Great Scott

Great Scott
Into each life a little rain must fall
For those who get the England call
For those who must bear their country's burden
A joyous outcome is far from certain

Perfect paragons of the distant past
All felt the critics' unforgiving blast
Each knew that selfsame weary heartache
And bore that agony for their nation's sake

Each soldier who enjoys his big parade
Knows the ultimate price that was paid
Each man who wears his medals on his chest
Knows the many days when he failed the test

And the heroes considered truly great
Have all learned to smile on their anguished fate
Ever since this sad old world began
Heart has been the measure of a man

Remember for the ancient stoic's sake
All events are weighed by what view we take
Forever sad hurt enough to remind
But the wise look e're forward not behind

Success and failure alike do deceive
All a man can do is in himself believe
Many doubters to say what we are not
But to all Villans, you are still great Scott

Ahh, nice. Trouble is, the lad is always always going to be remembered for one mistake

I think fans will soon forget to be fair herringthorpe, surely mostly know he should not have been thrown in at the deep end and should at least have had 3-4 friendly games to get the feel for things first. He also pulled off a blinder of a save in the second half. This will give the bloke character and should make him a better keeper all round. Shame though, James is often remembered for his calamity headlines rather than the fact he was actually a very very good keeper!

It would have helped if terwat Mcwho? played with 2 strikers in a standard 442, after all we were at home, as we all know attack is the best form etc etc.

A few good performances in Englands world cup campaign and all will soon be forgotten. I remember when Becks got sent off against the Argies and thinking he'll never bounce back from that, and he's now a national treasure and will hopefully soon win his 100th cap.

Strange Herringthorpe, but I would argue that people dont just remember Peter Shilton for that mistake against Poland?

If he becomes undisputed enlgand NO.1 for a long period of time then i think his mistake will be forgotten but until then people will always remeber him for that night at wembley.

We put eight past Gordon Banks at Villa Park at Easter once. He recovered.
