Shortshadyuk Player Ratings

Great Result, shame about the penalty but I'd have taken 2 clean sheets against Arsenal and Man Utd back to back had someone offered that.

Star Player

Nigel Reo-Coker for marking Ronaldo out of a game

Player Ratings

Friedel - 7

Did everything he was asked to do, took no chances, handed out the odd blasting when required.

Young - 8

Did amazingly well defensively worked his socks off to get forward and support the wide player

NRC - 8

Did some fantastic work defensively, then gave it away with a poor pass; pity but keeping Ronaldo in his pocket all match was a tribute to his work ethic, did anyone notice he has quite a good throw in in terms of distance and trajectory? we looked like statues when throw ins came in, little to no movement

Davies - 8

He made some essential headers, was usually around the help the right back when required, positionally only caught out once or twice, a solid performance

Laursen - 8

People might say Rooney COULD have scored but it was going away from him and Friedel had that angle covered, everything else he was solid with and won any header coming his way bar one to Vidic that i recall that went miles wide from a set piece

Barry - 8

His work rate was high today, he was also everywhere he needed to be, heading clearances, covering for players, picking out good passes, fantastic to see him back in form, the one thing i didn't like was his diving, he did one or two where he wasn't given the foul and we were caught a little short for a moment

Petrov - 8

Top work rate, good passing, tracked back, got up if he lost the ball and went right back to win it again, great stuff

Sidwell - 7

Just had a solid game, he's impressing me for sure

Milner - 8

Started off poorly not beating his man, his passing was a little hit and miss and his crossing, but he realised he couldn't skin Evra for pace and got the ball away earlier which was good and started hitting good areas with his crossing, good work rate, he didn't look any better on either flank but Ashley looks poorer on the right so I'm not too sure about them interchanging for the sake of it, they should look at Ljungberg and Pires and how they made runs to cross over when the other had the ball, not just swap positions completely

Ash - 8

Attacking wise he wasn't all that today and especially on the right but WOW what a tackle he made in our area on Park Ji sung, he worked his socks off tracking back and we're lucky to have such a hard working wide man!

Gabby - 7

Did well trying to hold it up, he looked for passes too, pity we couldn't get him involved anymore than he was and for Milner's cut back he should have gone towards Milner rather than at the goal from the 6 yard box to re-angle a cut back pass, but he'll learn he's improving ever so much these days

John Carew (on for Sidwell)

Gabby's determination to get around Vidic really was an excellent demonstration. That he only went down when their legs tangled (albeit just inside the penalty area) shows something about the way he plays the game. I don't think it was a penalty, but it was definitely a foul.....by the last man. It is my opinion that he should've walked for that, and to not even give a free-kick is a bit of a joke. Overall though, just delighted with the performance, and in particular with NRC, about whom I had reservations when I saw the line-up.

Agreed Trekker, Luke Young has turned out to be a real quality signing. Prefer him at right full back though, not keen when Mart switches him over to the left flank.

Once again a solid all round team effort, but if I had to select an individual to receive the plaudits, I think I'd plump for Jimmy Milner.
