Vital Villan Interviews: alanfgee

1 - How long have you been a Villa fan and how did you first get the Claret & Blue faith? As, I imagine, one of your older readers, I started with the build-up to the 1957 FA Cup Final. Growing up in Hampshire, I was surrounded by Southampton and Portsmouth supporters and, looking to be different, liked the Villa name and their cup run was an attraction, too.
2 - What was your first game? Villa 2 Spurs 4 in September 1963, travelling to Villa Park on the Spurs supporters' coach. I stood with them throughout the game, too, without any problem.
3 - What is your most memorable moment as a Villa fan? Has to be the European Cup win.
4 - And the worst moment? Relegation to Division Three, although that had the blessing of leading to one of Villa's best ever seasons.
5 - Who are your favourite current Villa players? Only one - Martin Laursen.
6 - Which former player/s are your ultimate heroes? Paul McGrath, Brian Little and Charlie Aitken.
7 - Which player do you think was the worst to ever put on the team colours? Can't get past Nigel Davenport.
8 - What is the best goal you have seen Villa score and which is your favourite game? (a) Dalian's at Wimbledon; (b) Spurs 5 Villa 5 in March 1966, though the League Cup Final win against Man United (sitting with my son, a United supporter) was pretty good, too.
9 - Best away ground visited? Old Trafford.
10 - Who would you like to see Villa sign this summer? A decent right back (perm any one from six), a top notch goalkeeper, SWP (preferable to Bentley, I think) and some really good squad players.
11 - What are your predictions for us this season in the:
a) League heart says 3rd-4th, head 5th-6th
b) Europe semi-finals
c) Carling Cup close to winners
d) Fa Cup a decent run and no game with Man United, please.
12 - What is your opinion of Martin O'Neill? A fine man-manager, capable of getting the best out of not so great players. Still to be convinced (any moment, I hope) by his work in the transfer market.
13 - What is your opinion of Randy Lerner and the new board? The great devotion to the Villa heritage is to be admired and the Acorns move even more so.
14 - Where do you sit at Villa and are you a season ticket holder? Ashamed to admit that I watch Villa from my armchair these days. I honestly can't remember my last time at Villa Park (for a match, I was at last year's Prostars convention). The last time I watched Villa live was at Sixfields Stadium, Northampton, for a pre-season friendly, when Savo Milosevic made his debut and the Villa supportes chanted 'who are you' at Ricardo Scimeca.
15 - And finally (stolen without shame from Vital Arsenal!) if you could invite 4 people connected to Villa, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be? And you can add one bit of top totty as well to make the party go with a 'bang' ;o) (1) Big Ron; (2) John Gregory; (3) Steve Stride; (4) Brian Little. And totty - Brigitte Bardot (preferably in her 1950s/1960s incarnation).
