Shaun Wright-Phillips IS For Sale?

Stuart Pearce has said that Manchester City have been priced out of the chance of bringing Shaun Wright Phillips back to Citeh. He confirmed that Chelsea don't want to loan him and have placed a price tag on his head.

Now, unless the little man has blatantly ruled out a move to Villa Park why cant we stump up the cash to get this bloke in? Quality does cost and unfortunately we will have to pay the going rate to bring people in, even more so because of our location and the reluctance of players to move away from London.

Unless they are asking silly money like £15m plus then surely it is worth getting him in at £10m rather than going £8m for Ashley Young. At least SWP has done something in the Premiership albeit only short term, Young still has a lot of convincing to do in my opinion..

Martin O'Neill watched Chelsea-Wycombe last week with Randy Lerner so hopefully they are talking.

I can't understand SWP turning clubs down, does he want to play football at all or does he want to sit on his arse and do bugger all for his money? He lost out on the World Cup because he couldn't get a kick at Chelsea so where will his career go if he stays at the Bridge?

Also, who else is going to come in for him? I can't see Liverpool, Man Utd or Arsenal coming in for him so he will have to accept 2nd rate team to get his career back on track.

Go get him Randy and put some bums on seats with a bit of pace and excitement in the team.

MON keeps saying we need pace and energy - that costs money Martin so start spending!

What are we waiting for? Sign him before Spuds do!!

I think MON is willing and able...but prising SWP away from London is another matter...especially with dad Ian breathing down the poor kid's neck telling him to hang on for the Gooners!
pongogidman
Looking at the way the gooners are playing at the moment haveing SWP looks like a luxury they can afford to do without. Also If they dont sign him they dont have to put up with his Dad barking from the rafters every time Assole*****er drops him from the team.

He needs games and he aint gonna get any at chelski. He wont win the league here but it will do his england chances the world of good. The problem is he would rather sit and get paid 65,000 a week than play every week for less. not that 40 odd grand a week is to shabby!!(thats what im guessing we would offer)
samtozer
For the record, I believe Ian Wright is actually his uncle (SWP's mother's brother or half-brother). He's our for £12mill. plus £40k/ week wages - no problem.

SWP or Young I know who I would want

Without wishing to be pedantic i am pretty sure that SWP is Ian Wright's stepson...and i am also pretty sure he won't end up at Villa Park!

would rather pay over the odds for SWP than Young. But still not convinced about him.no clubs are in desperate need for Young they just dont want each other to beat them to the punch.Forget him let him go down with that smug beleave his own hype up his own arse Aiddy bothhemroid. Then snapp him up for his real value in the summer.honestly dont think he will make an impact in any team.

yea I think Shaun is Ian's Stepson

No doubt MON would prefer SWP AT £12miil but will go for Young at £9mill if Chelsea want much more. Although £6mill + Baros would be a better deal for us plus £3mill for the Polish striker.

We all need to remember just how good SWP was when he was at Man City. Remember that goal he scored against us? Let's pull out all the stops to get him, give him regular first team football and his old confidence will soon come back.

I agree, SWP is the best of the current crop on offer. He would definitely add more quality to the squad. Thanks for the correction regarding his parentage.
villacross
SWP please. Send Hendrie to QPR plus £m for Cooke. Then we have two promising wingers. Let's hope SWP comes because the players would be under order to get the ball to Petrov who would slide it to SWP all the time...WICKED.

Seriously, why would SWP want to go anywhere else? We need a right winger, we are starting a rebuilding process that he could be a part of, we could get hm back in the England side. At Spuds, Lennon would be in his way, at Newcastle they already have Milner, Solano & Dyer that can play there. We have Agbonlahor, Davis or Petrov playing there, all of whom are out of position. If we make the right offer, SWP would be a fool not to come to Aston Villa.
Sheriff Kimbo
Sheriff Kimbo - good analysis, I sincerely hope SWP can be persuaded to see sense and views the situation as you have outlined. I just worry that if Spurs can afford him, he might prefer to join them as a London club and possibly be eligible to play in Europe this season. On the other hand, it is possible that Spurs interest is just to frustrate us completing the deal and/or to push up the price. They already have a squad of 32 players, including 9 midfielders, 7 strikers plus 13 defenders. How many more do they want to finish at best 5th or 6th this season?

F.F.sake SIGN THE MAN! gonna lose another quality player and end up with someone three quarters the price and half the talent!

I re-ran the recording of Villa's game against Watford. Young was very mediocre. In my opinion he is certainly no better than any of our youngsters and certainly would do little to improve the quality of the squad. If Whitts was worth only £300k then realistically Young is worth no more, so let's forget him. SWP must be our target, even at £12mill. If he won't come to VP then Milner at up to £5mill would be the best option, allowing Gabby to move either into the centre or play down the left.

The SWP to Villa saga has all gone VERY quiet this week....not sure if that's a bad sign or a good one.
jonah
Yes, but does he himself really want to leave? Admittedly he hasn't shown his true form at The Bridge, but he is a class player who needs to be performing at the highest level, in Europe etc.
glensider
Must have missed that one, didn't he resign for ManCity?
