Vital Villan Interviews: Villan57
Interview with Villan57

1 - How long have you been a Villa fan and how did you first get the Claret & Blue faith?

My Uncle took me to a game in December 1967 for my 10th Birthday, I was hooked!

2 - What was your first game?

It was actually Norwich at VP; I always thought it was one of the Lancashire clubs Burnley, Blackburn or Bolton

3 - What is your most memorable moment as a Villa fan?

Obviously winning the European Cup!

4 - And the worst moment?

Getting relegated to the old 3rd Division. I cried my eyes out!

5 - Who are your favourite current Villa players?

I’m going for one that not many will agree with Craig Gardner 100% Villan! Could be the new Ian Taylor?

6 - Which former player/s are your ultimate heroes?

So many Little, Lochhead, Rioch, Godfrey, Andy Gray, Sir Dennis, Sid, Gary Shaw, the list is endless. I was dying to say Brown, Arce, Hole but it might get edited! Tend not to have heroes now I’m 50!

7 - Which player do you think was the worst to ever put on the team colours?

I have 3, Nigel, Reo and Coker! Overrated all 3 of them!

8 - What is the best goal you have seen Villa score and which is your favourite game?

One that always sticks in my mind was Bruce Ricoh’s against Sunderland at VP. A Brucie special 30 yd “penalty” past the static Jim Montgomery.

The favourite game has to be the legendary 5-1 win over Liverpool the day before my Birthday!

9 - Best away ground visited?

None that compare to Villa Park obviously! Haven’t got a best really but a favourite has to be the Whore Thorns I’ve never seen us lose there!

10 - Who would you like to see Villa sign this summer?

David Bentley, Darren Bent, Sidwell, Arshavin, Boruc, Micah Richards and a right back, 80m should cover that lot ha ha!

11 - What are your predictions for us this season in the:
a) League
6th again!
b) Europe Quarter final
c) Carling Cup Semi final?
d) Fa Cup We’ll lose to Man Utd 3rd round!

12 - What is your opinion of Martin O'Neill?

“The Stubborn one” He’s done well, could have done better could have done worse. I’m sitting on the fence with this one. Is he the new Saunders or just another John Gregory only time will tell?
13 - What is your opinion of Randy Lerner and the new board?

So far we can’t fault him or his board can we?

14 - Where do you sit at Villa and are you a season ticket holder?

Doug Ellis Lower, back row and yes I’m a season ticket holder.

15 - And finally (stolen without shame from Vital Arsenal!) if you could invite 4 people connected to Villa, living or dead, to a dinner party, who would they be? And you can add one bit of top totty as well to make the party go with a 'bang' ;o)

Brian (walks on water) Little, Randy Lerner, Sir Dennis, Martin O’Neill (so I could tell him who to sign) and my Daughter so she could tap Randy for a few quid for her Charity!

With thanks to Villan57

bit harsh. Direct replacement for McCann and I think he's an improvement.

Responses that are a credit to those of us who are 'senior supporters' Villan57. We've been through it all, we're survivors.

Which Norwich game was it '57? Not the 0-1 reversal, when Ken Foggo silenced the promotion celebrations - on day one of the new season!!!!!!!

Glensider , my memeory is not that good but I do remember Ken Foggo. I think we won but all I can remember was looking through those railings, and all those people, well there looked a lot to a 10 year old ! The Holte was probably half empty! Just looked it up we won 4-2 really don't remember the game at all!

No, I see now that you said the game was in December '57, the Norwich disaster that I'm referring to was an opening day reversal in August. My mistake.
