Lions Tamed By Foxes

Wicked Messenger said, As a big MON supporter I have to say he has to take full responsibility for the result. He praised Mourinho last season for playing his strongest team in this completion yet he couldn't do the same despite having a far inferior squad.

Having said that, before kick off I thought the team would walk it. Little did I know, that was exactly what they tried to do. No scapegoats please - Harewood and Petrov were no worse than many others. Harewood showed the most urgency and at least risked making mistakes by taking on players. He had a go but only succeeded in making me feel how critical Carew's injury could be to the team. I hope I'm proved wrong.

Most passed it sideways and hoped somebody else would try to make something happen. It all smacked a great deal of Man City away in terms of possession / chances ratio.

The pressure's right on again now for Spurs and if they snub out Barry and Young I cannot see where the goal's are coming from. It's depressing and it also vindicates all those on this site who have severely criticised MON's summer spending, or lack of it.

Martin has put himself under a pressure and scrutiny that a decent cup run would have nullified.

Player Ratings

Taylor - 0 -

Awful Kicking, chose the wrong option all the time, Where is Sorenson ??? Taylor didn't have much to do and when he did something it was crap

Barry - 6 -

Tried to come forward as much as possible but he isn't a left back and shouldn't be played there, if O'Neill wasn't comfortable playing O'Halloran then he should have bought a left-back in the summer

Davies - 2 -

Summed it up himself perfectly, toss, I know he is much better then that

Knight - 6 -

Thought he did well to be fair to him, looking like a bit of a bargain

Mellberg -7 -

Tried to come forward as much as possible but again he isn't a right back and his crossing is woeful at times... well all the time

Petrov - 0 -

What's the point of him..... I honestly thought he had gone off at half time for the majority of the half, offers nothing, doesn't look bothered, I would just get rid of him he is just crap.

Reo Coker - 5 -

Thought he did ok, he was better then Sunday anyway, not that that is saying much, Osbourne was in there I guess so that Reo-Coker could show us his apparent attacking threat....I failed to see it

Osbourne -6 -

I like the kid, and he did get quite alot of the ball but he had no runners to aim for and no one getting in space for him so all he could do was pass to Mellberg] or Barry at full back, thus didn't really help us.

Maloney - 7 -

Only one who did well really, I think he deserves a start, one criticism last night is he should have shot more as we were having no luck getting in behind so it needed a spectacular

Gabby - 4 -

Was he playing ??? didn't do much at all.

Harewood - 4 -

Tries hard, isn't very good !! in 5 words that IS Marlon

Young - 4 -

No chance to shine

Moore - 3 -

Didn't touch the ball did he?!!

Manager Rating

O'Neill - 3 - What formation did we start with?? I honestly didn't know it looked like Petrov was upfront!!!

He gambled by replacing 6 players and it well and truly didn't pay off, I reckon if he had started Gardner over Petrov, or O'Halloren at left back with Barry in centre mid, we would have won.

Agree with most of those ratings. Maloney was our best player, I thought Mellberg was truly awful, i know it's not his fault because primarily he's just a stopper but i could cross a ball better than him! He's a footballer who cannot kick a ball! Osbourne did ok but he's nothing more than a crab. Reo Coker was poor, Petrov apart from the odd touch was nowhere. I think playing Barry at left back is a waste these days, he has to play CM, we missed him badly in there last night. Marlon tried hard but he looks like a carthorse to me. Davies looked very shakey hopefully thats just lack of games recently. Taylor should be shipped out immediately. Ashley Young looked lively but we didn't get the ball to him often enough. Leicester were happy to double up on Young so the only option was Olof who gave it straight back to them. In fairness Leicester defended really well but our lack of cutting edge was worrying. I think it showed how much we miss Carew, ok his goal record isn't great but he's a real handful for defenders.

Surely someone should only get a 0 if he doesnt even kick the ball or scores an own goal when he kicks it once. you go on to say Moore didn't kick it and gave him a 3? Whats wrong with you? Did everyone really expect every match to rosey and shiney? thought I was talking to other Villa fans. Lets get on with it, beat Spurs and put ourselves in a top 6 position. I'm sorry but only top 6 does mean we will lose other games.

MON's ineptitude in the transfer window may start coming home to roost sooner than we thought. No recognised full backs available and now having to play our most influential midfielder at left back must have most teams rubbing their hands in anticipation. This is a situation that should not have happened but from the dealings in the summer was going to happen.

Have to say after seeing the goal Taylor could have done alot better.I thought O Halloran should have got a chance at LB.

Lol "no scapegoats please"(Harewood and Petrov were no worse than many others) - then you proceed to give petrov 0, taylor 0 davies 2

"MON's ineptitude in the transfer window may start coming home to roost" - OK who exactly should we have signed? Give me the names and prices. Sniping and moaning is pointless , one of the top 4 (minus Manure) will win this cup!
tarzan
Sniping?? Why are you defending the decision to buy no RB when we don't have RB at the Club or buy a LB to cover the only LB we have at the Club.... ineptitude me thinks.
Hoss The Villain
A quote from MON flollowing last nights result "At left-back we only have young Stephen O'Halloran, who has yet to make his debut". Who's decision was it to have only one recognised LB at the club and O'Halloran?
Hoss The Villain
Get a grip. Supermansfoot is spot on - we're going to lose games - get used to it. Newcastle got beaten by Derby the other week....and now we've lost to Leicester. It's a crappy result yes, but I honestly didn't see us winning this cup anyway, and I don't think it will make one iota of difference to Gareth Barry staying or leaving if we got to the quarters, the semis, or even the final. Let's bounce back again in the league and try to take the 3 points that could potentially take us into the Top4....would you whingers have taken that at the start of the season after 7 games in? Then we'll hopefully win a few more, but hey we might even lose a few games too people....deal with it.
YatesyVillain
Might not be a bad thing. However when other teams have a game in the week and VP is quiet because we cant get a cup run going again, our players will feel (rightly so ) unsucessful. Bad night all round, lets hope they bounce back where it counts, in the prem.
morky13villa
Hopefully MON and us the supporters will see a major reaction to last nights shambles at White Hart Lane on Monday night. Some good might well come out of last nights disaster. Lets face it, thats the only thing we can cling to, and hope for.
glensider
Remember when we lead 4 nil against them and it finished 4-4
Pking
Remember it? i still have nightmares about it!
