Contenders? You Bet!

I would say I am most notable for my whinging on the Vital Villa message board - just ask Deano and Glensider ;-)

BUT I woke up this morning and went into a deep thought. Could we really be title contenders ?

You know what ?! I reckon we will be.

Developments at Villa Park are coming thick and fast.

The headline that Nike are making our kit next season is fantastic, although Fear and me tried really hard to sway them into having the old Adidas trefoil and an 80's kit design that could also accommodate fatties such as myself.

Couple this with the development of the training ground into one of the best around.

What we've seen so far with our new signings has been top quality ! I hold my hands up in saying Bardsley was a waste of time but I have been proved wrong there. To think that this summer is going to be one of the most exciting in years makes me wish this season was over !

I do truly believe Martin O'Neill is the man to take us forward. Its taking time for the jigsaw to come together but its going to be well worth it in my opinion. He gets the best out of players and imagine the quality he will bring in to make the team even better ?

Exciting times lie ahead and I believe he will make the team into title contenders and be the surprise side next year. He'll get the players in early in order to get everyone acquainted etc etc and then push on !

A new sponsor is all we are waiting on. I like the Nike kit idea but it would be nice to find a big British sponsor instead of going totally American. If MON gets who he wants then everything will click together nicely and I do honestly believe we'll be up there challenging.

Hold your horses? Why? The foundations of the club are being relaid. Training ground, CEO, shirt manufacturer, scouting network, Holte hotel, forward looking chairman, excellent manager, new players, established players re-signing contracts (they wouldn't have under Ellis) happy staff, free travel, ticket incentives, honouring of past glory, Ron Saunders on the pitch, communication with the fans from the whole of the senior management team.................... please can someone carry on what I've missed!!!!!!!!!!

By the way. Queresma was fancied by some of the guys during the transfer window. Saw him last night against Brasil. What a player!!!

Welcome iomvilla - your views will be very welcome......On Villa's future, lets run before we can walk. I agree long term we will be back on track for regular European football and challenging teh top 4 for honours, but it won't happen overnight, and there will be setbacks. I think the summer will be interesting. Wanting a player and being able to afford him does not guarantee we will get him.......So far so good and lets look forward to a Claret and Blue future.

U lucky guys have got 1 of the best managers around.

Very positive and upbeat article crosswesleyanchapel, and it made extremely pleasing reading. I agree wholeheartedly with your comments and sentiments. Yes, we'll all have our moans and groans in the months, seasons ahead, but if we remember to keep looking at the bigger picture then it will be obvious to all that progress is being made. We're on the way back, of that there can be little doubt.

Terriers. MON would not leave Villa for a few years yet. He still has to prove himself at the top level in England. Read the article you refered to though ... remember going to Hudders in the 80's ... open away end.... pouring down with rain and unfriendly natives. Hope things have improved up your way since!

It was said at the start of the season that the next few years will be a roller coaster of ups and downs. What was needed was for the missing thousands to regain the faith. It appears from Saturday that maybe, just maybe this could now be happening. I have heard it said that to truly build a magnificent team the manager needs three years. The first year to assess and make initial adjustments. Year two involves getting rid of all the deadwood that are on long conctracts and can often hang around like a bad smell. Year three involves making sure that you obtain the services of the required players. However it is year four before they start to play in the style most expected of them. IMHO opinion the new owners are showing their true colours and are in it or the long haul. The foundations are well and truly being laid. It is easy to see that initial adjustments have been made to the team, however I still say anything above half way this season is a real bonus. There are now decisions that need to be made on several players before much more can be done. These include Hendrie, Berger, Angel, Delaney, Jlloyd. Can these players contribute or establish themselves? However whatever the thought, you can not just simply get rid if you see them as surplus to reqirements. Someone has to buy them. It would cost a fortune to pay off their contracts. Assesments have to be made on the younger players also. It may be harsh but the sheer fact has to be, those not capable of being part of a team challenging for honours must also be moved on. Year three will, I believe, see Villa really becoming a force. So in short, everything is positive. Due to the lack of quality in the league from 5th place down, I do not think it would be a surprise to see us challenging for top 8 next season (5th is achievable). The following season I would like us to see us challenging, Redscouse, Manure, Chelski and the Arse. However we are so far behind these at the moment we should not take it for granted that this may happen. Redscouse are about to go in to a 60,000 seat stadium, Arse are already in one, Manure are hoing to extend to 90,000 and Chelski charge twice as much as us for the privelige are filling their stadium. It is vital that we start filling our ground every week, in order to give the new owners the confidence to develop the stadium to 50,000+. Only when this happens can we realistically expect to attract the world class players to truly enable the club to compete at the top level.

O'Neill for England ??? NO thanks ! The national side is ***** and to be honest the FA should have given Scolari the job. Yet again the Press had to ruin things

Good comments again voth. We are on the right track, and I think the very vast majority of supporters would agree on that point. That our good friend crosswesleyanchapel is now also feeling positive and upbeat is a good sign indeed.
