odd but football was never a huge thing in my family, my love affair with Villa only really started at the turn of the century when I started dating my now soon to be wife who together with her mum were villa mad, by mad I mean they attended every home and away game, had season tickets in the lower trinity and used to discuss tactics with John Gregory at Bodymoor Heath!

My first game watching villa was FC Basel at home in the Intertoto cup not long before JG went, and while that wasn't remotely exciting, I've grown to be an avid follower ever since.

Q: The season just gone, good bad or ugly? What did you think of it?

Can't really say anything other than good. An improvement on last season in the cups and we looked a lot stronger at the back after the post xmas disintegration of last year. However there was a sense of inevitability that we wouldn't manage 4th from our poor home form, too many draws and a distinct lack of ideas from MON at times coupled with the losses at wembley ended the season as something of an anti-climax, but overall you'd have to say we're still progressing.

Q: Best and worst moment of last season?

Best: Beating Man U at the theatre of Irish Cockneys

Worst: Losing to Man U in the manner we did at Wembley

Q: James Milner... is he off do you think? If so, what price (realistically) should Villa hold out for? If off to Man City, which - if any - of their players would you want in exchange?

I'd say so, if the speculation should be believed that Citeh and Chelski are in for him then we should hold out for at least 35m (if City paid 24m for Lescott then Milner should be worth near enough double by that logic). Either that or 20m + Ireland or SWP and I'd gladly snap their arms off.

Q: What signings (type of player or specific name/s if you wish) would you like to see Villa buy this summer?

Realistically I'd like to see the strike force revamped, would actually like to see Rodallega in a Villa shirt as a replacement for Heskey as he'd not cost the earth and there's goals in him. I'd also like to see us get Ireland as we need someone who can play the killer ball in midfield and offer a plan B and also if we do get shot of Milner I'd like to see us bust a gut to sign someone prolific like Darren Bent.

Q: Where do you stand on Martin O'Neill (I don't mean literally, that would be assault) ?

I think we'd be hard pushed to get a better manager. I don't agree with his reluctance to change things around when its quite clear we won't win a game (West Ham at home being a prime example). However I do see to some extent that the current options he has to bring on are hardly exciting. That aside I say he's doing a top job, next season will be a big test to see if he can take us any further though.

Q: Your opinion of Randy and the board?

Gotta love Randy and the General. Not many boards have a designated employee to liase and talk with fans the way the general does and I think thats fantastic as you know they take our feedback on board. Randy has the clubs interests at heart, and it would be nice to see him throw some more money in but can't say he hasn't backed MO'N thus far.

Q: Favourite current player and favourite all time player/s

Ahem, well here is my embarrassing lack of history as a supporter exposed. I've only seen villa play from the past decade so its based solely on that!

Current: Milner and Friedel

All Time: Laursen, Mellberg and Juan Pablo Angel (mainly because the only time I had a season ticket was the season he scored 23 goals and THAT goal vs Chelsea in the Carling Cup)

Q: Do you expect progress next season, difficult to answer before the transfer window closes I know?

All depends on that window but we have to progress, if we don't we'll lose our best players and I think MO'N will go or be poached if he thinks we've gone as far as we can. Here's hoping for some long awaited silverware!

Q: Right, lets lower the tone... which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

Think I'd definitely have to give Anne Hathaway a good rodgering if given a chance. I would also love to smash Michael Buble or Brian Mcfadden in the face for releasing god awful songs that drive me nuts when I hear them on the radio.
