'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Numbers Numbers Numbers

We have an effective squad of 20 odd professional, that's only 20 odd players who have some first team experience. Yet because of the failure of the board to secure investment or the exit of the senile twit in charge, we don't have enough funds to bring in a desperately needed centre half, or keep Davis at the club.

Its O'leary's fault of course, he can't motivate, he falls out with all his players and sin of all sins, he upsets some of the fans. Oh he's not an ex Villa player either so that's against him.

Admitedly his communicational abilities have much to be desired, his attempts to lower fans expectations have degenerated into negative downtalking of players and fans rather than the super hype we have come to expect under recent Ellis managers.

I don't think his motives are wrong, Villa are a lower to mid table club, we are managed as such, it is designed by the board that we are, and he as manager is managing the club accordingly.

Even here he is making some mistakes, he should in hindsight, have brought in a centrehalf not another striker, desperate as we were for one. Laursen let us down by his knee collapsing poor chap, and we are lumbered with Ridgewell.

Its just amazing that so many bankrupt clubs, so high in debt, can still bid and buy for the likes of Parker, or desire to get Keane, when we just dismiss them as too high cost of wages. Yet the fans still believe we should be a top 5 club or at least have a team able to compete with those clubs that can buy such quality.

Such ingrained belief, such blind optimism, such inability to see the wood for the trees is why O'leary's attempts at lowering expectations have blown up in his face. The fans want his head, its more accessable than the real culprit and with some tough games ahead and mostly all on TV, they might soon get their short sighted way.
