Colchester Community Stadium
AVFC continue their pre-season preparations with a trip to Colchester, which I am reliably informed is in Essex. With the 3-0 win over Peterborough already in the bag, Martin O`Neill will once again cast a glance over the young lions as he looks to pick his squad to be leaving on a jet-plane.
Colchester, now just 2 and a half weeks away from their opening fixture against newly relegated Norwich City will be looking to really test themselves against Premier League opposition whilst still giving a few new faces their chance to shine on the Weston Homes Community Stadium pitch.
Playing the U`s.
I`ve got a beer,
Don`t trust my team news,
Colchester United left-back Marc Tierney has been in fine voice as their big pre-season match against the mighty Villa has approached. Tierney, who spoke after scoring a goal against German powerhouses SF Troisdorf said:
"Any team managed by Martin O'Neill will be a difficult team to beat, regardless of whether they field their big hitters or their younger players. They all have a good pedigree,"
"We will be looking for the win, because we want to sort out our home form this season. We need to do that if we want to be up there challenging.
"Although it's a pre-season game, we want to start off on a winning note, to get that habit of winning at home. There's no better feeling."
On the flip flop (sorry chaps and chapesses, this is a shortened preview as quotes are hard to come by!) Villa boss Martian O`Neill has admitted that tonight`s match has come too soon for both senior and the junior internationals as he told avfc.co.uk:
"It's another game for us before we head out to Spain for the Peace Cup. Those senior players who were playing right up until about the June 10 will join us.
"They won't be ready for the game on Tuesday night but I'm hoping that by the time Saturday comes along some of them might be able to play some part in the game."
Colchester are looking to give a number of their new signings a run-out as the clubs` official website have decreed that Lee Beevers, Magnus Okuonghae, and David Fox will all play a part.
Positive news for Villa fans is that new addition number 4 will also play. Former Carlisle United and Crewe Alexandra goalkeeper Ben Williams will make his debut between the pipes. Having seen Ben play regularly at Crewe, and with him lasting just one season at Carlisle, there could be a good chance even Marlon Harewoood grabbing a goal as the previously mentioned netminder is awful!
If he plays like how I remember he plays, there will be a lot of confused faces as Marlon scores his 6th goal of the night from 65 yards and I`d expect Friedel to get on the score sheet.
As previously mentioned, Martin has announced that the senior internationals are unlikely to feature. One who may well buck that trend in my opinion would be Brad Guzan who is perhaps more match fit than the rest, having not played many first team games, but kept match fitness.
I`d expect MON to go with the Bannan/Albrighton/Wiemann combo that worked so well against P`boro once more. With the Peace-Man-Cup (or Pac Man, I forget) coming up, there may well be a temptation to rest the likes of Sidwell, Friedel, Davies etc.
There isn`t one to watch, watch all of our young lions as there are a fair few vying for an impressive future.
Well, I looked for a Colchester-born musician and struggled. It appears that a couple of Blur members lived in the town. Also living there for a brief time was one Jason Kay, and I am personally a fan of Jay Kay`s music (this one also has cars in it gents) so:
Colchester`s claim for fame is that it may well be one of the oldest town in Britain having been the latest recorded Roman settlement.
According to my extensive (Wikipedia) research, Colchester is reputed to be the home of well known nursery rhymes such as "Old King Cole" and "Humpty Heskey," the latter naturally having some severe balance issues.
Colchester is twinned with Imola in Italy, who used to host a Grand Prix on behalf of the San Marino principality. Sadly no longer.
Colchester United were founded in 1937, the same year that Amelia Earhart disappeared, and the year that the Dandy was first published.
Once again, no flipping idea. I would say his name is perhaps R.C. Git
We`re winning again, but with a lower league and perhaps even fresher players coupled with our rest up of some youngsters, I`d be looking at a closer score line. 2-1 is my prediction.
Do do dodo dododoooooo… Do do dodo dododoooooo, we`re all going on a, summer holiday! Off to the Peace Cup with hosts Malaga the first match for the Claret & Blues on Saturday afternoon!
Thanks for reading everybody. I am off to constantly F5 refresh the "Bullring to Bullring" webcam.
