Should Villa Enter The Inter Toto Cup?

Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by Col8, should Villa enter the Inter Toto Cup?

Looks like we should with 83% saying yes, good pre-season preparation and a Uefa Cup place to the winners.

17% said no, give the players a rest.

I remember Paul 'magic' Merson saying he enjoyed the Inter-two-bob and thought it gave the team a competitive edge at the start of a season as they are already match fit and competition primed! With the summer spending we should also have a squad large enough to cope with the possible fatigue that sets in mid-way through the season!

Great opportunity to give guys like Gardner, Osbourne, Cahill, Ridgewell and hopefully Bardsley some competitivie games and a taste of european football.

I think you shoul enter, it's the only time your crap club could ever dream of european football. It migth be a nice chaange in cntrast to the relagation battle youl'll be fighting this seson.

Sean84 I take it the 84 stands for how many brain cells you have

And who do you support mighty sean? And would you care to eat your words at the end of next season, or perhaps my foot up your exhaust?

I think we should definitely enter. We can use our younger and home grown lads to enter the early stages to save draining are more senior players later in the season.Taylor,Ridgewell,Cahill,bardsley,ohalloran,osbourne,davis,gardner,jlloyd,moore,gabby..theres your starting 11 and a strong enough side...other reserve players could fill the bench,.We really need those Thursday nights again. They are just magical, all or nothing, still think that game against stromgodset when Darius came on and scored the two goals to win was what the atmosphere is all about.

Sean84. I like it when opposition fans come on and slag of other teams. I love it when that fan cannot spell and shows themselves for the uneducated ignoramus they obviously are.

Sean84 is a Celtric fan. Do you think we have upset the Scots again? Think we just just invade again and shut the fat w*****rs up. We can then have any player we want when we want. Oh - we do that anyway.

Villa should definitely enter the intertoto! There is no world cup or euro championships this summer (except for the under 21's). We could therefore use mostly youngsters in the first round and bring in 1 or 2 of the more experienced players and the under 21's as we hopefully progress. We need to be in Europe and this gives us a good route so why not go for it??!! And the fans will go as I remember a very near full house for the final against Basle, and a cracking atmosphere too! No! Under the old regime I would have offered a totally different opinion, because realistically it was the only way we were ever going to compete in European competition for some considerable time. But now, with the club marching forward at a tremendous rate, I have to say no, definitely not. Give the lads a complete summer break, to enable them to come back fully refreshed and chomping at the bit to get stuck into the 07-08 premiership campaign, when hopefully we'll be very serious challengers for at least a UEFA Cup spot. Entry into the Inter-Toto would be a completely unnecessary distraction.

Yes. There are no summer competitions this year, and so I find the argument of players being tired silly. They are paid a lot of money to be fit and hungry - and the Intertoto is a means to an end and perfect experience for some of the younger players.

What about expanding into the USA market? I like the idea of puting ther youth players thru the inter toto and the senior players can play friendlys in the states. A bit like Arsenal and the carling cup.
myleftfoot
If we pitted our youth players against other teams in the Inter-Toto, I dont think they'd last past the first round. Some strong sides, upcoming teams, now enter this competition. If we did enter it I believe we'd have to go in with our first team squad, or we'd just be defeating the object.
