Vital Villan Interview: Euro_Champs_82

Vital Villan Interview: Euro_Champs_82
Euro_Champs_82 takes the Vital Villan interview:

1) When did you become a Villa fan and why?

As far back as i remember is seeing us lose 4-1 to leeds on TV..I think Daley got our goal...1990 i think that was, maybe 91...anyway, the season before the premier league started is about how i remember.

Why?...I dont know, my old man was big on local teams etc, all my mates were Liverpool and Man United...We used to listen to the radio every saturday, Radio WM and its crazy 'ITS A GOALLLLL' jingle, lol...None of my family were Villa, no-one I knew really. My old man was Walsall and my Uncle a nose...I'll put it down to David Platt and Tony Daley as 2 players I admired when I was a nipper.

2) Best moment/moments as a Villa fan?

Best moment has to be the 2 cup final wins...Everton away last season wasn't half bad either ;)

3) Worst moment/moments as a Villa fan?

Chelsea in the cup final, closely followed by the last 4 months!

4) Best and worst away ground visited?

Only been to local grounds...So best is WBA
I once went to Grimsby for the day with my Walsall mate...oh boy!!

5) What did you think of last season? Good, bad or indifferent and do you think we progressed?

Up until Febuary we were on fire, I was in dream land, at the same time I knew Febuary and March was going to be tough. We had Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City, Spurs, Everton all 6 within a 7 game slot(Stoke was the other)

We never recovered our confidence and the manager wouldn't change things enough to help us recover...The midfield started to play with the freedom of the world and we looked so fragile and easy to beat

We stood still in the end but recent form has to be a major worry!

6) Which player/s should Villa sign this summer? And do you think Villa will spend enough this summer to progress?

Lescott, Vermaelen, Naughton, Zhirkov, Arteta, Delph, Downing, Adam Johnson

We wont spend enough IMO

7) What do you expect next season?

Premier League: 8th
FA Cup: 5th Round
Europa League: Same stage again, get through the groups and fall as soon as it gets serious
Carling Cup: 3rd Round. Expect our reserves to get beat.

8) Your opinion on Martin O'Neill now he is approaching his 4th season in charge?

Until now I have always gone along with him being the messiah. Now? I want to say he still is, I so do! But I am not sure, His stubbornness to change things over the past 4 months has scared me. Will there be a magic switch come August to make us win again?

Barry leaving tells me he doesnt see us progressing and maybe we are back top just being a top half team, ala HDE days!

9) Your opinion on Randy Lerner and his board?

I think hes driven expectations through the roof with his PR. Quotes of returning the glory of the 80's and wanting to make us Champions of England and Europe. 3 years later it seems that maybe he hasnt spent any money at all besides the clubs own revenue...Either he did not have a clue what those ambitions would require in terms of money, or he misled us with false pipe dreams! I would just like him to be more realistic and not getting my hopes up only to be let down. Its not a nice feeling at all!

10) Favourite current player?

John Carew or Ashley Young

11) Favourite former player/s?

There cannot be just one...

Paul Merson, Paul McGrath, Gareth Barry, Dwight Yorke, Gareth Southgate, Tony Daley, David Platt, Martin Laursen, Mark Bosnich

...I'm sure I've missed some.

12) Gareth Barry, will he stay or go and do you care?

He's gone! But if you asked me 36 hours ago I would have said hes going nowhere...Shows what I know!

13) Right, lets lower the tone... which celebrity would you most like to bang?!

Abi Titmuss!

Good interview, I too think that Barry's departure is more about the club's ambitions than earning loads of money (although i am sure it still played a part).
