More Villa Players Required

More Villa Players Required
Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by Liamo1981) how many more players do Villa need to compete for the Champions League.

Sorry Randy, bad news, the spending isn't over yet apparently!

66% said we needed at least 6 in and a good few exits!
14% said 5 more players would do it and another 14% said 4.
2% said just 3 more players.

That left 4% thinking Villa were just two short of the Champions League. Not sure I'm convinced by that optimism!

Good question well asked and the answers will only be seen in players at the end of this season in the summer break. Interoto anyone?

Should also be viewed as a 3 to 5 year project. The next question should be: when we next play in Europe, which of the existing players will still be here?

yes, think there will be a major turnover of players, has to be if we are bringing in expensive signings, wouldn't like to name names though, not in a nasty mood today!

It's a good start. Let' have more of the same in Jan (or earlier if the MBNA card needs a dust off)

We have actually got fewer players now than b4 the transfer window commemced, all be it fewer squad players and the sulk. I want to get excited but realism surely must prevail. I just want this season to end so that MON can get to serious work on the squad without the distractions of World Cups and such. I feel this season was only ever going to be a season of survival and thank goodness we got some points early on.

Keep an eye for players coming from the reserves. Surely they must factor into the grand plan somehow.

Small squad Christo? Where do the Villa fans get this from? We currently have 27 first team players. It's questionable whether all 27 of them are first team standard but we have cover for every position (and more). The squad is actually one of the biggest in the Premiership. MON needs to offload the players which aren't performing and bringing in new talent, not just keep buying players.

Its obvious that we are still way short on quality, but hopefully the signings of Messrs Young and Carew will bridge the gap a little. Hopefully a qualifying spot for the UEFA Cup will be a realistic proposition next season, but as for the Champions League, I feel we are a long way off. Its also of course one thing merely qualifying for these competitions, and another thing doing yourselves justice. As for the Inter-Toto opportunity, I would say no.
