How frustrating is Angel?!

How frustrating is Juan Pablo Angel?

I mean, we all know the bloke can play a bit. Its only a couple of seasons ago that he scored 23 league and cup goals and I will never forget that screamer against Chelsea in the League Cup Quarter final.

But since his injury at the beginning of last season he hasn't produced the goods. I have to admit to having a soft-spot for JPA. Without wishing to use a D'Olism, I have always found him to be an honest player. He doesn't strike me as being from the same mould as, say, Milan Baros. He seems to be the type of player who just gets on with it in training and doesn't give the manager or club any headaches.

On the field too, though he has been bloody awful at times this season, at least he seems to be TRYING. Working hard, helping out in defence (although I wish he hadn't against Spurs), and fighting for the ball. But dear oh dear, he just seems to have lost it now.

I don't suppose it will be long now before JPA leaves the club, when he does I will always be wondering about what might have been. He has to be the most frustrating player I have ever seen in a Villa shirt.

In a word, VERY. I still say we don't get the right supply but nevertheless, his goalscoring record is hardly that of a top striker.

He's no good. Just as much a waste of money as Watson, Unsworth, Stone, Collymore, Hadji and Balaban !
crosswesleyanchapel
Unfortunately agreed, potential unrealised, such a waste, he had it, where did it go? seasons of missmanagement perhaps, battered his confidence so much he is a shadow of his former self.
steff_the_villan
Truly frustrating. I think he's going blind, the shots he makes, but he get's an "A" for effort, and for being a swell guy. He's like a chicken, really: expending an infinite amount of energy not accomplishing really much at all.

Frustrating on a stick. He needs the right partner to play off. Him and DV were great togther. A big un up there may help. From what I hear, he leaves his form on the training pitch. Does lack pace though, but gives his all.
tarzan
will MON try Young and Carew up front together??
kentvilla
He is also now clearly overweight
paranoid_ormandroyd
Luke Moore back soon remember - Young on the right and Barry on the left - Carew and Gabby up front
paranoid_ormandroyd
he tries his best but sadly we all wanna break his neck more then we love him
Christo
What about Young on the right flank and Carew and Gabby up front? Young can paly more naturally on the wing than Gabby.
Gazvilla
A for effort all the time and God loves a trier. But when you play a Centreforward to win balls in the air and hold up play...the least you expect is him to get in the bloody box. Why, oh why does he drift deep or wide after he lays off.The problems start right there!
OneloveVilla
Juan Pablo Angel is unfortunately crap, thats the nicest thing i could think to put.
mackaavfc
Very frustrating is the answer. But with Ashley Young whipping the ball in, and big John Carew throwing himself about, I think lilltle Juan Pablo might just get a new lease of VP life!
pongogidman
I hope so pongo. As I said in the article I can't help having a soft spot for the bloke, and I think a lot of other villa fans do too.
jonah
He is a good header of the ball, but his shooting and fitness has been awful recently - and his tendency to be in an offside position for most of the time he is on the pitch is a little frustrating
paranoid_ormandroyd
Id love it to work out for him.But hes had chance after chance.Did just as poorley as Crouch and Vassell but hes the one we kept.
Pking
His days are Numbered, I wonder who we could swop him for? Any one know of a striker who has fallen out with his froggie manager? No not THAT froggie manager another one :-)
col8
Hopefully JPA could still have a part to play at B6. Playing alongside Carew might just give him the new lease of life he desperately needs.

He has been frustraing lately, but then the whole team has. Like thge whole team, he started the season great, but has since deflated. And i also have that soft spot for him, hes done so much in his time here. But i think his time here has come to an end. Maybe its because he cut his hair, having a samson effect on him, making him lose i\his strength and power as a player.
AussieVilla
Did any one notice the closer we got to the window and more everyone realised what positions MoN was looking to strengthen the worse some players played.Angel knew a striker was coming and its like he just gave up.Or is that total rubbish, probably.
Pking
Pking yea totally rubbish, he has been ****** for ages now and I dont think he can turn him-self around, maybe Baros leaving may give him a kick in the arse.
col8
it will be intresting on Wednesday to see who MON will pick and what formation he will play???
kentvilla
Too early I feel to start writing Juan Pablo off. He's a much better player than some give him credit for.
