Something For The Weekend (271)

Something For The Weekend (271)
All Hail Caesar!

Randolfus Thickwalletus Maximus Patrius Lernerus, the citizens of Villanius thank thee.

Almighty Caesar, the conqueror of all doubters, gainsayers and whingers, we salute thee, on this day in the year of our Lord, AD 2010, for thou hast lifted up the spirits of the tribe of the Holtes and Wittons, who worship at the temple of the Villans and whose oracles are uttered by Martinus Maximus Ulsterus O'Neillius.

We praise thee and exalt thine name on high as we the loyal cohorts mount our banners skyward and set our best foot forward along the Appian Way, as we prepare to take on the Newton Heathens in a battle which may determine the future of the Empire and turn back the barbarian hordes of gothic Coketowninium.

May the gods bless the Empire's troops and let their glory eclipse the mighty Biggutus Ronus and the divine Brianus Diminutus.

It is but a decade since our last sojourn towards the towers and only the toothless crones and scrotes, can relate the scale of infamy which followed.

All Hail our Mighty Caesar!

Long live Caesar!

But whatever the result, come Sunday, let us not forget the fantastic journey this our club has made and let us not be too churlish, should our best hopes be routed.

From this day to the ending of the world, But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his tears in joy or grief with me
Shall be my brother
Be brave my sons, be brave! Cry Villa and Saint George!

Meanwhile back on planet Villan, Villa took a further step towards the final of the FA Cup, the one cup to rule them all, within days of furthering their claim to a place in the top-four with the resounding defeat of Burnley.

If anyone just happened to be curious to know exactly why big John Carew is such a hero for the Holte End, then they only needed to look at the lad's performance on Wednesday night, to see for themselves. He was truly awesome and his sheer bulk and power, totally discombobulated the Palace defenders as they struggled to negotiate a route around his substantial footprint and could only climb all over him like squirrels on a redwood. And, then when he took his penalties, he hit the ball so hard that it looked like the goalkeeper was diving out of the way, for his own safety.

All these are the qualities which add up to everything the Plebs want from a gladiator and that is why they so often give him the thumbs-up, even when he seems like he didn't quite earn it. He might not do it, quite as often as most of us would like but boy when he does, he is truly awesome.

Those with a more up to date vocabulary than myself, said that the Palace defenders, just got 'owned' by John Carew - whatever that means?

Even Gabby is starting to bully defenders these days and much in the manner of the robustness of Shearer, he is starting to make himself chances by just knocking his marker out of the way, as he escapes from some Greco-Roman defensive hold to get himself on the end of a cross. He certainly is one strong boy.

Villa seem increasingly strong in all areas these days and although it has been understandably over-shadowed by their progress to the Cup Final, I don't think most fans realise what a fantastic couple of months Villa have had. A combination of terrible weather and replays gave them a daunting fixture backlog, which in other years and with other squads, would have tripped them up, on other fronts, but Villa have hung in there, while looking a bit better than half decent.

There's been a few teams made their way to a final, even a certain team in blue down the road, but doing it in three competitions really takes some doing, some focus and some strength.

Villa look so strong and you can't be too strong.

And we may need to be even stronger.

Keep the faith!
