Vital Villan Interviews: ziggy8080

1 - How long have you been a Villa fan and how did you first get the Claret & Blue faith?

Since I was born (!) - but really 33 years - I remember watching Star Soccer on Sunday afternoon with my dad, a Villa supporter as his father was before him.

2 - What was your first game?

Can't remember exactly - it was 78/9 season, I can remember a 2-0 win against Bristol City and 5-1 win over Arsenal with a Gary Shelton hatrick.

3 - What is your most memorable moment as a Villa fan?

Winning the European Cup, watching from the sofa deemed too young to travel aged 11... Then being at the two League Cup wins over Man U and Leeds.

4 - And the worst moment?

Relegation in 1987 and the hideous Hummel shirt we wore that year. FA Cup final with Chelsea.

5 - Who are your favourite current Villa players?

Barry, Young, Laursen, Carew (when fully fit)

6 - Which former player/s are your ultimate heroes?

In order, Paul McGrath, Brian Little, Gordon Cowans, Dennis Mortimer

7 - Which player do you think was the worst to ever put on the team colours?

Nigel Callaghan takes some beating.

8 - What is the best goal you have seen Villa score and which is your favourite game?

Tony Morley's goal of the season at Goodison Park and Dalian Atkinson's at Wimbledon.

9 - Best away ground visited?

Goodison.

10 - Who would you like to see Villa sign this summer?

Schweingsteiger, Arshavin, Stearman, Ben Foster (don't think we are ready for 10mil+ full backs yet), good central defender.

11 - What are your predictions for us this season in the:
a) League
Top 6
b) Europe Knock out stages
c) Carling Cup Semi's
d) Fa Cup 6th round

12 - What is your opinion of Martin O'Neill?

Great apart from his transfer dealings - I'm getting a bit tired of being patient and hearing how difficult it all is; I wonder why we seem to have such a problem attracting players. I know competition is strong but to see Craig Gordon not even coming to hear what MON had to say was a bit hard to take (whether I wanted us to sign him or not).

13 - What is your opinion of Randy Lerner and the new board?

Great, I love all the off field work; the Holte Hotel, the Acorns partnership, the training ground etc. When we start to sign players to move us into the top four 'Great' can become 'Perfect'.

14 - Where do you sit at Villa and are you a season ticket holder?

I was a season ticket holder in the Trinity Road stand towards the Holte End, level with the edge of the penalty area - now I live in Canada so every Saturday I watch live via some dodgy website or other, or on TV if I'm lucky!

15 - And finally (stolen without shame from Vital Arsenal!) if you could invite 4 people connected to Villa, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be? And you can add one bit of top totty as well to make the party go with a 'bang' ;o)

Paul McGrath, Dennis Mortimer, Gordon Cowans and Brian Little. Totty - I doubt I can link her to the Villa, but this week I would bring Megan Fox (although I could probably be her father).

With thanks to ziggy8080 and especially for his confession that he could be Megan Fox's father!

Star Soccer on a Sunday afternoon. Yes, that took me back. Relegation in '87, a dark time indeed. Nigel Callaghan as worst player? You cant argue with that. Good responses ziggy8080.
