Vital Villan Interviews: AllanW

Vital Villan Interviews: AllanW
AllanW

1 - How long have you been a Villa fan and how did you first get the Claret & Blue faith?

My dad is a villa fan and I never considered anything else. He took me to Villa Park when I was eight years old and I`ve never looked back.

2 - What was your first game?

Don`t know which game but the 1968/69 season. We went to a few that year then regularly after that. Watched Santos at VP and had a good evening discussing it in a hotel with Bruce Rioch years later when he was Bolton Manager and we were in the same hotel.

3 - What is your most memorable moment as a Villa fan?

Jumping around, shouting and screaming, surrounded by Leeds, Sperms and Manure fans in the common room of my university hall of residence (where the TV was) as we won the European Cup.

4 - And the worst moment?

Any moment of the last five years before Doug was ousted.

5 - Who are your favourite current Villa players?

Laursen and Young

6 - Which former player/s are your ultimate heroes?

Dennis Mortimer, no doubt. Yet I still have a soft spot for great servants of the club like Charlie Aitken and Andy Lochhead.

7 - Which player do you think was the worst to ever put on the team colours?

So many to choose from but I have to go with the Djemba brothers.

8 - What is the best goal you have seen Villa score and which is your favourite game?

Tony Morley`s goal of the season. Favourite game was the 1996 cup final beating Manure. Although a close second (even though I wasn`t born I`ve heard and read so much would about it over the years) would be the previous FA cup final when we duffed Manure after Munich; they still hurt about that one J. Little anecdote; on the morning of the FA Cup final my dad took my mom into town to buy an engagement ring. After half an hour he said; "Yow`d better get a bloody move on Oy`m going to the pub in ten minutes to listen to the Cup Final." LOL.

9 - Best away ground visited?

Hillsborough in the old days. Natural amphitheatre and great setting and atmosphere.

10 - Who would you like to see Villa sign this summer?

Sidwell. Milner. Any decent RB. Any decent GK. Any decent CB.

11 - What are your predictions for us this season in the:
a) League
Fourth
b) Europe Last 8 UEFA Cup.
c) Carling Cup Don`t care.
d) Fa Cup Don`t care.

12 - What is your opinion of Martin O'Neill?

Terrific man-manager and decent human being. He needs support on the transfer-dealing activity though.

13 - What is your opinion of Randy Lerner and the new board?

Very professional. Never forget they are businessmen but they seem to appreciate the ethos and culture they have bought and have definitely added to it well. Surprised and pleased and proud of them lately.

14 - Where do you sit at Villa and are you a season ticket holder?

Not a season ticket holder at the moment as I live near Manchester but I get down for games at VP and see quite a few away games when the team play in the North-west.

15 - And finally (stolen without shame from Vital Arsenal!) if you could invite 4 people connected to Villa, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be? And you can add one bit of top totty as well to make the party go with a 'bang' ;o)

William McGregor, Ron Saunders, Randy Lerner, Prince William and my wife

With thanks to AllanW
