Vital Villan Interviews: Crosswesleyanchapel
Crosswesleyanchapel takes the Vital Villan interview!

1 - How long have you been a Villa fan and how did you first get the Claret & Blue faith?

I have been a Villa fan since about 1987. I was lucky to catch a Villa game on TV and once I'd seen Tony Daley that was enough for me ! I was a winger at school and loving running past defenders just like he did with ease

2 - What was your first game?

My first game was against Millwall in either 88 or 89

3 - What is your most memorable moment as a Villa fan?

The most memorable moment as a Villa fan would have to be my first final in 94 against Man Ure. I couldnt believe what I was seeing especially as United were, and still are the team to beat. My anxiety levels dropped after our 3rd went in as it was only then that Man Ure couldnt be arsed and conceded we were the better side !

4 - And the worst moment?

The worst is quite simply going to Blues and getting beat. Mellbergs throw etc etc blah blah blah whatever. Stupid and upsetting question Mr Fear ;-) !

5 - Who are your favourite current Villa players?

My current favourite player/players are Shaun Maloney and Ashley Young. I feel Maloney has alot more to offer and I would love to see him play behind the front two. Young is without doubt the best emerging winger in the country right now. Pace, finishing and skill making him so.

6 - Which former player/s are your ultimate heroes?

Former heros have to be Tony Daley and David Platt. Daley being my all time hero and Platt as I was amazed at his workrate and being able to get forward and score quite a few in the process. Shame he left in his prime.

7 - Which player do you think was the worst to ever put on the team colours?

Worst player to ever put on team colours ? Thats a tough one and we have signed some crap. I would have to say in my time J'Lloyd Samuel. I thought he was absolutely horrendous ! No brain. Couldnt defend and would get caught out of position so many times. I put him on ebay you know ! Had some good offers and a phone call from the local rag in Birmingham.

8 - What is the best goal you have seen Villa score and which is your favourite game?

My favourite Villa goal would have to be my hero Mr Daley against West Brom in the FA Cup at the Hawthorns in the 89/90 season. He ran from his own half, beat most of the Albion team before slotting home in the corner. We had loads behind the goal that day and that goal was followed by a massive surge forward on the terrace. Look on your old season reviews if youve got them, its worth it ! Dalians against Wimbledon comes a close 2nd.

9 - Best away ground visited?

Best away ground visited would have to be the San Siro in Milan.

10 - Who would you like to see Villa sign this summer?

I would love to see us sign Philipp Lahm this summer. He for me is the best fullback in the world right now. Just wish MON had the guts to sign some big names. He harps on about not being able to sign top quality but theres a saying in life 'if you dont ask you dont get'. Wish he at least tried.

11 - What are your predictions for us this season in the:
a) League
League I believe we will finish 10th or 11th this coming year as we wont sign enough players and the same excuses will rear their ugly heads about the right player not being available.
b) Europe Europe will be another failure as we wont have signed enough players. I REALLY hope I'm proved wrong though.
c) Carling Cup (no answer)
d) Fa Cup FA Cup will be another draw against Man Ure in the 5th round at VP and we will lose AGAIN.

12 - What is your opinion of Martin O'Neill?

My opinions of MON are mixed at present. I don't like his transfer strategy and he seems to have no balls in at least trying to bring a big name in. On the other hand I believe he is an excellent motivator and gets the best out of average players.

13 - What is your opinion of Randy Lerner and the new board?

I like Mr Lerner and think we've landed the best foreign owner in the PL. He seems honest and likes to keep out of the limelight. I think he is up for spending but MON seems extremely fussy on who he buys. The only mistake I believe the club have made again this year is the shirt release dates and that decision to sell from Kitbag.com. MAJOR cock up there my American chums !

14 - Where do you sit at Villa and are you a season ticket holder?

When I come to VP I normally sit in the Holte End lower. I was a season ticket holder but gave it up in the final season under Herbert as I felt we were in decline big time. Now I'm running my own local football team its hard to get up there on Saturdays but hopefully I'll get to as many as I can this year.

15 - And finally (stolen without shame from Vital Arsenal!) if you could invite 4 people connected to Villa, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be? And you can add one bit of top totty as well to make the party go with a 'bang' ;o)

The dinner party would be an interesting one. I would invite Ron Saunders to see if he actually could manage more than a smile, my hero Mr Daley, Tony Barton and Herbert. I could let them argue as to what was going through Dougies mind when he dismantled a winning team that according to Tony Morley could have dominated Engligh football for a very long time. I would then bring in Liz Hurley to separate them. I think shes fit even if you others dont ! She looks dirty and would definately take the lead in the bedroom ;-)
