Why Are English Players So Expensive?

Why Are English Players So Expensive?
Vital Villa asked, in a poll suggested by Mackaavfc), what is the reason English players have such over inflated prices?

47% said there weren't that many good ones.

20% said that Chelsea had forced the prices up.

16% said the prices were high because clubs seem willing to pay the fees.

10% said it was because there are so many foreign flops.

3% didn't know (thanks for that!) and 4% said they didn't care, just pay the money!!!

Our latest poll asks who got the better end of the swap deal between Lyon who got Milan Baros and Villa who got John Carew.

Based on needs and style of play, us at this point in time.We need a target man for this league. We have strikers with pace(Luke & Gabby) and there are players like defoe, Keane, yakubu etc..who will score goals but ideally need a strong strike partner.Centre halves in the EPL don't mess about and a big man makes em earn the cash.We become a different prospect with Carew/Gabby.Opposition can't get too high as Carew will win forward balls/flickons and Gabby playing off the shoulder of the last man with grass behind will crucify you. They sit deeper, we have more space and can play our game.Well that's the idea anyway!!

I think Lyon need a player like Baros, and we need a player like Carew, so it was a great deal all round

Most managers would I presume prefer to bring in home grown talent for the obvious reasons, yet when you look around out there, there is relatively few real quality British born players available. We've offered top dollar for Ashley Young, but the guy is an investment. Many respected judges believe him to be the real deal, and the Watford manager has already suggested that if he develops and progresses as he's expected to, then we (or whichever club he joins) will have trouble holding onto him. Good, thats what I want to hear. Thats the type of player I want at Villa Park. We hold onto him by building a powerful Aston Villa team, a team/squad capable of competing and challenging at the very top, a team in which players like Young will flourish and prosper. Have we paid over the odds? Dont you believe it!

As we can field an all English 11 - Taylor, Bardsley, Cahill, Ridgewell, Samuel, Young, Osborne, McCann, Barry, Moore, Agbonlahor. Does that make us one of the richest clubs in the country? If an old clogger like Upson is worth 6 million how much are Ridgewell an Cahill worth. And how much for the Erdington Express if Young is worth 8 million? Barry at 10 million? Once Luke Moore bags a couple of more goals he will be in the 10 million+ bracket. Not to forget that there are major plans to restrict the number of foreign players. This will make the English players value rocket to unbelievable amounts. You will have to pay millions more for anybody English providing thay can kick a ball without falling over.

Good question there voth. Forgetting the fact that he's a bluenose, but if Upson really is worth that amount of money, you have to start worrying about the state of the game.

Considering the English players are considered by the experts as not being so technically gifted, their high fees are certainly surprising.
