Vital Villan Mid Season Interview: deanovilla
Deanovilla takes the mid season Vital Villa interview saying 'Really really don't have the time or inclination to do this, but have been literally BOMBARDED by my loyal fan base to get it done so here goes. lol'

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

Would like to say from birth but seriously is that even possible? Think my Dad got me into them aged 5 or 6, and went to me first game aged 7.

2) What do you think of this season, do we have the chance to push on or will we slip up like last season?

4th is there for the taking. People may argue we don't have the quality of a Champions League side, but having seen Liverpool a number of times this season I'd be amazed if they finished 4th. So there's a spot there to be filled and I believe we have just as good a chance as Man City or Spurs to fill it.

3) Best moment/s of this season so far?

Without doubt the win at Old Trafford. A little bit gutted I didn't go, but just watching it in a pub was sweet enough. Hopefully we've now banished that particular hoodoo and we can go and beat them a few more times in the seasons to come.

4) Worst moment/moments of this season so far?

No doubt about it, Wigan at home first game of the season. I like to think I'm a fairly level headed guy but the performance that day had me claiming 'My god, we're awful I wouldn't be surprised if we were relegated this season'. Thank God it was just a blip.

5) Do you expect any arrivals this January (bearing in mind MON has indicated not) and IF you could bring in a player or two, who (realistically) would you go for?

I very much doubt it. It seems to get harder and harder each year to buy anyone of genuine quality in January and I think the squad is now good enough that we don't need to buy for the sake of it.

IF I had my way though I'd go and buy a partner for Gabby. A real predator of a striker, but unfortunately I can't think of any who would be available at the moment.

6) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer? And do you think Villa will spend enough this summer to progress?

I think the defence and midfield is looking pretty solid now. Wouldn't mind selling both Heskey and Carew and bringing in 2 top drawer strikers though. Unfortunately I can't think of any in the English Premier League who are good enough and also realistic, so it's going to mean MON shopping abroad which doesn't seem to be his strength.

Also think we need a new keeper as I'm assuming this will be Big Brads final year at the top level. Love us to go out and get Kirkland and tell him and little Brad to fight it tooth and nail for the number 1 spot.

7) If we made the Carling Cup final, who would you most like to face Manchester United or Manchester City?

Manchester City. I want to win it and we have more chance of beating Manchester City than Manchester United.

8) What do you expect us to do/finish this season?

Premier League: 5th (despite saying 4th is there for the taking I think we'll just miss out to Man City)
FA Cup: Quarters
Carling Cup: Winners

9) Your opinion on Martin O'Neill now he is mid way through his 4th season in charge?

Me and Martin have a bizarre relationship. lol. I didn't want him at the club in the first place. I disagree with a lot of his selections and his stubbornness at times. Yet I find myself on Vital constantly defending the bloke!! I think it stems back to what I said earlier about me trying to be level headed, when I see people going way OTT with criticism it really winds me up and I can't help but defend the person on the receiving end. Yes he makes mistakes but we have improved every season since he's been here and in a results driven business he doesn't deserve half the stick he gets in my opinion.

10) Your opinion on Randy Lerner and his board?

Love the man. Such a refreshing change from the old Chairman... Doug sommit or other wasn't it? Some people say it's all American marketing and spin. I disagree. I think he is genuinely motivated by the challenge to make us great again and if he wants to spoil the fans along the way I'm not going to moan.

11) Favourite current player?

I have a HUGE man crush on James Milner! There I said it! LMAO. No not in a sexual way, I think he's an ugly little bastard, lol, but the guy just oozes professionalism, works his socks off, is one hell of a talented footballer and seems a genuinely nice guy to boot. James Collins is my man at the back, and I'm also a big Gabby fan. Again as with MON the stick this lad gets completely amazes me, he may not be the most natural finisher but his game has improved dramatically year on year. His all round game is superb now and he never stops running.

12) Favourite former player/s?

Starting from the 80's up until recently... McInally, McGrath, Staunton, Ginola, Merson, Taylor and of course Martin Laursen!!!!

13) Right, lets lower the tone... which celebrity would you most like to bang and which (male I would think) celeb would you most like to thump!?!

At the moment Pixie Lott. My god she is hot.

Who would I like to thump, really no contest at all. Danny Dyer!!!! Has there ever been a more annoying, cockney, wide boy twat in the course of human history? I bet he's a complete pussy in real life too.

like that comment about your bizarre relationship with MON, well put also agree some are slating him for everything which when you look at this season is mad, we aren't at the top but we are doing fairly well!

no mention of fashion deano?

Its funny you should say we are doing well Fear, which of course we are, but when compared to last season when we were still in Europe and sat in 4th, its evidence of expectations being lowered if you ask me. The League Cup run is the only thing we have improved on from last season.

Ginola is one of your favourite players Deano? :-s Its a funny old game.
19/01/2010 08:35:00
I credit Ginola for me becoming a season ticket holder again. Was going through a lull and a mate of mine said who would we need to sign to re-ignite my interest and I said Ginola. A few months later we got him and I stuck to my word and bought a season ticket and have had one ever since. It may not have worked out for him, but he was a great player.
19/01/2010 10:54:00
He certainly had his moments Dean it must be said
19/01/2010 13:11:00
YJ, possibly my expectations have been reduced slightly mate, I'm very tired at the moment also and that has one of two effects, I either get angry and frustrated or I (more usually) just get chilled about things and the latter is the case at the moment! If we had got a striker in this summer, I'd be opti for 4th and above, but as we didn't for whatever reason (and it didn't happen so I can't be bothered putting energies into being angry or frustrated etc about that fact) and so I see 6th and possible silverware or final appearance as what we should be achieving, anything else will just be gravy!
