NO Transfer Panic At Villa

For goodness sake, will everyone please stop panicking? Great info sent to me from TylerVilla shows that the transfer window last season was the same, not much action until after the 17th and most action in the last 8 days.

Jan 2006

Date/Transfers made on that date:

1st, 2nd = 0
3rd = 2
4th = 4
5th = 4
6th = 1
7th, 8th, 9th = 0
10th = 1
11th = 0
12th = 5
13th = 3
14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th = 0
20th = 2
21st, 22nd = 0
23rd = 11
24th = 0
25th = 1
26th = 0
27th = 1
28th, 29th = 0
30th = 5
31st = 13

Total transfers 53

So 34% of the transfers happened in the last two days.
55% in the last eight days and only 38% by the 17th of January last year.

In other words, there is plenty of time. We ALL know that players are required, that isn't just the fans, that is everyone at the club, the manager and the owners. But we should also remember that sometimes it takes one transfer to act as a domino for all the others, if one team get the replacement they want, then maybe we'll get the players we want!

Have faith!

I had another loony tune call me yesterday effing and blinding and asking if I'm happy now Ellis has gone, saying nothing had changed. Well, yes, thanks for asking I am happy and I have faith in the new guys (by the way loony tune, it is Redditch I live in, not Four Oaks anymore ya yellow bellied twerp). If we were in this position next season I might start to worry but not now ffs, they've not even started.

There also seem to be digs about the fact the Holte Hotel is being done up, the fans are being asked about a new crest, etc etc. We spent years moaning about nothing being done, now things are being done we are moaning. What gives? The re-development of Bodymoor and the Holte Hotel aren't at the expense of players and the possible re-branding or any other suggestion being looked at will be done via the Marketing Department, not the coaching staff, two or more things can be done at one time you know?

Right, rant over, lets not worry until the clock strikers twelve on 31st January!

Good artical, Villa have to bring players in, by the last week it may become a buyers market as clubs try to cash in at the last minute.

shows how little some fans now about the club, if they think nothing has changed. i hope you told ol' loony tune where to go. Good things come to those who wait. I look at it like this, we would have nothing to look forward to in transfer windows if herb was still there, except sub-championship panic buys like djemba djemba. At least we are now frustrated that nothing has happened yet because we know we can bring in good players.

i've had all sorts of calls over the last few years hybridvilla, I tend not to bother reacting these days!!! The best one was a death threat, might be the same chap as he is sure I live in Four Oaks, (which I did for 30 years) so I said I'd wait in for him !!! I just don't get the argument that nothing has changed and although we all want to win the league tomorrow, the major changes might take time and the major re-building will be in the summer. Now if we bought no one in Jan and no one in the summer, we'd then have the right to start moaning, but not now. It isn't as if we were going anywhere fast with the last regime is it?

I have been saying ever since the takeover that the biggest problem that we face is the fans. We moan constantly, we slag off our own players, nothing is ever good enough. This would be bad enough but we don't even turn up regularly unless we are playing one of the teams that we are aspiring to challenge. The campaigning against Ellis was understandable but any one whingeing at the moment must be viewed as a fan of the dildo salesmen purely on our sites to stir it up. keep the faith. Show some backbone. Get down the games and do our bit. The players despite the recent run of results are working their socks off. UTV

Not convinced by those stats one bit. 20% in the first six days? It also depends on who was transferred. Which ever way you cut it, we have got to pay top dollar, teams will add on a certain percentage when they know premiership teams are interested. Blues got over six million for both Heskey and Pennant in the summer. Getting 2.5m for Dunn - who's been permanently injured. They want 8m for Upson! That's the market we are in full stop, end of....

Every club wants some big names. But there are 18 clubs in the Premier League who are filling their ground more than we are, so I think we need to get in line. If players choose their potential employers by the quality of the supporters, we are in the brown stuff. Interesting to see how many will turn up on Saturday. If we have 10 -15000 empty seats then how can we expect the big names to come to VP to play in front of all those empty seats?

The money is there( which is a very nice thing to type!), it is all about getting the right players in.MON is doing all he can to get them but it takes a little co-operation from all parts.We as fans can't speed up or change anything we just wish and hope.What we can do is go to the games and help the lads get points on the board.That is our job....Randy has the money, MON sorts out the team,the management/media teams raise the commercial profile and we sing our bloody hearts out.Let's all just do what we can do to help the Villa family..110%..starting on Saturday

VOTH - It is all down to money surely, Chelsea rarely sell their ground out and still attract the top players? For example, i doubt SWP went to Chelsea because of their fans, maybe the £68k per week had something to do with it?
Report Abuse
17/01/2007 14:13:00

How do you attract big names? You might attract them because you can wave a big cheque in their faces, but will that get you a good, dedicated player that will want to play for the Club? You have to build a team, not buy one in 31 days. This will take years to happen and when we do become successful big names will want to come and play for Villa and not just for the money. The first goal is to get players that will put us in a European competition.

I hardly think 25 players moving into prem clubs constitutes us watching all the top clubs being active in the transfer market, especially when you concider that 11 of those are loan signings and 2 are free transfers (note, these figure also include our loan signing af Bardsley). Let's have a reality check please. If the players come, great but if not I'm quite sure it's not for want of tring and things WILL change in the summer. If not then we must be less atrtactive than Wigan as even they can get reasonable players in, in which case I think I'll give up on football and start watching tiddly-winks!!!!!

A good and timely analysis which really is telling us to be sensible and wait for another week or so before shouting our mouths off about something which is completely out of Villa's control. If you want to blast-off about something have a go at the FA by imposing these antiquated restrictive practices which are preventing us and any other progressive club acquiring players whenever we wish to do so, at any time in the year. When is the FA going to move into the 21st century?

voth hasn't been back to tell us 'if the cap fits'. unfortunately though the guy is nearly always spot on with his comments. it doesn't matter who waves their season ticket at him, he does not seem to be having a go at the regular fans, only those that don't turn up. to get 27000 against bolton and then a week later to get 42000 against manu is a disgrace. as a club we are not loaded with money, randy is in this as a business. he is not abramovich and this transfer window has hopefully shown people that we are not going to try and buy success. m'on looks like he will try and do what saunders did which is buy specific players to fill specific roles. villa will not be buying everybody just because they are available.

Agree were are no longer high profile (ellis made sure we have stopped challenging for anything) stumping up the cash for a big name player would show other players our ambition and start the knock on effect hopefully (also with attendances, media interest etc). Thats why I would argue for MON to pay over the odds but only for a player which is proven i.e SWP and not Young as their are other benefits than just the performance from the player.

I make no apologies for supposedly being a 'one trick pony'. It is no good brushing aside the issue that could most determine the future of the club. ie. the fans. The more it is drummed in, the more the point will hit home. By the way tylervilla, as the golf courses are in pretty poor conndition at the moment (understatement) I presume you will be at VP Saturday?

Christo- anyone who thinks this squad, without the addition of at least another 5 top class additions is living in the past. We might have had a chance 15-20 years ago, but the massive changes in all aspects of the game since the early 90’s dictate that unless you have the very best European players you've got no chance whatsoever. So unless Randy Lerner is prepared to “splash-out” and risk £80-£100mill plus the uplift in player wages of an additional £20-£30mill per annum over the next few seasons - forget Europe and just be content with Villa being a solid, hopefully top-half table Premiership Club. As someone has also written, one top quality signing at (ie SWP at £12mill+) will send out the right signals and start the ball rolling. Other quality, experienced players are also needed short term just to bolster up the squad and give MON more options, game by game. But the medium term target just has to be for us to pull in new players in their “prime” that can do the biz at the highest level.

I know it's not the best time to sign players, but MON has been saying for a number of months, that the players need a bit of help. So for some reason I expected all of the signings to be agreed before the window opened and we'd just sit back and watch as 4/5 world class (dreaming a bit) signings were unveilled! Maybe I'm being a bit naive but I don't understand why you would wait until January to sort everything out and start negotiations.

Mon the man - I thought that as well mate. I think the reality is that the players that were approached either didn't want to move or the club wouldn't let them go. Regarding the latter, what does happen is that clubs become prepared to let players go provided they get cover. It becomes like moving house and a chain develops. If a link drops out it falls apart, ala Milner and Viduka not moving to Newcastle. Therefore, you stating MON said the players need a bit of help. We need to stay in the Premeirship (especially with the new deal announced for next season and the extra money comng in). If the players need help you have to do what Portsmouth did last season and Wham are doing now. You buy whats on offer to survive. Stabilise, make yourselves more attractive and buy quality at your leisure. We've missed Boa Morte, Lauren and perhaps one or two others. Can you imagine missing out entirely and leaving the transfer window in a worst position that when it opened!!!!!
