Moved to Spurs on July 1, 2011 on a free transfer.

Vital Villa roster profiles are kicking off with the clubs starting backstop Brad (Big Brad) Friedel.

Friedel, all time Team USA has this season upped his game following last years somewhat up and down performances on the turf, no doubt thanks to the ever increasing push from young backup netminder Brad Guzan.

Born in Ohio, the very same state that contains the Villa chairman`s other franchise the Cleveland Browns, Friddy B played several sports as a youngster including soccerball, basketball and tennis. Friedel started initially as a striker, before (exactly what I did) realising his future lay within the netminding position.

Work permit troubles shaped the early portions of Friedel`s career, with moves to both Nottingham Forest and Newcastle thwarted by a bizarre immigration system. Following stints at Brondby and Galatasary, the yankee-doodle-dandy-goalie returned to the USA to play for the Columbus Crew in the Major League Soccer er, league. In a bizarre twist given the structure of the MLS, Liverpool came in for Brad in 97 to purchase his contract rather than pay a transfer fee. $1.7million later, Brad arrived in Liverpool (by plane I believe, rather than a ferry cross the…)

A debut was forthcoming shortly after, ironically against Aston Villa (a club theme that will pop up shortly on!) however the American struggled to oust Sander Westerveld of all people.

Friedel was given a life line in the new millennium as former boss at Galatasaray Graeme Souness signed him on a free transfer to join the Blackburn Rovers re-birth that has so far, failed. Friedel quickly became a Blackburn legend, including becoming only the second goalkeeper ever to score a goal from open play in the Premier Division.

Trivia time! Who was the first? Comment below!

It seemed that Friedel was destined to (eventually) retire a Blackburn legend. However in the summer of 2008, with Manchester City sniffing around the Team USA legend, Martin O`Neill went charging in with a whopping £2.5million bid.

Last season, fans regularly criticised Friedel for the goals conceded, however one would suggest that a much-changed defensive back four led to much confusion. He was however a considerable improvement of Scott "Whoops" Carson.

So far this season, the main man has impressed largely, now holds the record for the most consecutive Premier League starts. Friedel, should he continue the fantastic form, may well finish his career as an Aston Villa, rather than Blackburn and Go-Team-USA legend.

It`s currently rumoured by me, that Brad styles his hair on Vital Villa editor Jonathan Fear.

So in honour Brad, you big bald legend.
