Villa V Bolton Preview

Villa travel to Bolton where they face old boys Gavin McCann and Jlloyd Samuel. Fear does some work on his own site for a change. The sky is blue, whatever next? Find out here!

Vital Quotes:

With a relatively small managerial merry-go-round underway, Martin O'Neill has spoken of the pressure on managers these days to get good results quickly, or face the dishonour of joining David O'Leary on the 'unemployed list.'

'There's not a lot of patience in the game at this level - absolutely not. It's interesting - people talk about how well you play, but what matters is the results.'

'More so than ever before, you can't have a bad run and that's because of the money in the game. The finances of the football club are paramount - look at it the other way, staying in the league is of paramount importance, especially with the new TV deal. No-one wants to drop out of it.'

With the thought of facing former Villa midfielder Gavin McCann, Craig Gardner is relishing the test of facing someone so strong, so powerful, so...honest: 'It will be a good game. Gav's a tough tackler and I'm sure he'll want to do well. But we're full of confidence at home or away. We need to get the first away win to really get things going. Hopefully we'll get that on Sunday Gardner told avfc.co.uk.

'Gav's a nice bloke and if you ever wanted any advice you could go and talk to him. He's a decent player as well. He likes a tackle and he can use the ball well.'
***

Honest Gav hasn't said anything yet, it's been up to Kevin Davies to lead the 'give our new manager time' speeches, as Bolton fans look set to perhaps even protest at the signing of the former West Brom boss Gary Megson: 'There is a lot going on with the fans, but we are bottom of the league, they have got to get behind the team.

'They need to judge the manager on his results in the months to come.

'It is not a nice situation to be in, but we need them, especially at home.'

Bolton Wanderers Team News:

Bolton seem to be keeping their cards close to their chest regarding team selection this week. Danger-man Nicholas Anelka, having returned for mid-week European action will likely line-up along side Kevin Davies.

They seem to favour a 4-3-3 system these days, choosing to actually try to play football, so expect to see El Hadji Diouf, the man who does a cracking impression of a camel trot onto the pitch at some point.

Player to watch: Gavin McCann

Gavin McCann, he's an honest lad, rarely passes forwards, often sideways. A nice bloke, someone who would probably look after puppies, or baby bunny rabbits or something.

Go get him Gardner!

A Bit About Jlloyd Samuel
Sadly it appears Jlloyd won't be available to face his old side.

We all had to be careful ripping the proverbial out of J-lo whilst he was at Villa, after all we should never boo those in claret and blue.

Sadly for Jlloyd now, he's left Villa, and therefore I can laugh like hell at him.

For a player with so much promise, he went downhill quicker than your average Jamaican bobsleigh team, choosing to live a life of luxury, laziness and ludicrous hairstyles.

Aston Villa Team News:

Nigel Reo-Coker and Scott Carson both miss this game through suspension following their dismissals against Manchester United. Stuart Taylor will more than likely deputise despite Thomas Sorensen's clean sheet, against teenagers.

With a bit of luck Craig Gardner will come into central midfield for Nige, though there’s always a risk that Stiliyan Petrov may be deployed at some point.

Sunday will probably come too soon for John Carew, who's been out since the victory against Everton.

Player to watch: Barry + Other Centre Mid

We know that Gavin McCann, when on true form could be a complete pain in the rear end for any midfield we faced.

Our central midfield combo will need to overcome him if we are to have much success this week.

300 Up & Jlloyd Facts

Gareth Barry will make his 300th Premier League appearance this weekend. Rumours are abound that he could be, at 26 the youngest player to have done so.

Jlloyd Samuel has his own 'Icons' website where he talks about the things that affect his life.

On this site Jlloyd believes that Bolton can 'turn on the Brazilian-type style as well when we need to!'

It does appear more than likely that at the time, Samuel was probably watching Brazil, either that or delusion has come quickly for the Bolton defender.

Samuel was born in Trinidad & Tobago. Natives of the Caribbean island will be proud to hear that he did attempt to gain permission to play in the 2006 World Cup for the country. This was definitely not linked to the fact that he has been ignored by England, honest.

Ref Watch:

The ref for the match is none other than Martin Atkinson. Mr Atkinson has actually sent off a Chelsea player this season, blimey! He also officiated our 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City. I was at that game; he wasn't (much like the Villa team) any good on the day.

Match Prediction:

We're going to coast this one 3-1. Goalscorers will be Agbonlahor, Laursen and Harewood (seriously!)

Next Up:

Derby at home on the 3rd of November.

Brave 3-1 prediction there, wish I was half as confident. We cant score and we're shaky at the back, so that doesn't bode to well for our chances in my estimation. Sad thing is, we should be journeying to places like The Reebok and picking up all three points, no questions asked. Surely Megson's charges aren't going to turn us over for the second time this season? Oh the humiliation.
glensider
glensider.. we'll stuff them. so long as zat knight doesn't fall asleep again. I wonder if he'll start on sunday? i hope not. He needs to be benched for a couple of games i think.
The Usual Suspect
I'm with glensider on this, it's not as clear cut as 3-1, for a start we seldom score 3 goals in a game, and definately not away from home either. I can see Bolton being up for this game with Megson in charge and them either doing a smash and grab and nicking it, or it being a drab 1-1 draw.
Thegreatdando
"for a start we seldom score 3 goals in a game" -- apart from the 4 we scored at Tottenham, that is. Although we did manage to ship 4 at the same time lol!
