Vital Villan Mid Season Interview: Trekker

Vital Villan Mid Season Interview: Trekker

Trekker takes the Vital Villa mid-season interview:

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

The cliché is from birth , but its true, dad was born 400 yards from Villa Park, my granddad used to repair the players boots and was a drinking partner of Pongo Waring, so is in the blood. First game was 1967.

2) What do you think of this season, do we have the chance to push on or will we slip up like last season?

Typically Villa! Highs and lows, my honest opinion is that we don't have the firepower to push on.

3) Best moment/s of this season so far?

Really enjoyed the Semi at Blackburn, the football match I mean, wonderful atmosphere. I also enjoyed calling James Collins first goal, just before the corner was taken.
Oh yes Lee Barnett's flip flops in November.... {you had to be there..! ed}

4) Worst moment/moments of this season so far?

Wigan- I haven't been so angry for a long time, an utterly inept performance. And as some others have said, that Liverpool goal, yet another howler from our own team beat us.

5) Do you expect any arrivals this January (bearing in mind MON has indicated not) and IF you could bring in a player or two, who (realistically) would you go for?

I don't expect anyone, and MON has had an awful lot of money given to him previously.

If we could? its academic really because we wont get them, so I will say Sir Brian Little

6) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer? And do you think Villa will spend enough this summer to progress?

I find this really difficult to answer, there is a basic issue here, the players we all want, the David Villa's etc simply wont come, we have to get real on this, they will go either to Manchester because of the Champions League or mega cash or London for the same reasons, plus much as we love it, Birmingham isn't a 'pull' for the big names.
Just because we would walk over coals to play for Villa doesn't mean others will (did I mention that I had played at Villa Park by ay chance, I could do a feature on it if you like I have newspaper cuttings and everything in fact I remember........................)

7) If we made the Carling Cup final, who would you most like to face Manchester United or Manchester City?

United, because I don't want it to be all about Barry, I want it to be about Villa

8) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?

Premier League: 6th
FA Cup: Final win
Carling Cup: Final win

9) Your opinion on Martin O'Neill now he is mid way through his 4th season in charge?

Oh the easy ones last huh?

I was elated when we got him, and I never boo, I do however get very frustrated by some 'odd' decisions. The Spuds game at home last season sums it up for me, we had 3 right backs in ten minutes, none of whom were the only right back on the field who was playing left back. The other one is if MON does change things, for example he wants the midfield changed, why not take a midfielder off not the right back (who was playing well) and put the midfielder who wasn't playing well at right back? Those are the negative points

On the plus side, he has brought pride back, ( due in no small amount to Randy Lerner's generosity)

10) Your opinion on Randy Lerner and his board?

Wonderful.

I travel a lot with work mainly in the UK but also in Europe and without fail, our owner is praised to the hilt as a role model of how it should be done. I get very very very angry when these stupid, childish and downright insulting stories about not giving MON money or looking to sell the club come up, its nothing but rags inventing stories to sell papers, I know that's true because Pele told me....

11) Favourite current player?

Harder question than it should be, I like a few, I like Milner, Gabby, the Young brothers (Ashley and Luke) in other words nearly all the team, not one favourite really

12) Favourite former player/s?

SIR BRIAN LITTLE

Paul McGrath, Sir Dennis Mortimer, Bruce Rioch, Chico Hamilton, Willie Anderson, Brian Godfrey, the list is endless.

13) Right, lets lower the tone... which celebrity would you most like to bang and which would you most like to thump!?!

I have a theory that you should be allowed 3 punches in a game, so that if someone whinges to the ref all the time or shows an imaginary card, you can punch them, I think it would improve football no end...........

Can I just thump several? David Gold I find him loathsome. Robbie Savage- ditto Piers Morgan- ditto 'Celebrity' Man U Fans
( Mr Fear this list will go on for too long stop me here)

With thanks to Trekker
