Vital Villan Interviews: Villan57

Vital Villan Interviews: Villan57
Villan57 takes the Vital Villan interview:

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

My uncle took me to see the Villa for my 10th birthday December 1967.

Can't remember much about it apart from I'd never seen so many people in my life!

2) Best moment/moments as a Villa fan?

Getting promoted from Div3 , then Div2 then winning the League and European Cup.

3) Worst moment/moments as a Villa fan?

Relegation to Div 3 , I cried my eyes out!

4) Best and worst away ground visited?

Best - Everton , proper ground!
Worst - Anywhere when we've lost!

5) What did you think of last season? Good, bad or indifferent and do you think we progressed?

Gutted in the end , to go from being top 4 to being the second worst side in the league in the last 3rd is seriously worrying me.
Losing our two best players as well , means for me we are going backwards at this moment in time.
League position is the same so you could say we have stood still? Sorry but don't see we've progressed.

6) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer? And do you think Villa will spend enough this summer to progress?

A lot of players have been mentioned and we'll need most of them if we are to get that bigger better squad.
Bentley, Bent , Huddlestone , Bale , Tuncay, Wheater ,Downing, and Owen There's 8 for starters that are realistic but we are almost sure to lose 5? Laursen Barry Bouma Harewood and Osbourne so we could do with a couple more if we are to progress on 4 fronts ?

7) What do you expect next season?

Premier League:8th behind Man City and Spurs.
FA Cup: Have a good run
Europa League:Throw in the Towel
Carling Cup: Have a good run

8) Your opinion on Martin O'Neill now he is approaching his 4th season in charge?

Lost it with him ages ago , Poor signings , Poor tactics , Poor team selections , Poor substitutions, and some really poor football at Villa Park .
Media love him because he's game for the odd quip but no to me he's not what I thought he was , he isn't even the man motivator we keep being told he is or we'd have not just had one of the worst losing runs in our history ! He's sadly taken us to his limit , Hard working average Joe's only get you so far . Sorry if that sounds harsh but I want the best for my beloved club and he was the best at the time so we all thought but now I'm sure he's gone as far as he possibly can.

9) Your opinion on Randy Lerner and his board?

Starting to have doubts about Randy , blotted his copy book with his comments that he'd keep Barry and run down his contract even if he received a bid of 12m . A week later Barry had gone !

Can we still trust a word he says ? Come on Randy get that cheque book out and prove me wrong ! Or better still borrow Doug's Axe! lol

10) Favourite current player?

Tough one not a lot of choice since Laursen and Barry went , I have a soft spot for Gardner I like his determination but MON seem reluctant to play him

11) Favourite former player/s?

So many Sir Brian Little , Sir Dennis , Andy Gray, Sid, I could list 30 but most would be from the late 70's early 80's.

12) What did you make of the Gareth Barry exit?

Miserable day when you lose your Captain , best player and current England regular to a team who finished below us last season . I know the bitter and twisted will say he's only gone for the money but I don't think an extra 10k a week more than Villa offered him would have swung it . Sadly City have more money and a better chance of progressing than Villa , the truth hurts it hurts me too .

13) Right, lets lower the tone... which celebrity would you most like to bang?!

Bang! Martin O'Neill over the head with a baseball bat ! Sorry couldn't resist that one ! Lol

With thanks to Villan57

Way to go '57. A true Villa fans interview. Any interviews from fans who aint been following the lads for forty years at least, should be disregarded, null and void. The old timers are the best, they've been through it all. Aint that right '57? We know what we're on about, not like these young whipper-snappers who've only been around five minutes. Some interesting answers, a very enjoyable read. We could certainly put the Villa world to rights discussing the old times, the memories etc '57. Good interview from one of my personal favourite VV contributors (for what that's worth).

Must add, very, very interesting to read your response to number nine (number nine, number nine - Thankyou The Beatles). The summer will answer a lot of questions and concerns, but certainly as of right now, questions are entitled to be asked, and doubts are certainly starting to surface. We shall see.

No Merlin, he'd have made my top 30 with the rest of the European cup winning side. Willie Anderson was my left wing hero as a kid !
